Fun fact: unlike the other three ladies in this scene (Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Queen Elizabeth II), Alice was actually born in Windsor Castle.
I find it interesting that from the very beginning Queen Mary saw the inner strength of Elizabeth. While watching the series the Queen Mother questioned Elizabeth’s decision and attempted to meddle. But from before the beginning Mary could see that Elizabeth could hold her own. I wonder what Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth’s relationship was like in real life.
In real life, Phillip's mother Princess Alice did not wear a nun's habit at their wedding. She was the founder of a nursing order of Greek Orthodox nuns in 1949, and she did wear a nun's habit during Elizabeth's coronation in 1953.
The jumped up arrogance of Elizabeth, the Queen Consort is really annoying. She was only the daughter of a minor Scottish Aristocrat, whilst Philip was born a Prince and was directly related to Queen Victoria!
Come to think of it, prince Philips family really suffered. His family had to go in exile, when there was a military coup. Phillip himself was a toddler.
Prince Phillip’s mom was a badass! She could speak several languages despite being deaf. And helped house people from the Nazis! They did her so dirty in the series.
"You know why his sisters aren't here, they are all married to Nazi's prominent Nazi's" Churchill had no chill man. LOL. Also taking the photos in front of that background sounds a lot cheaper than what they do today.
Hard to believe that John Lithgow ( from the super funny show 3rd Rock from The Sun, as well as Lord Farquaad from Shrek) was Winston Churchill! Nice to seem him play a serious role!
Though the Queen Consort Elizabeth would always look down her nose at Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece, in actuality, her mother-in-law Queen Mary was sympathetic to her and had been close friends to her as well as her own mother Victoria, the Marchioness of Milford-Haven [who did live to witness her grandson's wedding to Elizabeth]. Funnily enough, after Prince Andrew of Greece's death in 1944, Queen Mary speculated that the breakdown in their union came from Alice letting the Orthodox religion go to her head 'like poor Alix of Russia' [her maternal aunt] and that Alice became 'too whacked for words!'
The show portray the queen mother horribly. Who knows if yhe woman was seriously this awful, but in this scene she was despicable. I could hardly suspend the disbelief thinking that she-maybe daughter of an earl, maybe of a french cook-would be saying those things about a british princess by birth, granddaughter of queen Victoria...
I wrote that Alice of Greece and Denmark was a saint, she hide a jewish Family in Athens from the Nazis so they were not deported. God bless her sleep 🌈❤️

Yeah sure in this show lol. But not in real life, sure he might’ve had some affairs which were not proven though. She alongside him , the both of them were the longest reigning monarch and consort in British history and that says a lot. Only around Prince Phillip could QEII be herself and he was the only one who treated her as a normal human being not shying away to give her constructive criticism, not sugar coating anything to get on her good side nor to please her. Excuse me but he, was rather an alpha man born, raised , grew and fought after and during the WWII , he was a man who gave up his titles , religion etc. just to marry the then Princess Elizabeth, he gave up his whole career which he fought hard to build up just to be an aid for QE II , he always stood, one step behind QE II for 7 decades, so please at least cut him a slack for that. He was a man capable of everything and if he should’ve wished for it he could’ve left her but he didn’t. Even before and after the marriage he was treated badly by the aristocrats and people in the court even his mother in law, just bc his sisters were married to Nazi’s and he used to be a Prince of a Kingdom which wasn’t no more in that constellation and penniless . When in fact he by blood was more royal then the most of them even more than his own wife. Yet he still played low and endured the hostility. People tend to forget that kind of abuse easily.
The way Elizabeth is SO nervous, and Phillip makes little facial expressions to encourage her and make her laugh 😍
This was so Sweet 🥰
That's what dad told him to do. She is the job.
Matt Smith, IMO, was the best Phillip in his demeanor, his walk, his expressions.

😂 That comment had me laughing up my morning coffee lol
The way they talk about Phillip's mother.... Who by birth outranked both Queen Mary and Queen Mother Elizabeth....
I think that “Hun” remark got under Mary’s skin, being German aristocracy by birth.
Prince Phillip’s mom was a badass! She could speak several languages despite being deaf. And helped house people from the Nazis! They did her so dirty in the series.
Both Alice of Battenberg and Mary of Teck were of morganatic origin - before marriage they were Serene Highnesses, not Royal.
Technically she did not outrank them at that point.
Mary was as English as anyone. @@matthewkrulitski8788

How is Mary, born in the Uk as was her mother and grandfather going back generations a hun?
And thus a dynamic duo was born⭐💛

How dare elizabeth and mary say anything about alice
Unlike the Queen Mother, Phillip's mother, Princess Alice was a princess by birth. And she sheltered a Jewish family in her home during the war.
Philip's mother only donned the habit AFTER the wedding. And she was not some frail doddering lady. Only two of many many inventions by the writers.
Churchill was being rather rude.
Ah, no. If I'm in a wedding and I see prominent Nazis, I will ALWAYS call them by their names
But funny af
