I think I see Page giving Eddie a cigarette in this video. Jimmy always praised Edward Van Halen, saying that it was very important that new guitar players move the music forward, which Ed certainly did in the late 70's.. One of Jimmy's best qualities is that unlike so many of his contemporaries, he usually only has good things to say about new artists who play rock n' roll music.

I always hated that argument, saying he's 'sloppy" he plays the BLUES. The music is supposed to be "sloppy". He can shred perfectly when needed. It just didnt fit in the blues-based Zeppelin music.

Watch EVH when he did his interview with the Smithsonian few years back. He’d been sober for awhile by then. He talks about him and Alex going to the Forum when they were teenagers to see Led Zeppelin and that he was in awe of jimmy Page. It’s a really good interview. (Having said that, I’m sure EVH probably did say those mean things and there’s no excuse for it. He was a complete mess for years due to drugs.)
Some are better technically etc but for my money jimmy page and Eddie van halen were the best composers on the instrument. Each wrote tons of riffs and wrote songs that still sound great. They both used the instrument to construct songs around it rather than just being known solely as a virtuoso.
unfortunately all of that footage is lost somewhere in a where house... there is some news coverage of it out there but the actual camera masters of the raw footage was in once place for a bunch of years and then it was moved and it's no where to be found... same thing happened with the Van Halen induction raw footage... I keep looking on the internet to see of someone had taken it but I haven't seen any clips of it so I don't think it was stolen just nowhere to be found and that is a shame... That was an awesome night and the footage was awesome.. there are pictures I will try and maybe load up some of those..

I even made it to the news coverage on account of the news reporter asking me what I thought it meant to the industry, although at the time I didn't know it until Weiderman showed me the clip a few years later. Great memories of the GC days!
I Was so glad to see this footage my best friend Rick he worked at guitar center at the time told me of this story. He’s but a few minutes in the video actually wearing a tuxedo putting hand sanitizer on Jimmys hands just before he puts his hands on the plaque. Amazing I found this video. Brings tears there in Heaven together now.

Actually the lotion was for the black dye in the concrete as to not stain the hands which is harder to clean off after putting their hands in... :)
dual purpose. lubricated hands give a much cleaner imprint, and yes those dyes do stain, worked with them too.
