@@zagortriplex100 oh right, winning gold in the long course Euro- and World championships or in this year's world cup in the last 3 years in that discipline and in the Olympics 10km is just a moment lol

@@jank.906 yes but you probably don't know that Paltrinieri had a severe mononucleosis in june, that didn't allow him to swim for 1 month (just before the olimpics!). Otherwise Florian would have a silver in the 1500 (he won by only 3 seconds, it would have been no match for Paltrinieri).

@@marcofoschi3811 I don't want to be patriotistic, as I admire and recognize Paltrinieris and Romanchuks performances but still it has to be considered that Florian has almost dominated in this distance since 2018 - so even before Paltrinieri had that illness. 3 seconds are already a lot by the way and saying that he could've been faster is, in my opinion, not more than speculation. If Paltrinieri wins the 800m tonight, in where he is apparently stronger, I'd be happy for him, since he and Florian have a good friendship. We (Germans and Italian) should stop ditching each other or anyone else anyway, when one of us is better.

@@jank.906 I am sorry, but on my side it's got nothing to do with patriottism, it's got to do with logic and realism. For example I have no problem saying that Quadarella won a world championship (2019) just because Ledecky was sick. Wellbrock is a fantastic champ, and time is on his side, but Paltrinieri is the only one who got worse between the european championships in may in Budapest (where he dominated everyone) and the olimpics. Easy: just because he was stuck to bed for weeks and could not train and taper . Since I am a swimmer (I suppose you are too), I know that 3 seconds in the 1500 after you had mononucleosis is not much at all and he really made a miracle. That's why I say that without illness Wellbrock would have been no match, because Paltrinieri was doing wonders during the loading period, before tapering. And try to imagine that he got 2nd at the 800 by only 23 cents of a second. That would have been an easy gold for sure. Last but not least Wellbrock's records are still slower than Paltrinieri' s.... so far (Wellbrock is 3 years younger)

I admire Patrinieri as a power swimmer but he has no finesse. Wellbrock is by far the better swimmer. Wellbrock is smoother, he breathes on both sides as opposed to Paltrinieri who only breathes to his right side and Wellbrock maintains a beautiful synchronized rhythmic kick.

Paltrinieri has the heart. He goes through 10x more pain then wellbrock does, and instead of having the perfect stroke he has the biggest heart. I admire both swimmers equally--one was born with an extremely gifted body and put it to perfect use, and the other chose to beat himself up everyday in practice so he could sprint the entire 1500. Swimming is not a sport about finesse-do not make it seem that way. This is not basketball where people see who can have the coolest dunk. Swimming is a sport where the best man wins, no matter how they do it. Do not degrade Paltrinieri's success with your bullcrap "finesse" when you know well you will never be able to hold going that fast for 14 minutes in your life.
