    Ausschnitt aus der Übertragung "Carols from King's" von BBC Two am 24.12.2016
    A solo chorister sings Once In Royal David's City to begin the traditional celebration of Christmas from the Chapel of King's College, Cambridge.
    The world-famous choir, directed by Stephen Cleobury, sings a glorious selection of carols, including Ding! Dong! Merrily on High (Wilberg), The Holly and the Ivy, The Three Kings (Cornelius) and O Come All Ye Faithful.
    The Christmas story is told in the words of the King James Bible and in poems by Rowan Williams, Charles Causley and UA Fanthorpe.

    The glint on the boy's glasses makes it look like he has tears in his eyes.

    I have listened to this service for 40 years. This was the best solo first verse I have ever heard. Ethereal and an amazing presence of that young boy. He has a great career ahead of him.

      This is the best solo in several years. But I believe that the opening solo by Sam Landman in 2004 is in a class by itself; Sam's voice had an astonishing clarity and was delivered, without artifice, by a very advanced technique.

      Toledo1940 Sam was my favorite too, and Edmund (Edmund Rex) in 2000 was my second favorite.

    Beautifully sung as always. The moment the organ joins in, I get goosebumps and when the congregation joins in, the hairs are standing on end even before the end of the final verse.

      Exactly the same, I always get major goosebumps when the organ and congregation all join in, it’s such an amazing warm and familiar sound. Christmas has changed almost beyond recognition for me over the years, but this is the one constant thing that never changes, and I love it for that.

    Once in royal David's city
    Stood a lowly cattle shed
    Where a mother laid her baby
    In a manger for His bed:
    Mary was that mother mild
    Jesus Christ her little child
    He came down to earth from heaven
    Who is God and Lord of all
    And His shelter was a stable
    And His cradle was a stall;
    With the poor and meek and lowly
    Lived on earth our Savior holy
    And through all
    His wondrous childhood
    He would honor and obey
    Love and watch the lowly mother
    In whose gentle arms He lay
    Christian children all should be
    Mild, obedient, good as He
    For He is our child-hood's pattern
    Day by day like us He grew
    He was little, weak, and helpless
    Tears and smiles like us He knew
    And He feeleth for our sadness
    And He shareth in our gladness
    And our eyes at last shall see Him
    Through His own redeeming love;
    For that child so dear and gentle
    Is our Lord in heaven above
    And He leads His children on
    To the place where He is gone
    Not in that poor lowly stable
    With the oxen standing by
    We shall see Him, but in heaven
    Set at God's right hand on high;
    When like stars
    His children crowned
    All in white shall be around

      Chris Kioko Really belated happy birthday, Dr. Cleobury.
      Quote from a belated birthday card I bought:
      "I USED TO JUST CRASTINATE,
      BUT THEN I DECIDED TO GO PRO."
      (I gave that card to my best friend last month and we both think it is hilarious)
      By the way, although I loved all the traditional carols, my most favorite was, of course, O Little Town of Bethlehem.
      I LOVE FOREST GREEN!Yeaaaaaaah!
