- Lakes in a Day is a 50(ish) mile north to south traverse of the Lake District run by Durty Events. It starts from the village of Caldbeck and finishes in the village of Cartmel. There’s plenty of ascent to be had with close to 4000m (13000ft).
The route takes you over Blencathra with a descent down Halls Fell Ridge, over the stunning Helvellyn Ridge and by the western shoreline of Lake Windermere.

It’s a great route that shows a decent amount of the Lake District. Yeah, not long to go now and the memories from last year are flooding back. It’s such a difficult race and last year we were certainly in a better position. Since Lakeland, in fact, earlier than that - probably since Chester 100 and Kong I’ve been suffering with niggles which won’t go away! Not giving in though and It’ll get our best efforts but I can’t see us matching last year. Looking forward to a chat before we get off and you disappear into the distance! Brilliant running from you this year 👍
@@TrailRunningCouple Yes I'll try and find you before. I'm actually getting the coach early doors, hoping for an improvement on my 2019 effort but, 3 weeks after Cotswold Way 100, we'll see!

Wow! The best on-the-go running film I've seen, with just the right amount of (very useful) commentary. I did the event and can appreciate the extra energy it must take to film it. Well done!
Thank you, such nice comments. When we started uploading videos we chose not to speak at all, partly not wanting to sound like an idiot talking to a camera and feeling the scenery does all the talking. Now we try and use commentary to update our location, destinations and feelings, especially on tough events like this one. Great day though wasn’t it? We’re still smiling when thinking back!
I think you're right about the scenery doing the talking, like just showing the rainbow - what can anyone possibly add to that? But what you did say I thought complemented what was going on. I always find the section from Ambleside the toughest and I hope one day to be able to see the lake in daylight as you did. Might take me a few more days to be smiling though!

Well done! Having run this race twice (first in 2017 and then again in 2019), I'm returning again this year to film it. A great account of the day, effort and conditions of the route and race. Still one of the much tougher races I've done (although I have LL100 this summer). That guy on the summit of Helvellyn! 😂. What a rainbow! Did you change any shoes or clothing in Ambleside? 2nd half of the race is very different.

I’ll definitely be looking forward to your account of the race, your videos are always a great watch. No changes at all for either clothing or shoes. We never do.

Very difficult route but one of those where you want minimal time in the dark so it’s a case of keep plodding on! Brilliant day and route though 👍

Thank you, it seems the Lake District was inundated with rain as usual so Windermere itself, amongst other places was at quite a high level. Makes it all the more fun though. We absolutely loved the rainbow 🌈 😊

Thanks Tito, definitely a tale of two halves. As you say, lots of ascent in the first but some technical sections in the second with some surprising little sting in the tails waiting for us!!

No one said about wet feed on the course. My feet are still numb from the Lakeland. lol. Would have been nice for you if the weather wasn't as dull but it could have been an awful lot worse with no visibility. Well done though. Some areas of the race looted a bit nervous for me should i say.
Wet feet? It’s getting that time of year in the Lakes so it’s something we’ll get used to again. Many change socks but to be fair it doesn’t bother us too much though not pleasant!
Weather wise, it was as good as we could have expected for October, especially seeing the amount of rain we’ve had (and obviously the Lakes considering the high levels of water in Windermere).
Halls Fell Ridge? Love the scrambles and technical aspects of it though more potential for things to go wrong.
We’re booked on the Cheviot Goat Ultra in December so I think that’s going to be a far greater challenge with the weather then! 🥶 Thanks 😊

Hi and thank you! We navigated with a GPX file on our watch which made it pretty easy though we did know quite a bit of the route. It’s a great race and would highly recommend it 👍

Any tips for preventing trench foot in these wet conditions? I’m normally ok but accepting wet feet from the start. 😂
I’ve never really suffered with trench foot until Lakeland when they took an absolute battering!
We’ve bought some ‘Trench foot cream’. You’re supposed to apply it the night before and then again in the morning whilst topping up along the way. Not sure I’ll be faffing about on the way though!
@@TrailRunningCouple Yeah mine took a battering in LL100 as well but the conditions sort of explained that one. I'll have a look at the cream and maybe give it a go the night before as you suggest. Thanks for the advice. See you there!
