    I have had the Disting ex for a couple of years now. First year it gathered dust, but now I know it, it is in every patch, and often in the forefront. amazing module.

      It definitely takes a lot to learn. Not for the faint of heart!

    This is a great video introducing the Disting EX ... I think I originally fell in love with the Multisample algorithm, but it's a gift that keeps on giving. And they keep adding to it - so, it was only the other month I noticed there was an updated firmware and they'd gone and put Plaits and Rings into it! I also got the little 2HP MIDI expander for it, so can send in MIDI data and play the Multisample and Polysynth polyphonically very straightforwardly. And that's without even getting into what effectively having 2 MK4s can do if you run it in Dual mode.
    Downsides I would say, about a year in, is the screen is a bit fiddly, sure. I have found a way of getting used to it, and the muscle memory develops over time I've found. Also, it is a power hog - but as it happens I have two separately powered Niftycases linked together so that doesn't cause an issue for me. Otherwise I have nothing but praise for this amazing module, it's the heart of so many patches for me. I really cant think of anything else "bad" about it!
    And, yes, I did buy a second one ...

    • @braintree56

      It's definitely one that you have to dive in and really learn. But yeah, I could see how having more than one would be especially helpful!

    Love the video. Though I already own a Disting Ex you’ve given me more ideas on how to utilize it for alternative patches.

    Thanks for this. I just ordered a Disting EX, MIDI expansion and a Disting mk4. Do you plan on doing any more Disting videos. I'd be really interested in seeing how you use it in patches in different ways. I've only just started down the modular path and think that these modules are a no brainer for trying out different utilities etc, to see what I need to get standalone modules for.
    Thanks Mr. Tree!
    Cheers ✌️

      Unfortunately I decided to sell my disting. It was a hard decision because it does have a lot to offer, but the screen was just too small and hard to read for me. My eyesight is not great. I also had trouble remembering how to navigate certain things and was consulting the manual frequently.
      There have been times where I've regretted selling it though and have thought about repurchasing it... :) it's a great module. Definitely will be good for trying out different utilities.

    • @TheDavidPoole
      @TheDavidPoole 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@braintree56 Have you thought of adding the larger screen? I'm going to. I'm almost 60 now and my eyesight is not what it was! It seems pretty easy to do. The only connection seems to be a few Dupont cables. Thonk sells a 1u board to solder the screen to, and you can get a 3u to 3 x 1u adapter to pop it in if you don't have a 1u rack strip. I don't, so I'll probably do that, or bodge something up 😀
      Cheers ✌️

    Great video as always!!! Especially love the multisample feature... something I've wanted, to have a piano that I can add into my patches like you have! Do you know of other modules that can do the same, perhaps without all the extras?

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Any sampler should work. These samples are pretty good though - Spitfire audio is know for pretty good sound quality. But there are a few samplers out there. With that said - those are generally pretty pricey... So... This might still be the best option.

  • @ChristopherStoppiello
    @ChristopherStoppiello ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I picked up a Disting Ex on a whim last fall. I’m still not gelling with it. My chief complaint is the ergonomics of the screen and knobs. The placement of the tiny screen forces some pretty uncomfortable hand position to actually interact with the module.

    • @braintree56

    I paired the ex with a Faderfox EC4 midi controller with the expert sleepers midi breakout. Best thing for this controller, ive spent the odd bit of spare time programming all the best parameters into the controller and naming them, works like a dream, highly recommend it. The only thing id love now is the large breakout screen but ive filled my eurorack space now 👾🤣

    Tbh I know we’re not supposed to like menu-diving. But I actually prefer it to the unlabelled button combos, LED colour coded modes, many of our beloved modules use.

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can see that. I really don't like the button combos either. I often forget them and have to constantly referemce the manual. I'm a big fan of one knob per function... But...

    amazing video. great channel. subscribed!
    in the first couple of months i got this module, i just wanted to throw it out of the window. i emailed OS ( developer + great custumer service ) 24/7 and became his worst nightmare. i even found some bugs which he fixed under 24 hours. now i have 3 in my system. i know it is not every ones cup of tea, but it could be such a tremendous module. the looper algo is so underused. in the mean time OS added over 25 algos and the module is stone stable. imagine you can run 4 plaits if you want to....this module is absolutely insane. and the best thing. OS does very long and accurate videos about each algo in the single mode, i miss a video about the matrix mixer. tho so if you figured it out, would be great to make a video about it MM.

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I totally agree that this is a very powerful module. I did end up selling mine because I found that I was either consulting the manual too much and I needed to wear glasses to read the menu. (I don't frequently wear glasses, but I have them). I just found it too disruptive to the flow of things. But I can see why so many people love it.

    is this the factory sd card or did you buy a better highspeed sd card.? i saw it loads the sampels very fast. could you tell me what kind of card is inside?? i bought a sandisc extrem pro but yours seems faster. there was a batch with faulty factroy cards with lots of noises and gllitches on the multi sample algo ( specially the soft piano ) i think os changed the sd cardsin much better ones. would be great to know the name of the card. thank you.

      @@TheNimasan I bought a second disting new from perfect circuit, and was having glitches that I never had with my first one. I bought the same card that my first disting came with, when I bought it used, which was apparently swapped in by Control in Brooklyn, an excellent shop. Since buying the new card, a Samsung 32 G EVO plus, and copying the contents from the factory card, I've had no issues, and it's running smooth and fast.

    I did not hear you mention the depth of the module, though you did show it. This thing will barely fit in the top row of my Intellijel 7U case. It will not go in a 4U pallet or in a 4MS PodX. It would be a great module to use in a small system, but most small cases are too shallow for it.

    • @braintree56
      @braintree56  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really good point! I didn't think of that... My case is deep enough. The more I use this, I just can't stop thinking about changes to the form factor. I really wish they had made it wider with a larger screen. That might have allowed them to make it shallower too... Would have been a much better module!

    • @ExpertSleepersLtd
      @ExpertSleepersLtd ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will fit in a PodX (55mm deep, module is 50mm). Not a non-X Pod though.
