there was a great duel between local rivals coventry and wolves for the div 2 championship that season which the sky blues ultimately prevailed and secured promotion to the top tier for the first time ever in their history. wolves were runners up and were promoted too. add to that england won the world cup the previous year and it was a magical time. wolves had some great players - peter knowles, derek dougan, mike bailey - and ernie hunt went on to play for coventry. two talented teams
