Thank you for freely sharing your knowledge and techniques - as a newer professional (graduated 12/2020 and missed out on a lot of hands on due to Covid - classes were switched to zoom 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️) I have been relying on lots of tutorials to get my techniques up to par... I am forever grateful!!!!!! 💕💕💕
You know, you approach this very scientifically, which I appreciate as a logical person. A lot of people look at hairnstyling as an artistic profession - which it is - but, there a lot of knowledge and logic that goes into it as well. You show and explain this balance wonderfully.
Thank you! I've watched many tutorials & have done lots of placements on different people. I did your placement & section today and it turned out perfect! She even gave me a huge hug & said it's her favorite highlights she's ever had. Thank you so much!
I really like your video. I am returning to cosmetology after a long time. I was in the Navy when my license expired. I am scheduled for my state board practical April 20, 2023. Woo-hoo. Back in my day we used those awful caps with a tiny crochet hook. I originally graduated beauty school in 1989. It's been a while. It's good to see how techniques have changed. Amazingly many of the tasks stayed the same. You should consider being an instructor. You have a talent to not only hold interest in your video, but you gave clearcand easy to follow directions. And on top of all of that your client's hair is beautiful.
that’s amazing you’re getting your license again 💗 my goal is to teach more, I am launching online courses in a few days on my site wholyhair.com if you’re interested! In person classes will be coming soon as well ☺️
I've been watching so many TH-cam videos on placement and this is definitely the best video I have watched! You explained everything so well Thank You so much♡
I absolutely love your attention to detail. Wonderful tutorial. I have stopped hairdressing due to health but I had my hair done 2 days ago, hadn't had a colour done in 1 year due to having my baby, reason for being so excited too and I cried various times throughout the day and the next because it turned out terrible that being the foils and cut. I really thought I was losing my common knowledge due to many years of zero practice and having to tell my hairdresser what to do made me feel so uncomfortable and of course never listened to me anyway and tried to back herself up. But her foils were so messy, she never used a comb to section and the sections were very random. Then when it came to putting the foil on and closing them she did so by patting the middle part down roughly with her thumbs and closed the package on both sides with her hands. They were the most messy wrinkly foils I'd ever seen. No heat was applied after for uniform colour development. Fortunately she did wash the back and waited another 10 for the front but weren't enough time at all especially with no heat applied. I'm a natural ash blonde. It had taken her an hr to complete a half head of foils not to mention the pain due to over tension on every section. Only 3 foils applied to sides also... Then the toner was applied (which she weren't gonna put on but I insisted and was double the price initially quoted) to towel 'patted' hair (barely taken wetness out of hair) and left on for 8mins only that including application time. Then washed very quickly with no attention given and then a standard blow-dry was extremely painful and scolding. The layer cut was roughly done dry in order to remove length first but was not corrected when colour was completed and wet to make sure all sections were done correctly. Been as I am a hairdresser myself I knew the sections were roughly chopped and not cut into to make it soft. I insisted in having it cut wet but she was sure it was fine and refused 3 times. I couldn't wait to get out of there 😔. So disappointing and complex hitting when you were looking for a lift after waiting so long to do my hair after a trumatic birth and long recovery. Just so sad. I came on here to see how it was supposed to be done even though I do know as I've been to other hairdressers and been taught in college and within a salon myself so I really appreciated your tutorial thanks! X
Just wanted to share ... I used this placement today when I did a blue fashion colour on the ends of a girls hair. The whole process was made effortless with this layout and sectioning so thanks gf!!!
The occipital bone Is half way down from where you parted the hair. It’s that little curve around ear level.By the time your done yore 15 vol bleach mix, the 30 vol bleach mix has lost its power and has died down, I suggest you mix as you go along. If you mix your bleach every 20 min, you’ll get max lift and fresh powerful bleach that’s much more efficient . Continue educating hairdressers you’re doing a great job!
Thank you for these simplified highlighting technique videos! I sometimes feel intimidated by the sectioning for highlights but now I feel like I can be confident and create beautiful hair! ❤️

love it. I have a question, what's the best thing to do if a client has white hair on hairlines and I'm doing highlights with bleach? Should I do the base color first then do highlights with bleach? I've done lowlights, highlights at the same time but it didn't cover the white hair.
Thank you so much! I felt embarrassed searching for techniques, but now I don’t. Lol! I have problems with bleeders and I think i folded the foils 2x instead of 1x. Also the board was genius!!!
it also depends on the clients hair type and how heavy the foils are, and their hair! Bleeds can happen to anyone, it still happens to me every once in a while! You'll learn little tricks to avoid them as you keep practicing!
Thank you so much!! Starting cosmetology school in a month and have been cramming info to be as ready as possible using your videos! You are so talented!

