    Yo you guys are awesome. There is a fine line between discomfort/suffering and overcoming the brain's messages and having an actual medical issue occurring. So glad you were wise enough to make the right choice and not jeopardize other people (oh...and yourself!!). It's a real heart warming testament to the trail running world to hear about the great support you received from Ted and Stuart etc. The course looked amazing and challenging so thanks for bringing us along! Your honest and open summary will no doubt help others who watch, that find themselves in a similar predicament. Good health to you both! Peace!

    There is absolutely no shame on a dnf... especially in that weather - and a stinking cold and medical issues I'm glad you both all good now- you both have inspired me to get out and walk the fells - I went to Stanley Gill force - so thank you both and get well soon Cheryl xxxx

    I was the dodgy Type1 that should have been on the start line. But I pulled out the week before with a horrible cold. As I didn't want to be someone else's problem.
    Health has to come first above all else it means you can fight another day.
    Cheryl, enjoy your enforced rest.
    I did see you at the top of Helvelyn.
    Take care.

      We’ve set off before not feeling 100% and still had enough to get through it but on this occasion it wasn’t to be. We’re both really happy with the call and knowing the route well we had a plan in place of where to abort. It was definitely a tough day out with some very testing weather over the Helvellyn range!

    I know this really was rough for you both, but this is what most of us need more than the beautiful perfect channels. I am just starting my running journey, and seeing the resilience on such a day and dealing with your first DNF really helps take some of the stress from my pushing what I can do during some of these races. Sincere thank you for sharing the downs along with the ups.

      Hi and thank you so much for your comments, they’re much appreciated. We try and show how it is when we run. Not all runs will be positive or even successful. There’s been a few of our weekend long runs that we’ve cut short for one reason or another other and it’s ok. You just have to see what went wrong and use it an a training exercise to move forwards with. I’m glad that side of our channel is there to see and it flatters us that people take inspiration from it. We’re all in it together and love what we do. Best of luck with your running 👍

    Hope all is well soon, it's a really difficult choice to stop. Had first ever DNF after being felled by cramp earlier this year - it took a bit of getting my head round, but looked into why it happened (not enough salt on board) so a learning process. The trail running community is so supportive, sounds like you had the right people at the right time. Look forward to seeing you out and about when fully recovered.

    Hiya, me and my partner were at LIAD as well (a fair way behind you two!). If it helps, the flooded shore path along Windermere last year was significantly deeper after all the rain (I'm 6'3 and my shorts got wet). Swimming thigh deep in Windermere for a few km wouldnt have helped the cold at all! Hope you've recovered now, and I'm sure you'll come back stronger for the next race ❤
    Thanks for all your vids, we used your LIAD '22 video as part of our recce for this year. Informative and great to see other couples doing these things together.

      @TrailRunningCouple  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! So glad to hear you finished. Windermere certainly looked like fun, well under normal circumstances we would have been gutted to have missed out on a good wading but it wouldn’t have been good in our circumstances!
      We’ll be back again next year to put this right. Hopefully!
      All the best for your future running 😊

    Very happy is all well and good. What I was thinking about more is that if you'd come across my wife and I on the hillside like yhat then you'd have made sure we DNF'ed and were safe down off the hill, so, best decision made for everyone overall.

    • @TrailRunningCouple
      @TrailRunningCouple  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. There’s no doubt about it and not worth the risk. There’s times when you bang your chest and push through and times when you have to know that isn’t the best idea. It’s knowing when make that call that keeps you and others safe. Appreciate your comments 👍

      It’s certainly on the steep side. We did it last year and I struggled through it. At one point i had a mountain rescue guy asking me to get in his land rover but I declined, got it together and finished. Such a tough race. Back again as I think I can do better but we’ll see!! Thanks again.

    Wow, i was wondering what had happened and part of me guessed right....apart from the expensive taxi 🤐. Watching the video i also thought of mandatory kit and without judging i knew you both had 100% what was needed and im glad you brought this up for others to be aware of. I myself have not ran for over 2 weeks now with having a bad chest infection which makes me sound like darth vader and have been coughing all nights has kept me awake. I know im not the only one who has this and i think there has been a lot of crappy various chest infections across the country and Cheryl you might have the same. The good thing we can recover! Also don't feel too bad about the DNF. It was out of your hands. Yes the first one sucked and there will be more i will say. I know, i feel i'm the king of DNF's at the moment 🤣 Stay strong both of you and enjoy the rest. Sometimes our body needs it.

    • @TrailRunningCouple
      @TrailRunningCouple  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Andy. Definitely a nasty virus which is now on its last legs but not before Cheryl transferred a little of it to me as well. Went back out running last night for the first time since LIAD and felt OK so that’s good.
      As for the DNF, it had to happen at some point. Definitely sucks but what can you do? Health and other issues dictate whether we finish a race or not and up to this one we’ve been pretty lucky.
      Hope you’re feeling better now 👍

    You two are such a massive inspiration. There is absolutely nothing bad about a DNF in such extreme circumstances and Gary was 100% right to make that call, your health always comes first and there will be other races on other days. Never an easy decision to make. You've got to keep a good head on your shoulders in the hills and knowing when to stop is a valuable skill. Ultras are a fickle beast and so many things can have such a big impact on a race. Congratulations for making the right call and prioritising your safety.

    • @TrailRunningCouple

      Thanks Jess, an outcome we have always dread but for good reason so it eases the pain. Only a little though. You know what it’s like and it’s not a great feeling. That said when there’s no choice you just have to lump it and move on. Still happy it was the right decision though 👍

    Funnily enough the wife and I walked past the aid station and up Blencathra the steep way later that day. Brutal! All the other comments say a good decision and we agree. Hope filming stuff doesn’t add extra unhelpful pressure that could lead to bad decisions.

      Thank you, it’s a tad steep isn’t it?! As for filming, it doesn’t add any extra pressure at all. I think without the cameras we would have started the same and finished the same. Sorry you had such an awful experience. In our endeavour for "success" we do take for granted the tremendous work done by volunteers without whom most races would not exist. Again through our single mindedness we tend to believe that all these aches and pains are all part of the process and should be ignored and I say this through experience. So glad you made the right decisions and look forward to seeing your mind blowing exploits once again . Make haste slowly Cheryl. I wish you both well

      Volunteers are the unsung hero’s in all events. They have my upmost respect for what they do. There’s a knack to knowing what you can run through and what you can’t. For the first time we encountered something we couldn’t. Chances are it’ll happen again at some point for maybe other reasons so all you can be is prepared to make decisions should that happen. Thank you 👍
