Solving the Unspoken History of Hickman's X Men (Powers of X #6 Companion!)

  • In Krakin' Krakoa #12, my analysis of House of X / Powers of X, I'm investigating Moira X's journal entries and mapping them to the entire history of X-Men comics! I'm wondering how the history of the X-Men fits into the retcons and revisionist history of Hickman's plan, including some of my own theories for the redacted journal entries.
    How does known X-Men continuity map to Hickman’s vision for the franchise moving into 2020? Nothing in X-Men history has been explicitly removed from the canon, but to date the elements that we can absolutely confirm are limited as and far ranging as Grant Morrison’s time writing New X-Men to the X-Men: Black - Emma Frost one-shot written by Leah Williams.
    So given the openness, I think we can pretty safely draw from a premise of “it all happened!” until proven otherwise. For my money, then, here are my picks for what X-Men stories each entry refers to and what the redacted entries say about Moira and Charles' past history.

    Also, Hickman said there is a reason Marvel Girl is in that uniform and after doing research I believe that Jean is being held to her Marvel Girl powers by Xavier like when he did it during the Dark Phoenix Saga. He's trying to keep the Phoenix at bay.

    I think "Year One" may just be the name of an era, like the beginning of Xavier's formation of special mutant teams. Not necessarily a chronological time frame. I lumped the original five, and the second squad into that single time period. I also put his meeting with Forge (to tweak Cerebro) at the end of that period.

    I didn't really take X0, X10, X100 and X1000 to imply literal years, as if X10 was literally 10 years after X0. I sort of took it to imply different eras or periods of time within the history of the X-Men. Marvel has always said for as long as I can remember that their entire timeline currently spans around 12-15 years anyway, which makes sense with Peter Parker being in the backend of his 20s if he became Spider-Man when he was 15. All in all, I really like your breakdown of events. Honestly, I'd like to pick and chose which runs did or didn't happen anyway.

    Regarding the question of all the X-Men history happening in "Year One" in PoX. I've met multiple people who didn't understand this. I think the reason is that "Year One" is actually a bullshit title if you look at Hickmans timeline of Moira's life in HoX #2. The parts of PoX that are titled "Year One" actually happen over a much longer span of time: When Xavier and Moira meet in PoX #1 Moira is 17 years old (also Xavier can walk). When Moira and Xavier meet Magneto in PoX #2, she is 43 years old (also Xavier is a wheelchair). So actually the X-Men events you talked about happened over the course of 25 years.

    The creators explained that the year 1 stuff isn't literal. Great videos though. I love your passion and desire to dig deeper instead of creating rushed click bait like many others

    Fantastic video, thank you so much, I read those stories as a kid and had forgot how much Moira did in the past.
    I think you are totally right, and that the Moira series will definitely re-visit those moments. I cannot wait !!!

    Don't forget, in the Inferno saga the main objective was the creation of an Omega level mutant via the union of the clone of Jean Grey (in the form of Madelyn Pryor) and Scott Summers (Cyclops). This son would be known as Nathan Summers (infected by techno organic virus to become future Cable). This came about via the machinations of none other than Mr. Sinister, which were almost ruined by Madelyn's sacrifice of her baby to the demon Nastyr. If one remembers, Mr. Sinister was acting under the auspices of Apocalypse and Nate was later claimed by Apocalypse Ship, an technological artifact of none other than the Celestials. The Celestials in Marvel canon are the source of the mutant gene and in my opinion are in direct competition with the Titans at the core of black holes, if not one and the same. Needless to say, Hickman has always had a penchant for pitting Celestials against mutants, Galactus, and Franklin Richards (another omega level mutant). The course of X-Men has always been the omega (Nathan, Vulcan, Proteus, Franklin, Legion, etc.) because they all have a connection to the only things Titans fear, Galactus and the Phoenix. I believe Hickman is heavily influenced by the Earth X story in which it is revealed that mutants are the immunity of the Earth against invasion and consumption by Galactus, all in defense of the Celestial egg at the center. Of course, the Grey line connects to the Phoenix, another abstract. All of it beautifully coincides with Hickman's vision, let's hope he doesn't fuck it up this conflict of the aeons and the gods.

