Just found out there is an amazing touch OSC editor that makes the disting so much easier to program. Really takes a hostile interface and makes it extremely easy to use.
the digital oscillator on the Fenix IV has a pulse train mode that is a bit like this Pulsar malarkey, and this has absolutely inspired me to go and play with it :D

The mk3 uses half the current of the mk1 so obviously the mk1 must be twice as warm. Plus only 16 modes in the mk1 so it must be much less digital than the later models. 😊
This video makes me want to buy a second and third one of those Distings 😂... on the other hand, I have a mk4 and a Disting EX, so it's like 3 already...

There’s a lot of “new and shiny” of course since it was announced, but the fact is, it’s insanely useful no matter what scale you’re at (well, short of Martin Gore levels of modular)
Well, I got one because it was heavily recommended on youtube, but the whole menu diving was just to overwhelming to properly use. Now its just sitting in my case as a tuner, pretty useful to have live xD

the disting is an amazing little module. its so good that I have 3 of them :) that amounts to an insane amount of functionality in 12hp it gets so many updates that its the gift that keeps on giving and Os is open to user suggestions (it has a scrolling mode on midi and wav playback that constantly scrolls the name of the file instead of reverting back to showing what algorithm it's on, Os implemented that within a day of me suggesting it as a feature, it was just a passing remark on a twitter post he had made :) I use the clocked midi playback A LOT (J1) so you can also use the disting as a sequencer of sorts and its really helpful to see what file is playing at any given time . here's a wee vid of that in action th-cam.com/video/fI3jnHcR3TE/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for contributing to my gas. This looks amazing. So much functionality in a small package that isn't too expensive. The Turing Machine functionality looks great. I have a 2hp Turing Machine. Do a comparison between the Music Thing, Disting, and the 2hp.
Great video. No hate to you. I'm not a fan of what I heard with the stereo tape delay. Yeah it 's a stereo delay, but it sounded nothing like tape whatsoever. I thought it sounded very digital for a couple reasons. When modulating the tape speed it sounded like there was some amount of stepping, Im not exactly sure that was due to the disting or if that was due to the audio source though. My other gripe is that it didnt have the creamy diffusion or the darkness you get with tape, no wow and flutter that I could hear, and it sounded too clean. With 84 algorhythms though Im sure I could find some use for it though in any case.
Haven‘t used mine in a long time, this makes me hungry for disting again :D A lot of people claimed that the Disting‘s effects are just o.k. and it‘s more of a „if you like that kind of effect on the disting buy a dedicated module which always sounds better“. Would you support that statement?
I’m not entirely convinced the Disting is a poor cousin in any of the effects really - it’s too subjective! The FX aid and Nord lead taught me that what matters isn’t the power of the unit but the talent of the programmer. So you’d have to compare directly to know. At the end of the day this maxim applies here too - “the best camera is the one you have with you.”
@VictorSteiner I think the moral here is bust yours out and do some experimental jams - worth making sure it’s updated with latest algos and have a look thru the manual to see what you haven’t tried
I can’t answer for the Mk II, but insofar as the Mk IV is concerned, the upgrade process is probably the easiest in all modular. Take iPad/iPhone, download the latest firmware from the website to the sd card and follow the simple instructions. Takes a minute or two tops, and you don’t need pc or Mac.
... And of course there's nothing stopping you from sampling (J5 & J7 algorithms), editing, slicing, reversing and/or recombining CV signals (LFOs, env/env patterns, stepped/slewed pitch CVs or wotevs) from other modules in your system. Then firing off these CVs to do things in your system perhaps at double or half speed without the associated pitching of audio. You'll not be a noob for long with a Disting. 🤗
