- Today I'll be digging into the 2019 release of Excalibur #1 by Tini Howard and Marcus To, the second non-Jonathan Hickman written comic released by Marvel, as I continue to explore all elements of the exciting Dawn of X on my "Krakin' Krakoa" X-Men series.
I'll be answering:
How does Excalibur fit into the Dawn of X and Hickman's X-Men?
What does the series history of Excalibur tell us about this story?
Plus answers to questions like Is Apocalypse a wizard now? Who is the White Witch? And how a single word in this comic sets the stage for one of the coolest cosmic crossovers I can imagine!
The conversation includes a history of Excalibur and the Braddock family (Betsy, Brian, and Jamie!), as well as explanations of concepts and locales like Otherworld, the Omniverse, and the Captain Britain Corps. I'll also move into modern Marvel comics that tackle Avalon and Captain Britain, as well as recent developments for the characters including Psylocke's transformations.
Comics discussed include:
Chris Claremont and Alan Davis on Excalibur
Alan Moore and Alan Davis on Captain Britain
Uncanny X-Force
Hunt for Wolverine: Mystery in Madripoor
Excalibur #1
Many, many more
The back half of the video includes answers to the biggest questions coming out of Excalibur #1, as well as my review of the issue, and how it compares to X-Men #1 and Marauders #1. I also pitch a completely irresponsible theory about how Excalibur #1 could connect to the Tini Howard written Thanos miniseries.