You can also watch hair by Kristi Jennings. She does like really long foiling videos and shows some AMZING techniques. I’ve learned sooo many new things from her. She should be required education in cosmo school. She takes care of the very fine details like the tiny baby hairs around the hair line etc because clients notice black holes like that she’s great and also shows how she styles after which are these amazing curls that show the depth and dimensions in the hair. Amazing work! Love shouting out other stylists. This stylist also does good work!
Love the video and your technique. Please don’t skip the foil pull, all those wonderful, fresh highlights right out of the foil.. mmm! That’s the best part.
One tip I would interject with for people just learning, and watching this video for guidance: the SECOND you mix your bleach with the developer the timer starts. So if you are using two bowls, there is no reason to mix the second bowl until you get there. ( so maybe have the unmixed, pre-measured developer and bleach of choice *ready* to mix, but on standby.) That is just my tip for newbies who are typically going to be struggling with the timing (because whether it’s on hair or not, bleach stops processing after a very specific time once activated)
Love the techniques. I just can’t pre mix my sides and front (the 30 vol) before I’m ready to use it. Like from the beginning. Doesn’t the lightener loose it’s lifting strength if it sits for too long?
sometimes I end up having to mix a little more, but I just like to save time by doing it at the beginning. I haven’t had any issues with it loosing strength
Do you do vertical hairline on the back? I feel like it’s too stripey unless you do both sides vertically and the one at the base horizontal 🤷♀️ I’m not that far into the video so was surprised to see you didn’t do that with this client. When they pull their hair up it makes SUCH A DIFFERENCE
Beautiful! I'm licensed but haven't worked in a salon yet.... I'm about to get myself back into working a bit.... How would you go about doing 2 colors with this technique? For example if the client wanted blond highlights but wanted red low lights in all the hair that wasn't highlighted. Thanks for such a great informative video.
I dont recommend red with blonde cause it can turn the blonde pink when they wash their hair, unless they always wash in super cold water! but I have some highlight and lowlighting techniques on my channel! ill link one

yes, this is true! I foil really quickly so I find it easier to mix ahead💗

Me too! So flattering on her
Rinsing with water then shampoo is very important because the residues of bleach eat (oxidize) the color molecules by time

How long do you normally take to finish full head highlights ? How many foil do you use?
What’s the reasoning with the board i feel like it waist time whats your thoughts
it’s personal preference, I didn’t used to use a board but found that it works great on the back and sides of the head to get as close as I can to the scalp and have a surface to paint on!
Definitely take your advise and apply it on my next client . Gracias.

Hello. Can I ask what is the specific name of that board your using? That black one. 🙏
I agree…best explained….and easiest. Thankyou!
What size foil/brand did you use in video? And can you do a video showing how you get the foil so close and neat to lay in a separate video. Thank you
Absolutely Beautiful
Why do you prefer doing horizontal sections in the sides versus diagonal back
it just depends on the client!
Love this !’
I'm a bit confused as to why you didn't shampoo out the and lightener Before applying the toner? I've never seen that done before.
I definitely rinsed out the lightener before applying the toner
is it better to not bend the foil with ling hair or just fold it? should i use one or 2 foils? for each strand
Beautiful job!
I just got foil highlights done from a salon and now my hairs literal rainbow
I love this way of foiling ever since I stumbled upon this video but something I've noticed is that there are harsh lines on the top section when I do it from the back. My clients don't like the root smudge so how do I avoid getting the harsh lines?
take smaller sections on the top, like babylight pieces. it depends on the color you’re starting with and texture of their hair as to how thick or thin to do the sectioning, every client will be a little different
