    This is a step-by-step video on how to replace and or install new spark plugs into a 2009 BMW X5 E70 4.8I V8. I explain what setup I used to get that really hard one on the back right. A list of most tools and materials that I used is linked below.

    0:00 Introduction
    0:21 I used the NGK Laser Iridium Spark Plugs. You will need 8 plugs for a 4.81 Engine. There are many options available for you to check the spark plug gap.
    0:38 Here is a new NGK Spark Plug. Part number IZFR6H11.
    0:54 You will need to remove the fasteners for the air intakes on both sides, of both air intakes.
    1:10 Pop out the plastic air intakes on both sides.
    1:41 Loosen the air duct that is attached to the mass airflow sensor with a flat head screwdriver.
    1:57 Unplug the wiring to the mass airflow sensor by squeezing the tab.
    2:44 Remove the air intake filters.
    3:31 Remove the air filter bracket. There are two screws on top.
    4:51 Pop up the locking clips for each coil pack. You can use the hole at the end of each coil pack to pull the coil pack out.
    5:07 Pull out each coil packs wire harness.
    6:13 Here is the first plug out. Clearly, it needed to be replaced. The spark gap is beyond specs.
    7:02 I used a feeler gauge to gap the spark plugs at 0.044.
    7:18 You will need a torque wrench for the spark plugs when installing them for final torque.
    7:34 Torque to proper foot-pounds (Ft/Lbs) or Newton meter (Nm). You will need to look up the specs yourself.
    8:06 Reinstall the coil packs for each cylinder. Make sure you put them back in the correct hole they came out of.
    8:22 This clip on top of the coil pack is what locks in the wires to the coil pack.
    8:38 Press the locking tab down to lock in harness into the coil pack after it is in the correct alignment.
    8:54 Make sure the arrow is facing towards the front of the engine.
    9:59 This setup is how I was able to pull out and put in the right rear spark plug. It's the hardest of the whole job. Magnets do wonders.
    10:15 I used a ratchet wrench with a flex-head for the sidewall nut. This nut holds the bracket on.
    10:47 The grease I used for the rubber grommets when reinstalling.
    11:02 Add a little grease to the rubber grommets before reinstalling parts back together for decreased wear.

    Wow, replacing the spark plugs is harder than I thought. BTW, great video, really helpful!

      Glad it helped you out! The back drivers side is the hardest one.

      It is not only hardest, it is impossible , because there is no room for the No.5 coil extend out without damage the spark pipe! You didnt explain how you make the no.5 out!

    Your video is appreciated and will probably be useful when I change the spark plugs on my 2007 X5. However the last half of the video skips identifying certain parts and only suggests vague identification of clips, nuts, etc. Perhaps if you edited with graphic arrows to identify what pieces you are describing? Your photos are clear but it is difficult for a novice to understand and see exactly what you are describing. Again- your video is good & helpful but can be better with some minor editing to help a novice see and understand what you are describing in your text. Thank you for your effort in posting your video!

    I'm running ngk g power and mane I tell ya car runs smoother and quick off the line. Iridium are good but I love working on my car so I'm running these until the end😊

    Thanks for the video. I'm not trying to be negative but one suggestion for future videos... either speed up the transition time or just use a cut. It is cute the first time but annoying after the 15th time. I do appreciate the info though and thank you.

    Great tutorial, what happens if you mix up ignition coils? is there a number on the coil itself that identifies which cylinder it should go back to?

    • @DIYNationTH
      @DIYNationTH  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not on single coil packs.

  • @taylorsons4303

    Why Didn't you go back with the same plugs? Did you do some upgrades to your engine to go with the ngks? Normally you have to do some upgrades like stage 1,2,3 to go with a cooler spark plug🤔

    • @DIYNationTH
      @DIYNationTH  ปีที่แล้ว

      No specific reason. Just did a little homework and went with these plugs.

  • @justinking8153

    Does it matter what order you put them back in? I also think I put the coils back in the wrong order. Runs bad still.. how do I know which coil goes where??

    • @DIYNationTH
      @DIYNationTH  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It won't matter on the order of replacement for the plugs however, if you had a misfire before you started the process and it happens to be a coil, then you might have moved the misfire to another cylinder if it's not the original coul you took out.

      People differ options on torque values with or without anti-seize on plugs so....unsaid words have no value. Can't be wrong or right at that point.

      @DIY_Nation_TH Very true. Just because these soyboys don't know how to work on their cars, all of a sudden, it's a conspiracy. Not to mention, conspiracy theorists must live a fairly sad existence if something is always out to get them.
