Use an air compressor to get them new grips on. Just shoot in from the inside of grip and they balloon up enough to slip right on. Motorcycle mechanic friend showed me that trick
yeah compressed air is way easier for removing grips and windex for installing them, wd40 for installing is dumb, you can never get it all out and it will screw with your grips for months, some grips are porous and the wd40 will actually soak into the grips, the ammonia in windex will help it evaporate quickly.....
When installing new grips- use hairspray! It lubricates it so you can get the grips on, and then when it dries it essentially glues the grip on... but not so much that it won't come off later by using the usual methods. Been doing them that way for years.
Bmx bicycle grips on a motorcycle. Interesting mod. Instead of wd40, try sanitizer spray or even a bit of dish soap. They dry faster than wd40 and won't do anything to the rubber. I put those same grips on a BMX with hand sanitizer spray and it was dry and stuck in good in like 20 minutes
They grip (no pun intended) much better than the factory grips. It is almost a sticky feeling. Not sure about longer rides since the weather here is still all over the place but I am very happy so far!
It should be fairly simply. Remove the controls from the right side of the handlebar, remove the grip, disconnect the cables, installation should be the reverse of removal. Once you get your eyes on the part itself it will make sense.
@@txhondaguy I do not actually. You can get metal replacement tubes if you didn't want to go with a factory plastic one. TJBRUTALCUSTOMS sells one but I'm sure other people do as well.
@@LuckyAcesRiding to each their own, personally I just wouldn't put that particular style of grip on a cruiser. A crotch rocket or a dirt bike would have looked okay with them at least in my opinion
compressed air, or rubbing alcohol. Soapy water works well in a pinch.

I heard of that as well but don't have a proper compressor, just the small automotive kind. Excellent tip though!

Ive been on the search for a video like this and this is the best one out there!! Thanks for the tutorial dude!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the tutorial 👍
Welcome! Glad you found it helpful!
@LuckyAcesRiding Got everything ready and will try it today with my Honda Phantom. TA200. 👍
Compressed air, blown under the rubber grip, helps a lot. No wd40 needed

The hand sanitizer or dish soap is probably a lot better on the rubber!
alcohol is good. Get it on quick and it evaporates faster for a quicker stick.
I didn't think of that! Good advice!
Well, now that they have been on for a couple weeks how do you like them compared to the stock? How are long rides?

The amount of wd-40 jokes kills me
It did the trick though!
Yeah wd-40 works great, could probably use soapy water in a pinch. Helpful video thanks!
WD-40 for the removal to dissolve the glue then hot water and soap to install the new ones. That would probably work well.
if possible you could also just used compressed air to remove the grips :) .. ty for the video and ofc installing them also :)
I've seen that too but don't have access to a tank/compressor.
I rolled my vans grips up,then unrolled them onto the bar.
Interesting, never thought of doing it that way!
Like a condom???? 😂
I own the 2004 same model. Am i able to install a third party fuel gauge and gear indicator? Is this a thing?
Where did you get the cables
The cables came from Mean cycles, but a lot of people buy theirs from Motion Pro as they are more affordable.
Hey lucky, my throttle tube is broken. Are those easy to replace?

@@LuckyAcesRiding thanks lucky. I wanted to replace the grips with some kuryakyns. Do you know if those come with a throttle tube?

That is what Rick James tells me!
You could have used several zip ties too..just another trick.
I had not heard of that one. I'll have to look it up.
For the love of God quit saying dub 40😂
haha! Cringe level 100.
Dub 40 dub 40 Dub40
Those grips just look cheap man, the factory grips were much better looking
They were cheap at about $20. Personally the factory grips felt a bit too large for me. Thanks for the comment.
