You sold me on the gen 3 A50s two and half years ago and they were absolutely worth it.
I’ve used them daily since I got them and they’ve held up pretty well too. The only two issues I’ve had are that the headband has flatten over time but since it’s replaceable I’ve ordered the mod kit so that won’t be an issue and it has locked up a couple of times but a simple hard rest solves it every time.
Overall the A50s are an incredible headset and if your willing to spend the money I highly recommend them.
My nephew has a set of Gen 3's and loves them. I see him walking around the house with them on, still in game on a break. He just gave me an early set of Gen 4's, and they are incredible! Having 3.5mm Aux and Toslink in as well is great. You can have more than one source. What I like about the advanced EQ is that I have the system adjusted for my speakers, and the built in EQ allows me to bring the sound back to a good balance for the headset.
I love the mic on this headset.
Definitely sound slightly muffled. Pretty noticable. Before I even read the title to the video, (because when I get a notification from PHT, I click first, ask questions later 😆😆) .. as soon as I was 30 seconds in, I thought my headphones were loose from my jack because it was muffled.. anyway, another great and relevant review from you sir! @Famous West I've bought 2 pairs of Arctis 7s, and the charging cable on both broke in a month. There really isn't anything better on the market, so don't be too bummed.
I have a question just got my Astro a50 gen 4 what’s the best mode too put it on to hear footsteps?
I use the 2nd setting i think its called pro
Aaron Rai just play around with it changing it every game everyone hears different. I’m not sure but for most people higher treble helps for footsteps.
Google Astro presets for cod and you will find potara ultimate v3x footstep preset 👍🏻👍🏻

For a gaming headset I would say the mic sounds great! Really impressed by the mic quality.

Do you think these a50s will be able to be used on the next gen consoles more specifically the ps5? If i going to pay $300 , I want these headphones to last a while.
I watched your guide a few years back when I got my 3rd gen a50s and you showed me how to use the command center. I just picked up the gen 4s because the plastic on the mic of my old ones started to chip off (they still work great though) I sent them out for repair and treated myself to the gen 4s. Thanks for all your help and I can’t wait for your review on the gen 5s in a few years. 👍🏽
Nice review as usual. However, I think you should include a mic test with noise in the background, to see how much the mic is picking up. A sound leak test could also be interesting.
How do you feel these compare vs. the Arctis pro wireless? Ofc they are both great, but which do you prefer? Personally I'm leaning towards A50, because of the comfort, mic and deeper base.

I’ve used this for 4 years now and the problems I have is my audio crackles a slight bit (not a big deal at all) and I have to update it CONSTANTLY. It sucks it has to update so much and you need a computer to do it. Other than that its a great mic and would def suggest!

I got these. After watching a video about the advanced settings i can hear footsteps clearer. Also he helped with surround for single player games. Love these headphones.

You said you get 2 years of Dolby Atmos free when you buy the Astro A50 Gen 4's? Where can I find out more about that? I didn't know that.
You get a code to redeem on the console or pc. It's bundled with the manual.

Yeah I can’t tell no difference. I’m not even sure if what I am playing or watching is compatible and I do not see any indicators for when it is active
So I don't understand, does the Dolby atmosphere button not do anything untill you sighn up and pay for it, and what does the equalizer button do
Hi Jason - I love your reviews and was wondering if when u play FPS games with the Astros do you put on Dolby surround ot not.
Just a update to your video. You can make all the changes on the PS4, you just have to use the Digital Out of the PS4 into the Base Station. Then you can control the audio through the command center. Leave it set to PC. The only time you need to set it to PS4 is if you a plugging the base station into the PS4 by way of the USB cable. You will not be able to use your Mic for voice, but you will have full control over the audio coming from the PS4 if you use the Digital Out option. Now the AUX port has a Mic out function on the Base Station so maybe you can plug that into your ps4 controller to get voice from your headset mic. I have not tested that though.

Good review Jason, i have always liked your headset reviews. I recently picked up the gen 3 A50s for a steal and I love them, I just wouldn't recommend the mod kit it's much more comfortable with the standard pads

@@malikhayes4556 you can use them straight out the box mate you just can't use the EQ or change the mic monitoring without the update
And when you add dolby atmos to this with good eq setting yeah is super nice , sad I'm using the ps5 with the digital optical out from my tv with great eq setting 🥰 , I wish sony some day buy the dolby atmos 1 day

So I just bought the Gen 4 A50's and use them on the PS5. Great video btw. So I cannot use the command center for my A50's because I use them on a PS5? Did I understand that correcly?

