    Disting is truly one of those "must have" modules. Even if you don't use it much, it will always have the thing you need when you need it.

      I always reccomend it to anyone with a small system like mine as just changing the algo can completely change the sytem capability or purpose in a second

    Just started playing around with the programmable quantizer algorithm the other night and had a blast quantizing marbles sequences to 22edo and other microtonal scales. Disting never disappoints!

    The interface is a meme in itself at this point, but I love mine. I find the trick is to leave it in one algo for a few sessions and just learn that algo rather than flip between the algos regularly

    Brother, I love a disting. Excellent efficiency for my experiment palate. Matrix mixer and Rampage hogging the hp. Get that disting in there, some 2hp modules, erica picos, and now we're talking.

    9 months later I find myself back here at this video (having stolen the micro sd card from my disting for my 4ms diy sampler where the card got corrupted)....and also post Machina Bristronica '24 where I got a hands on demo of the new Disting NT from Os himself (life goal achieved!) and also got to enjoy the Surgeon set which you were literally were 2 feet away from me rocking out and enjoying the set and I didn't want to bother you.... but was internally ecstatic that we were enjoying the same thing ... also hours after meeting Scanner, Loula Yorke, Hainbach and Konstantine... yada yada some of these demos in the 1v/ oct section have a very Surgeon vibe! props! keep it up!

    • @larsgustav.gudbrandsen

      @@overand I know... mainly it comes down to price. Mk4's are relatively cheap second hand compared to the EX. I could probably get three Mk4 for the price of a used EX. I also have mixed feelings about tiny lcd displays in my rack. I kind of love the retro charm of the dot-display on the Mk4, even though it can be hard to navigate the algos some times...

    the disting is an amazing little module. its so good that I have 3 of them :)
    that amounts to an insane amount of functionality in 12hp
    it gets so many updates that its the gift that keeps on giving and Os is open to user suggestions (it has a scrolling mode on midi and wav playback that constantly scrolls the name of the file instead of reverting back to showing what algorithm it's on, Os implemented that within a day of me suggesting it as a feature, it was just a passing remark on a twitter post he had made :) I use the clocked midi playback A LOT (J1) so you can also use the disting as a sequencer of sorts and its really helpful to see what file is playing at any given time .

    This looks amazing. So much functionality in a small package that isn't too expensive. The Turing Machine functionality looks great. I have a 2hp Turing Machine. Having a second Turing Machine that does 111 other things is fantastic. If you haven't checked out the 2hp Turing Machine, you should. It can do up to 32 steps. Do a comparison between the Music Thing, Disting, and the 2hp.

    Great video. No hate to you. I'm not a fan of what I heard with the stereo tape delay. Yeah it 's a stereo delay, but it sounded nothing like tape whatsoever. I thought it sounded very digital for a couple reasons. When modulating the tape speed it sounded like there was some amount of stepping, Im not exactly sure that was due to the disting or if that was due to the audio source though. My other gripe is that it didnt have the creamy diffusion or the darkness you get with tape, no wow and flutter that I could hear, and it sounded too clean. With 84 algorhythms though Im sure I could find some use for it though in any case.

    Haven‘t used mine in a long time, this makes me hungry for disting again :D A lot of people claimed that the Disting‘s effects are just o.k. and it‘s more of a „if you like that kind of effect on the disting buy a dedicated module which always sounds better“. Would you support that statement?

    • @mylarmelodies
      @mylarmelodies  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m not entirely convinced the Disting is a poor cousin in any of the effects really - it’s too subjective! The FX aid and Nord lead taught me that what matters isn’t the power of the unit but the talent of the programmer. So you’d have to compare directly to know. At the end of the day this maxim applies here too - “the best camera is the one you have with you.”
