I just watched that episode on Saturday, it was so intense. For a second I thought it was actually Sam yelling at everyone and not Scanlan!
*_”GO BACK TO YOUR HOME, DAVID BOWIE!”_*
This is probably one of my favorite episodes
"It was easy to remember" fast forward 5 months and Sam completely forgot the names lmao
So Jester IS in a cult. I knew it!
Jester started the fuckin cult.
Not just IN a cult, the cult leader!
So Jester believed Artagan was a god, he got hooked on power, went out to find other Jesters, started getting worshipped more, actually started to become a god, freaked out, and in his own words “I have no idea what I’m doing, I need your help.”
I love laura's smile when she realises that artie was always her god. She wrote it as backstory but didn't think matt was willing to do it.
2:43 (internal monologe) "shes a good kid really, worrying about dumb-old-me's feelings"
freaking love your animations, they're great
I've always liked how you end your videos, with the cast laughing and just showing how much they love and enjoy each other's company
Liam is amazing... you can see that Caleb is in love with Jester, it's just all over his face as he watches her go to sleep.
I love that Ashley's always totally on board for a deep cut throwback joke to C1. She asks Sam about Nott's parents after his Scanlan bombshell in C1, and then recently in C3 she made the joke about Strongjaw/Stonejaw to Travis too. She's so game to give them shit, it's hilarious. We just hardly ever get to see it. So glad she's gonna be in C3 full time, we've def been missing out without her.
What are the odds that Artagan's deification is actually a prank maintained by the Changebringer. Mischief on an archfey? An elaborate prank involving a deity of mischief involving a new godling of the same ethos? Did Artagan originally plan on having Jester as a warlock? hmmm
Nice callback. And I agree with Matt's reaction; Ashley's question is *chef's kiss.*
And then Sam, getting asked the question, answers, "Her name was Ashley," and Matt is like, "Write that down. All of you, write that down."
I love this group of nerdy-ass voice actors, so much...this is like watching a group of kids grow up, that none of them ever truly stopped being kids. Except Matt has to be the one that herds rowdy children, instead of each individual parent, lol.
Edit: I just realized: There is the saying, "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled, was convincing the world he doesn't exist." Jester is the opposite of that, her greatest trick was trying to convince the world that the Traveller existed, but nobody would believe her. That is the true iteration of the Trickery Domain, IMO.
Laura Bailey: Master of making everyone fall in love with Jester
I just freaking realised that's why the music is so familiar but sounds different. It's the same music from Campaign 1 scenes.
not making that mistake twice, no thank you
You said the magic words of graditude it's already too late.
I imagine Caleb was contemplating what Yasha said to him the other night while staring longingly at Jester and nobody can convince me otherwise
I forgot how everyone was convinced the traveler was evil.
Is everyone in love with Laura, or it it just me and Travis?
e v e r y o n e
G.T.O. The Public Beta Test This is one of those situations where ‘is it just me’ would never really apply.
I assumed that was the default
Laura Bailey is the best. And no I am not IN LOVE with her, but I do love her. Many different types of love you know.
she's not called laura "harp music" bailey for nothing
I really love the trope of the power of a childs imagination, the pure, innocent faith and believes...
The fact that Jester took her time to apologize to Caleb because she used Modify Memory, when he didn't think of it as a big deal because she made the hag happier is why I think Widojest is the best ship. Also the way Caleb looks at Jester longingly excuse me
2:34 This whole moment! MY WIDOJEST HEART!!!
Everyone just gonna ignore the fire parenting advice in the opening clip?
Widojest and Fjorclay continue to rise, much like Artagan rose to Godhood. Honestly the big reveal was so satisfying and validating like WE BEEN KNEW but yes good thank you Matt for making it even better than I had hoped.
Side note, but the one downside to this video is how we miss the rest of the table losing their shit over the reveal.
i can sail with those ships
@@plaidpoet lets sail together comrade
I have a feeling that Matt may have come up with the surprise Venus Fly Trap from the game, Evolve, since he voiced one of the hunters - Abe.
Traveler: Are you ready for the absolute truth?
Jester: Yes ...
