What really gets me about this scene is not the bit where he killed his father, but rather before that as we see how panicked he is in the cockpit. Yes he is a top duelist, but this is the first time he has battled with his life on the line. This is not some friendly competition, this is war, and Guel now has to get his first true taste of it. It is just such a great scene.
Maybe I'm reading into it too hard but I like how Guel loses his MSs head before killing his father. If this was duel he would've lost, but it's not and he came out on top at the end. It feels like its emblematic of Guel finally getting past his issues with losing duels. Only to murder his father right after...

@@youngdanielsun3707 No I think you're right on the money. Him losing his MS's head was 100% in there by story design and I appreciate they did it that way. It shows how nonsensical the duel rules with it's libra scale, oaths, and wagers are. After all, "only the results matter." And Guel took a one way trip on the Simba express in growing up.

If you think of it, despite Vim's abusive attitude, it was really well intentioned. Vim is right that Guel should not stick with his naive ways because he knew how horrifcally cruel the politics of the Beneritt Group and the outside world.
come s2 episode 19-20 looked what happened.
I think part of him was glad it was his son who bested him after all the losses he had in the duels.

I can’t imagine his final thoughts when Vim ended up being impaled by his son by accident without even realizing that it was his son in that mobile suit that he was battling against.
He was probably proud tbh. His dad was an ace pilot who just got absolutely gigabrained in his specialty suit that lost to his company's previous grunt suit model.
He probably also preferred this outcome to the alternative...

honestly that Ugly stammering disbelief hits me harder than the scream afterward. you can taste every drop of angst in real time. This is not what i wanted when i said i wanted Guel to get a win on his dad.
As strange as this may seem, Guel is my favorite character in WfM. He began the series with everything: reputation, spouse, connections, power, etc. And then he just kept taking loss after loss after loss. I think it is no exaggeration to say that with the death of his father, he has now hit rock bottom.
During his fall, we saw he was more than some smug bully who used force to get his way. He has a warrior's pride that he holds close. He's a young man who craves something genuine, a real bond with someone he respects (Suletta/his father). He has aspirations and dreams of his own. And now these traits are going to be tested now that he is at his lowest. The good thing about being at rock bottom, after all, is that there's no other way to go but up. And I'm eager to see how Guel Jeturk will climb back up.

First time of his appearance, we all hate him for being a jerk.
After we knowing him more and more, this guy deserve love.
And therapy. Lots of therapy.
Never forget Guel is legit an ace, but he among everyone else never fought a gundam before. Imagine being pretty good at trigonometry and the teacher switches the test with calculus problems. You're gonna take that L despite trying your best but teacher says "LOL you fucking stupid"
His losses are always him being in disadvantage or handicap.
If Schwarzette was really his, we gonna see Space Guts II wrecking the shit with that BFS.
Even in this fight he's still piloting a much older, outdated suit.
He's not an ace. He's a student in a small pond and he was made to go into the real world against adults. He's a high school star quarterback, and THAT IS VASTLY inferior to someone in the NFL.

Or that his second fight versus Suletta was the most impressive performance for one of her opponents imo. Sure Suletta and Aerial got better since but he turned off his AI and managed to make her a lil nervous.

This is the saddest "Are ya winning son?" moment in anime.
For a non-WfM Newtype, Guel's agility is amazing considering that he is able to dodge vulcan shots so cleanly while flying towards the enemy suit. He even deflected it with his blade, too
Mans still has holder-level experience after all.
I mean until Suletta and the walking sentient war crime that is Aerial pops up in the school, he is the top. Even the vow scene. The two times he duel qith suletta he always the one who said "nor by the skill of the pilot, alone" as the anime trying to imply that Guel has a better pilot skill in the match up
If there anyone gonna kill Shadiqq, i hope it's Guel role.

This might be the best outcome for the company. His father was working along Shadiq to kill Denning, the suits used were of his company, the Jetruk Fleet that was supposed to be guarding the station just stepped asides. The Benedict Front will have a field day against the company. The fact that Guel/Bob killed his dad and wasn't part of the company might be enough for the Group not to tear down the entire company if Guel represents them, his brother might hate him so that may turn into a complicated situation but Shadiq is on everyone crosshair now specially since they found his mole.
It just sucks to be guel huh
He's gone from an ivory tower to the pits of hell and only got his dad's love in his final moments before dying by his hand

Dude my heart aches for Guel (Bob). Why they gotta do my boy like this? Non stop L’s. Let my boy win man. Undisputed best pilot in the series without a high performance suit.
To be fair this match is awesome, its like a newbie student undergrad pilot piloting a Zaku I that is wrecked in battle but still won against a veteran pilot riding on a Zaku III kai Custom.
Guel if you ask me is the best normal pilot on that show, just think if he gets Schwarzette.
Since his development is like guts I would not be suprised if Schwarzette will also have a Berserk Mode similar to the berserk armor.
They teased a jeturk made gundam in a gunpla promo and most people theorize guel will pilot it

It’s interesting how in this show we see the relationships between the parents and their children. The parents view their children as nothing but extension of themselves that should be obedient to their every word even if it’s against that their kids want for themselves. Guel’s father basically disowned him for going against his orders and seeing him as nothing more than a disappointment, in this scene for Guel to survive this battle he unknowingly had to kill his own father, we’ll see what happens to him in season 2.

To be fair the difference here is Guel didn't do it on purpose. He was in a real combat situation and didn't want to die, so desperation drove him to do so... worse still being he didn't know his dad piloted the MS he was fighting.
Andrei however saw his dad and was like "I'm going to kill him because he let my mother die."

Guel meanwhile is piloting a wrecked zaku one but still able to kill his dad who is piloting an equivalent of a Zaku III Custom despite having a nervous breakdown and hystreical.

No, Vim did booted him. He wanted to pull Guel out of the school so that he could work at a desk job somewhere. Not exactly what Guel would’ve wanted, but it would still be a pretty cushy job. He didn’t expect Guel to just straight up runaway and went missing.
Guel was only kicked out of school, not getting disowned, so when Guel disappeared, it’s safe to say that Vim is still a good enough parent to worry for his son

Yeah season 2 is def a lot better, season 1 was a lot of buildup, think of it like the first bit of MSG 0079
