  • Want to know How to STOP Barking on the leash? In this dog training video Tom Davis works with a dog with dog reactivity issues and what Tom did was instead of focusing so much on the reactivity and how to stop the barking we taught a tighter heel on the leash. This will hopefully completely shut down the reactivity on the leash.

    These videos have changed my life. My husband and I recently adopted a 2 yr old GSD with serious reactivity issues. We saw several trainers with no success. After watching your videos and practicing these methods, we are finally seeing the true nature of our dog - happy, confident, obedient. THANK YOU for helping dogs and owners everywhere!

    My 1 year old German shepherd does the same thing but reacts to everything. Grasshopper, birds, people, dogs, cats, squirrels, snakes, rats, mice, flags, trains over a mile away.

    Great video! I have been watching for a while now and your videos have helped me immensely with my reactive Great Dane. Where do I go after he will ignore other dogs? How do I socialize him?

    Another way I have found to box him out is to use your left foot as the pivot foot, swing your right leg and walk into him. He then learns to respect you space

    Where do people get the idea that a dog understands what the word "good" means. It is assumed he understands because people talk to their dog. If they dont associate it with petting or a food reward, You could just as well say "bad dog" in a friendly manner and pet him and that would still be considered praise. Words have meaning to people. To dogs its association with certain behavior. I came across this when teaching my dog commands in a different language than its previous owners. The dog doesnt know what "good boy" is. The process of teaching the dog to react to those words is the same as teaching him a command. Association of the word with certain behavior.

    Hi would you do this in house then progress onto outside still on property before going out on lane?
    How do you get dog to look up at you off property, he will stop sit and maybe a slight glance( which I say good boy to) but he just sits looking everywhere around, I have a good relationship indoors & out on property, off property I don't really exist.. 😥

    Hi my GSD heels on my right side only Bc it was my preference what are your thoughts. ? And how do I prevent my dog from going crazzzzzzy when he sees my inside cat every now and then. Thanks !!! You are totally awesome 😎

      My boy heels on the right as well. I have issues with my left arm and shoulder. I decided I really don’t care what others might think. I’m not in any kind of competitions with him. He’s purely a companion dog so no worries.
      Annnd I have two cats. One is not intimidated and stands her ground with my GSD. She doesn’t budge and just stares. He does like to pick on my skittish cat. He chases him around the house . I’ve started training him with the “leave it “command . It works when I am in the same room, but if I leave for a few minutes the poor cats is In for it

    “You never give the dog pressure unless they know what they’re doing is wrong.” So how do we teach the dog that lunging and barking is wrong? Do we? Or do we just focus on replacing that behavior with a correct behavior instead?

    • @jh8094
      @jh8094 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If barking or lunging is wrong then that’s when you deliver the correction..

    I need him with Harley, I have to walk her with a prong collar to keep her from pulling/lunging/attacking another dog or person. She was raised in a stressful environment before I got her and I tried to train her when I got her at 4/5months but seems like she gotten worse T-T

    Im having issues with my 10 month old pit bull. He wants to go for a walk but as soon as we go out his tail is down and when people walk by us he starts pulling away from them. I can tell the second we are in new area he is so scared and ready to run away. Any advice would be appreciated. We go for walks almost every single day.

    My dog will bark when the door bell goes off, if there is something on tv he doesn’t like, a sounds he doesn’t like, heaven breathing. It can be dead quite in the apartment and he will go into a barking fit. How do I correct that?

    great video, his reactivity is JUST like my Shepard husky mix when out in public, he seems like he knows what heel is but then goes into crazy reactivity and forgets everything.
    This video pointed out a bunch of stuff I can work on together however, it seems like it needs to be a rock solid heel before you can work on reactivity?

    • @tomdavisofficial
      @tomdavisofficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mike Stock yes exactly, define your heel position and once you’ve mastered that, hit the road! Thanks for watching!

    If the dog is not on “heel” command, is it good idea to let the dog be in the front (without pulling)? Or should the dog always be by the heels

    • @57colliegirl

      Loose leash walking is what I prefer. Doing an entire walk in a tight heel , to me is unnatural and unfun for both my dog and me.

    Love your work. Confused why it seems you corrected at least twice and also said heel. In other instances you have told people not to do that at the same time. Am I misreading something or did you make a mistake? I know sometimes you say, “that was my mistake”

    one should give the command only once. if one repeatedly gives the command, the dogs not going to know when you REALLY mean it.