Traveler: YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
That look Liam gives Laura, Caleb to Jester. *NNNNNNNNN WIDOWJEST INTENSIFIES!* 1:57-2:53
An imagination, love, and will say strong and pure. That it managed to make a F$ god!!!
6:35 best moment, the camera pan is perfect
GEEZ CALEB PINE A LITTLE QUIETER WHY DONT YA
"I glance back at the dome"
The dome: 😬
travis's expression in the thumbnail, im f'n dedddddd :D
im just so impressed by matt somehow perfectly timed that intense point in the music while Artagan talked.
What a beautiful monologue by Matt. Bravo!
Wait, does Artagan worship Jester, then?lol
Not really. He is just seeking advice from Jester since he doesn't have anyone else he can talk about this to. As Matt said, the trick she pulled last episode was just a sign to him that Jester was ready to learn the truth and may be wily enough to help him.
Yes %100 without a doubt he does
don't we all?
D&D purists will hate this... But what the hell, Matt is taking a risk here, and I wanna watch it unfold.
Since when has Critical Role done /anything/ to please D&D purists?
Matt has always been very clear about the fact that this Traveler isn't the same as the one that's worshipped in Eberron, so I don't see how this would upset even the purists
This whole scenario is more interesting than anything you'll find in a 'purist's' game.
I'm with you on this one. I too can't wait to see this play out. TravelerCon just got even more intriguing.
I'd assume that everything in the guidebook and handbook is just as a guide, and it's up to the dm and the players to work with another to have a great rpg fun. At least, that's my opinion...
@@alvintollah Exactly. The very core of D&D is that at the end of the day, none of the rules actually matter. It's up to your DM to shape the world and the game as they see fit, and if it means tossing out what the book says and making your own things up, that is 100% valid. So long as everyone at the table knows about it, agrees to it, and it is kept consistent, you can play D&D however you want. The handbook and other publications are literally just guides and suggestions.
I can somehow see Jester being a goddess besides the Traveler by the end of the campaing. Sorta gods of joyful chaos and trickery idk
I love that on Veth’s wiki they actually put her parents as being Ashlee and T’ravys Smyt’hh 😂
Caleb yelling "Use your Luck point!" At 4:15 Fucking sends me
I was hoping the traveler was going to be vax but it makes more sense that he was artagan
Matt makes even Near Gods seem completely relatable, next session in 2 weeks time (i think) will have to be part of official D&D Lore and if its not ima die
Oooohhhh
Quarantine binge watch C1 context!
For a surprise flavor in your already delicious meal.
That split screen. I had no clue, In those swirl of emotions, where Jester stopped and Laura began.
I would have no idea how to stay acting during a revelation bomb like that
"easy to remember," says Sam.
This ages well.
DAMN THAT ENDING! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!! great job dude
A Jester after my own heart..... if only I had one.
Hmmm sensing another possible VM one shot here, them getting Artagan out of the Fey maybe? Although i know shit about dnd so i dont know if that's substantial enough to be a one shot
Alexander Marcelino yeah I was wondering that. Did VM actually get him a doorway, or did he get others to do it? Edit: thank you all! I now know that Vox Machina did it.
@@joshuamcclung8362 VM promised they'd make the doorway in exchange for his help, it's generally implied they upheld their end of the bargain after their adventures. Dealing with Vecna took priority at the time, but they promised him they would bring him to the material plane. C2 is 20 years after C1, plenty of time for a retired bunch of adventurers to keep that promise.
Jester in charge of a godling? What could go wrong? :)
Honestly, I see people talking about FjordxJester or BeauxJester or even CalebxJester... but honestly, I'm rooting for TravellerxJester
Ch£shireRat I can accept this
If widowjest doesn't sail I plant my flag on this hill and this is where I shall die defending it.
@@TimeLordessKyra Honestly they are second in line if I don't see Travester (Traveller x Jester)
Everyone x jester really. As beau said, everyone has a crush on jester
Whether it’s Jester or Gozer, if someone asks if you’re a god...
You say YES!!
Hmm. You know, Jester is like someone playing a Fallout game with max stats in charisma and luck...
