- How to replace a euro cylinder lock when the door is in the closed / locked position. When the security screen door is closed / locked and you have lost your keys or maybe your lock itself is faulty you will need to remove the euro cylinder lock in order to open the door and replace the lock. This is a very common problem with security screen doors in which people feel helpless and are therefore required to spend a lot of money for the services of a locksmith. When the door is in the closed / locked position access to the locking screw which holds the euro cylinder in place is not accessible and therefore the easiest way is to snap the lock as i show you in the video. Did it! First watched vid with opened door.. scanned comments for closed door and viola. While unlocking only took me 2mins, fitting the new damn lock took me +1hr. Got there in the end. Thanks Bill👍

I snapped the key off in the lock, the door was locked and I couldn't get the key out. Your method worked a treat. Thank you for putting this up. New euro cylinder from Bunnings for $23 and it's working perfectly. 👍

This video helped me replace the lock in a used door that I purchased. In Australia, thin doors typically use the 46mm euro lock while thicker doors use the longer 63mm lock. The job of breaking the lock is easier if you use 2 pairs of multigrip pliers with an assistant on the other side of the door bending the lock at the same time and in the same direction. The screw hole being the weak point in the lock is where you apply force. Multigrips with wide jaws (10mm) are best suited to this task.

Always use anti snap cylinders,it may make life difficult if you loose your keys but it also makes life difficult for the burglar who uses the same technique
Does anti snap mean it basically warps in a way that makes it very tough to get out?
@@lystic9392 there is one with harden bars. I still get through them though is harder. Anti snap have sacrificial snap point a point that you can no longer grip the lock.

@@lystic9392 no anti snap means when it breaks it does not give the burglar access to the cam so is unable to open the lock

Great video. Was very useful when I was replacing the lock mechanism on a flyscreen door and there was not enough room to try and release the lock with a knife blade. It certainly saved me a call to the locksmith...

Thanks for this. I could only squeeze fishing line in the gap but the cam wouldn't go up all the way so used a pair of vice grips on each side and it snapped easily. You saved me from calling a locksmith and the nearest is 100k's away. Huge thanks.

This is a prime example of why you should fit anti snap cylinders. This is how burglars do it.
After they've broken in to remove the inside cover plate.

This is also how burglars break in that's why you should really install anti snap euro cylinders
So you have lost the key to your 'anti-snap' euro lock. Please tell me, and the rest of the world, how you remove the lock other than drilling it out? My experience shows that burglars are more likely to use a crowbar that go to all the trouble of finding out if they can snap the lock.

Fantastic video and helped greatly. I would just like to add that I just could not get the little tag to turn round to open. So i used recip saw hacksaw to cut out the screw, which holds the eurolock in, which then fell out leaving the slot clear to just slide a new lock in, get it in position then open. This may help someone struggling like me! But the video was just fab thanks.

I managed to take it out and install a new cylinder however, the lock lever(Silver one) seems to be free. Keeps moving everywhere and my lock is actually not locking.

Ppl saying about burglars lol, all the handles I’ve ever fitted don’t have both handle screws on the outside, meaning they just as well smash a window.. great clip for ppl in trouble I’d say.
