    This is super handy! So much better than using something like Bing Translate because it puts the word in context, gives multiple examples, and I can slow it down. Thank you for sharing this fantastic tool!

    Maria, I really like your videos. Just out of curiosity, do you have a Serbian accent in Portuguese? I obviously don't hear any, but I don't have that much experience. I imagine, it is next to impossible to get rid of your native accent as an adult, but I've also met people who managed to do it.

    • @portuguesewithmaria
      @portuguesewithmaria  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess every now and then you can feel a trace of it, but it's a global lie that adults cannot become native likes. It's a very cheap theory sold by tons of language schools, unfortunately, so that they start fulling parents and taking their money so you can see babies at schools, not even toddlers.
      My Serbian accent is noticeable in English because of its rhythm and wounds that don't exist in my mother tongue.
      I resonated with Portuguese, with the European accent, to be precise because everything about it reminded me about my native language. On the hand, I can't even imagine speaking in Brazilian accent.

    • @mariamikolchak3623
      @mariamikolchak3623 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      HI Maria, I've been teaching languages for over 20 years and have observed a lot of people. Yes, there are some who can attain native accent as adults, but they are few. Most keep their accent, if they started after 16-20 years of age, even living in the country where the language is spoken. Depends on the language too, of course. "Native like" -- yes, possible. @@portuguesewithmaria

    • @portuguesewithmaria
      @portuguesewithmaria  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mariamikolchak3623 There's also another question- do they even care about the accent? Many people I've worked with do not associate those two things- having the native accent with being fluent. I think that acquiring the native accent to many people sounds like something extra that's not needed and I totally understand why they think that way. I've never heard of accent/pronunciation classes in Serbia for any foreign language, the formal education gives literally NO importance to it. Actually, I am also proud of those learners who reach very high levels C1, for example but feel confident enough to speak foreign languages with the native accent. I don't see anything bad in it. I also see it as a psychological thing. I went through it as well.