I like the wireless but hopefully don’t have to use optical cord. I’d have to hook the hdmi extractor back up which would defeat the purpose.
The stealth gen2 sound doesn’t sound full and balanced. Surround sound but all the other sounds are so soft i don’t get it
JT i purchased these but mine have a high pitch humming/Buzzing/hissing sound when no sound is being played.
Tried various leads optical even moved them to other room. Even got a free replacement same thing low sound but high frequency hissing buzzing, did you notice that.???
I watched this because I was experiencing what you described as not hearing your voice, glad you explained it as I play Warzone only so I purchased the best earphones possible and I love them but the factory setting has it so that I can’t hear my one voice inside and it’s throws me off and makes me want to shout.

How the lateral buttons work?
Do they decrease the voice of the people who are talking to me on the discord and increase the volume of the game for example? I have an A50 GEN 4 but I'm not getting it right.
Once I connect back to my PS how do I know what preset I am on? For example you have 5 presets and 3 eqs for each.
i just bought these a few days ago for the ps4 in the UK for £300 ($374) not usually one to spend a lot on this kind of stuff but as an avid gamer im happy with my purchase they look and feel great. also having the best headset on the market feels awesome... is it worth the money? idk depends if you are serious about gaming/streaming but my guess is you can probably get the same quality for cheaper but with less customisation its all a matter of choice so make up your own mind.
EDIT: I just learned how to turn the volume up lol it's got pads on the side of the headset haha man im kinda dumb for not learning how to use it first but yeah waaay better sound now. Cheers.
toorz I recently bought the Astro a40tr with mix amp pro (gen 4) and they are amazing. I don’t mind the wire and love having the mix amp
I just received my pair today in preparation for the Xbox series x.. your review sold me on the headset and after doing the update they just sound incredible stereo uncompressed really makes them crystal clear.. still have to try Dolby Atmos

I believe the connection issues they mentioned were the random and annoying cutting out of the headphones from the base station that plagued gen 1-3(not sure about 3) for pc. I use the gen 1 and well it cut out twice while I am writing this comment.
Had the Arctis pro wireless for 2 years and broke so now im trying A50s. Had the gen 2 and 3 before also. Loved them but iano.. so far the Arctis pro feels better. We’ll see. It’s only been a couple days.
So it seems like a win/win if you get these or Arctis Pros. I traded up my gen 3 A50s for the Arctis and it seemed to blow the A50s away. The Arctis just sound tighter, crisper, and not too bassy. Would you say I'm safe sticking to Steel Series?

300 is a lot of money but I've had my Astro a40s wired for 10 years and I love them I've only had to replace the mixamp and cord one time. Great video man thanks for the review. And do you play that piano?
Mine doesn’t even recognize the headphones it’s just saying please connect it’s on pc mode and the cable is plug in I’ve put it in on all spots on my pc and still doesn’t work thinking about returning it
I can’t tell the difference between the a40 mic and the a50 mic. It sound the same.
So I been having the Astro A50 for about a month now and I’m just not to happy with them. For $300 I just feel like they should be louder, I’ve customized then multiple times trying to find the right set up. I am thinking about going to another headset, any recommendations?

Go check out the website, there is a new firmware update.
So the A50 does NOT have a stream out port. Just picked them up and found that on the back it has a aux input, optical digital in and optical digital out but no 3.5mm line out. There is no stream out port on this headset. Which is pretty disappointing.
When I use my a50 my voice is low and cuts off all time. My friends can’t hear me when we’re playing. I tried adjusting all kinds of recommended settings and nothing really works. You would think $300 wouldn’t have these issues out of the box. For me the headset is way too heavy, the top of my head hurts wearing these too long. My cheaper Arctis 1 has none of these issues.
What are you using that it cuts out on? Xbox/PS/PC? Updated the firmware of the headset right?

The audio has been cutting out for 1 or 2 seconds whenever I play. It's not because I'm far away or something, because I'm sitting like 1 foot away from the bass station and my PS4. Idk what to do

Friend, could you help me? My Astro A50 4gen headphones can be heard perfectly. When I play with friends and speak on the microphone they say they hear me well. When I am recording with the OBS program and I play the video, my breath is heard. How can I solve this, please?

I really don't like how there aren't two seperate buttons/sliders for chat and game audio. I have a TB Elite 800x and so often I have my gaming audio kinda loud and I don't hear my friends too well, so it's ideal to be able to crank the chat volume up as well.
I have a question. Can i leave my astro at the base if they are full battery? Or it will damage the battery?
Tried these out and I loved all the various features that came with this headset. The charging stand, physical/digital customization, and overall look were done so well. Didn't find that the sound quality was quite to my expectations, but this was overlookable. Unfortunately the poor microphone quality was too much of a deterrent, the muffled sound showcased in this video sums it up well. Spoke to at least 5 people who all thought this was a downgrade from my current headset - the Audio Technica ATH-ADG1X. Still hoping to find a wireless solution with parity. Thanks for the review

I get one last year 2020 I almost have one year with them and now for some reason the command center shot off no light nothing is completely OFF the headset turn on but without the command center you can hear nothing I send a massage to Astro customer service and the send me back a video for set up for the first time that’s how they help me and didn’t hear from them it.
Just got these. Had the 2nd and third gens and these are by far the bes in terms of design and connectivity. The new base station is much better as well. My box came with 2 years of Dolby atmos on Xbox... Is that normal?

