  • Greetings to you all! Today I am collaborating with the very gorgeous Frani Matthews to explore how we can adapt personal style inspiration from other body types. Such a fun topic! I am doing ‘Soft Dramatic does Gamine’, and Frani will be doing ‘Gamine does Soft Dramatic’ on her channel. We hope you enjoy!

    This also helps to understand why certain aesthetics did not work for me. I love that French girl effortless vibe look, but a lot of those lines cut my body in half. I did not realize that this was the cause of my frustration. I used to think that it was my body and not the lines. Please make more videos like this. So great!

    • @truegritcouture
      @truegritcouture  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I had the exact same realisation about that trend some time ago 😂 With all those broken lines, it just never felt right on my body. But I think it is possible to adapt the lines and recommendations to suit the expression of any style. That way we are not boxed into any particular archetype, and are free to explore any kind of personal style we want to. Thank you so much for watching Sheila. Wishing you a wonderful day Xx

      Thank you so much lovely! 🌸💕 It’s amazing how much of that was actually just purely intuitive. But now that I am better versed with my colour theory I have really been paying attention to anything I purchase for our home. Very fun! I’d love to do some jewellery making videos in the future. Thank you so much for watching! Xx

    Before I became interested in body geometry, I was drawn to the dramatic classic lines. But I noticed that a lot of the cuts looked boxy on me and color blocking really makes me look shorter than I am. Once I realized that monochromatic looks in soft dramatic lines make me actually look my height and also makes me look thinner, I realized that I truly am a soft dramatic. You pulled off the soft gamine look well. I’ve always thought your Hermés Scarves were an ode to the gamine look.

    • @truegritcouture

      That’s so wonderful, Lauren. It really sounds like you have a great intuitive connection to your lines, which is the ultimate situation. I’m so glad you enjoyed the gamine look! 🌸💕 Xx

    I think I'm a Theatrical Romantic in the Kibbe system, and I love Katherine Hepburn's style, especially anytime she wore menswear-inspired looks. She created such a dashing, timeless, elegant, yet practical and wearable look in her suits and classic sportswear ensembles. It's always fun to take inspiration from her and apply it to my very different body type. Hats off to Katherine Hepburn. Thank you for this great video!

    What a fun video with lots of great tips! I love that they could be applied to any archetype's "look" we're trying to play with. Beautiful final outfit, and I think the polka dot dress will look fabulous whenever it finds you! Classic and Dramatic outfits I often fall in love with, and then of course I have FNvy because it just looks so effortless and comfortable!
    I appreciate that you called attention to how outfits can look too "busy" for Soft Dramatic. We can handle "extra", but too many elements and it starts pulling the eye in all directions rather than keeping it on our curving vertical. I think that has been the lesson that took me longest to learn and I still have to look in the mirror to make sure I have the proper balance of *enough* elements to look polished, but not cluttered. You do a really lovely job of demonstrating the proper balance, it's so helpful.

    • @truegritcouture
      @truegritcouture  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is such a sweet compliment, thank you. 🤗🌸 I’m glad it came across that way. You’ve so beautifully articulated the nuances of the SD balancing act 😂 Polished, but not cluttered is a great way to think of it. Xx

      @Nerdy-By-Nature 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truegritcouture well thank you! It's finally starting to stick 🤣 Balance is usually what we think of with Classics, but I noticed recently we actually have a lot in common with SC, just "scaled up" and elongated - there is still balance but expressed a little differently. It's exciting when we find common ground with other types! I think it really can fine tune our individual style, as you demonstrated.

    Just loved this so much, as always. I love how the belt and the top blend together with the little shimmery pop with the belt buckle. Normally, I'd never ever wear a belt but you gave me an idea there (b/c there are some lovely belts). I do have a body type crush--you! I find that I can take a lot of what you say and apply it to myself although we have different body types & heights. I am still waiting to find my perfect Hermes 70x70 scarf! The way you wear yours is so you. I don't think anyone else could get away with it though I do enjoy wearing fancy silk scarves tied around my head and knotted in the back. Kinda '70s vibe. Anyway.... Thank you for another wonderful vid!

    Very late to the party here, but I'm reminded of when I first fell down the Kibbe rabbit hole in my late twenties. I wanted so badly to be a Flamboyant Gamine, although my actual personal style oscillated between FG and DC. The effect was stifling as well as choppy, if that makes any sense. The compliments I got when I dressed for vertical and curve should have been a tipoff that I was barking up the wrong tree. Last year I finally figured out that my lines fell somewhere in the Dramatic family--which is the sort of thing I naturally gravitated toward anyway! And then it transpired that I'm a Soft Dramatic, which forced me to step back and look at the lines that best suited me. I say all of this to say, great video. And thank you!

      @@truegritcouture A major difference, to be sure--once I stopped trying to squish myself into a gamine mold I found I could let 'er rip as far as style went. (Also it's a lot easier for me to shop for a Dark Autumn palette plus SD lines; FG looks and autumnal hues are a tricky combination at the best of times.)

    Hey! Thank you for another wonderful video! I am a self-diagnosed soft classic with a hint of gamine, which is fun. I often find I can get the under outfit right but not the coat/cardie because I'm also petite so generally need them cropped or knee length, whereas they usually just hit my thigh! I also love silk scarves esp when you get the right colours, so vital by your face! I have quite a collection of vintage Liberty but am saving up for my first Sabina Savage, if I can just decide which one... Anyway, take care and please keep them coming :-) p.s. who are your fave Aussie style icons?