    There is awhile decade between the first year and HoX where do you get your timeframe from? The X Men have been XMen for 10 years. It changes the perspective of your whole timeline. Also, Moira didn't plan on cloning. Magneto and Prof X did that own their own.

  • @lifemattersnot

    I see it as an accelerated timeline (there have been a lot of video game jokes about save files) various events from xmen history have happened as they where the comics in other lives and Moria is cherry picking things like her son for life ten and events in that history have happened slightly faster or in a different way inferno is the linchpin because mr sinister knows and that's most likely when

    I think the significance of Madelyn Prior being brought into existence is so Cable also could be. Despite her being Jean's clone, every egg and sperm produce different results, so without the exact egg from Madelyn, and the exact sperm from cyclops, cable nor stryfe for that matter, are ever born. Which means no legacy virus, but that's neither here nor there.

    • @Comicbookherald
      @Comicbookherald  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly the legacy virus part of this actually could be significant - Moira plays a major role in analyzing! I hadn't considered that angle so thanks for the idea.

    When I first read Entry 17, I think Moira gather her team (Vulcan, Petra, Sway, Darwin) is another way to create the Five. He needs reality warping mutant to make the Five work - with his 4 X-Men Deadly Genesis.

    I got the impression Xavier and Magneto did all of those things in "Year Zero" and then mindwiped themselves. It makes no sense that they would be adversaries, then continually teaming up in between events otherwise.

    I'm confused: regarding the last journal entry, when has moira faked her death before in x-men history? when, and why? and does that mean we don't hear or see moira again--until Hox/PoX?

    Charles was off planet when Mr. Sinister enacted the mutant massacre. Moira was tending to them in the medical bay at the mansion... or was she getting DNA samples?

    Great job; question: at this point who is more "evil", Moira or Sinister? There has been a lot of the morally questionable going around. Lol.
    At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Moira is or will become Nimrod. Technically, she's acting like mutantkind's Mother Mold wierdly enough. "No precogs" is her rule #1 after all...
    It seems to me that a side effect of her ability is total recall, not like when we recall when we were kids. If that be true, her knowledge has to be omega level at this point. She's worked with and learned from just about everyone on the Council at this point...
    ...just sinister. 👍

    I don't think x0 x10 etc should be marked as years. They are another time measurement that should be read as being relative. This is comics and they really can't stick to a real world time frame.

    Commenting before the video is over, but; Apocalypse appeared in x-factor. The original x-men left after giant sized #1 before making x-factor because they didn't trust Xavier anymore(the first time Lmao). But would they still have left the x-men with all the changes Moira was making? I'm too confused on the time frames and time lines despite your best efforts.

    • @FredMaverik
      @FredMaverik 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, everything that happened, still happened, supposely what we have read are all already Moira's changes, get it? She didn't "start" changing events. The reveal of her power shows us that the entire X-men history is affected by her and X. Hope I cleared it up.

    • @kyotaiken
      @kyotaiken 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get what your saying. The only problem with that is that it is just one possibility of many. Depending on how Hickman chooses to move forward, only one of several scenarios will be the final outcome, explaining what is exactly what with the time lines.
      The fun is trying to figure it out beforehand with only the limited info we're slowly given, the history of the past story's, and our wits.
      There's always the option of how DC handled Batman in the post Rebirth landscape. Saying most of the major events in the 616 had happened, only changing slightly around x-men specific storylines, and only when specifically referenced in Canon from then on. This leaves mostly the rest of the 616 largely unaffected by Moiras X-centric changes.
      There's too too many unanswered questions still to be answered with how certain characters are alive again, others dead, others not acting as bitter enemies, and just generally a ton of characters who's position in the story now is totally incongruous with where they were last left off before hox/pox was released.