Wonder if they're worth the upgrade if you own gen 3?? I'd assume not but maybe? The mic sounded a little better to me than I do on gen 3 but I could mess around with settings in command technically I suppose

Anybody else have issues with the presets not working on the headset on console? I'm now on my 2nd one and the presets are no different, I've checked for updates, nothing and even changed it on pc to where I guarantee there's a difference but when I switch to ps4 the presets sound no different than each other.
So the steel series is a closed back and the astro is an open back

I CANNOT get them to update. I have tried 3 computers 2 pc and a mac. It always fails on step one. They are brand new and having a few volume issues that appear solved by the patches. CANT get the patches to install very frustrating for $300.
You get an audio pop when the mic is muted and unmuted.
It makes me sad because i am a serial muter so i have to listen to that popping sound about 💯 times a day 😢 makes me just wanna stay silent forever cant believe they f$¥ked that one up, just cant believe it.

Nah even if you don’t have the mic muted you get audio pops time to time, and i wouldn’t mute the mic 100 times a day cause the more you do that the wire in the mic will get worn out and then eventually make this terrible crackling noise when you move it.

Is there any kind of Bluetooth hookup? Anyway to have some music in the background of your gaming?
You can buy a Bluetooth adapter on eBay and make it Bluetooth compatible with your phone

What you mention on 17:13 about unfortunate not having the "app adjusting" available when connected to game console really sucks, -- I just bought these A50s 12-27-19, coming from TB 800 Elite after using them for 4.5 years... Anyways, the awesome thing TB 800 was "app adjusting" from smartphone. -- When having A50 in a different room and in a complexed home theater cabinet, and having to disconect to take unit to another room with computer to tweak the A50 settings -- Sucks! ... Why not have these A50 adjustments on smartphone app??

is there any delay in the sound compared to screen? can it be connected to a normal 3,5mm output (the base) so that you get the source of that output (let's say I want to use the virtual surround of my soundcard, which is SBX pro studio surround, and bring it wireless to the headphones through the base)

Can you check the hyperx orbit the s style is a gimmick I know but are the orbits better than the alphas

I had problems with the steelseries arctis pro. It was good for 2 months, then my PS4 did not connect to the headset. I tried everything but I couldn't fix the problem. I exchanged for A50. I never had a problem with astro

Any issues I've heard of sound being too low, constant audio pops while gaming, base station and headset not syncing up. Did you update to latest firmware? Did you have any issues please respond
I have these exact ones and I can tell that there are audio pops from time to time, but I haven’t had problems with the base station not syncing up. The sound quality of the headset is amazing and I haven’t noticed it be to low.

@@thejasontlewis Have been considering the Sennheiser GSP 670 or the GSP 370 headsets, then began watching reviews on these & only recently considered them to be "up there" in terms of what I was looking for.
The 670 has some strange feedback, especially when it comes to horrible range. Can't find anything on the 370s yet.
So you'd definitely put the Sennheisers above these A50s in your opinion?
Love the headset reviews. I'm about to go out and buy the steelseries Arctis Pro wireless tho, Amazon has it for $250 now I'm gonna try getting Best Buy to price match it. 🤞🏼

I had them. Wouldn’t recommend. I would get the Astro a40 tr with mix amp pro (gen 4) or if you NEED wireless then these gen 4 a50s
Did plls don't tell me u just got them😬. I had them and returned them, the sorround has a 2 sec delay, and they can rly hurt your ears if u don't adjust them all the time. The sound is good but like very little base even with the eq fixet. They're just not worth the money with all that
@@adamyounes6244 I did get them. Surround has no delay (when I hold the secondary button till ((7.1)) pops up on the base station). Headset is working fine for me so far, even tho I'm still learning how to use it fully on the PS4.
If I have any complaints it's that I haven't figured out how to get the chat mix to tune out the game audio as much as I'd like so it's still kinda loud and I'm not hearing my friends over it when I want it that way.
It's certainly not as simple to set up and use as my PlayStation Platinum headphones, but I love it more for the size/comfort and I've been told the mic is much truer to my voice and I love the mute LED preventing me from talking to myself 🤷🏽♂️
I hear you all about the terrible customer support so that's why I got the best buy insurance so I can just swap it for another if I have a problem or just get something else if I'm not feeling it anymore over the next 3 years
