This. This is what Nobuo heard when he wrote it. This is what we all heard when we played ff6. This is what made us cry like dorks to a midi file and not care. Damn, that man can write music.
The whole soundtrack is like an opera with its character motifs, which makes perfect sense since the music has to carry the emotions of the characters without graphics
Oh, you know he had this already in the works before there was even the idea of a FF6. It probably went like this: "can we get you to compose the music?" Nobuo: "only if I get to write an Opera."
This was a masterful performance by Sabina Zweiacker and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra~ ... and to think the entire time an Octopus was up in the rafters up to no good. I'm glad no one got hurt.
Tour de Japon was incredible except for the soprano playing Maria / Celes (which was a bit lackluster imho). In all honesty, Sabina Zweiacker's rendition is probably the best take on the part.

Please, no. Pixel graphics were part of the charm, and part of our memories. I don't want lifelike animations I can't empathize with because they'll look fake.
Be glad they're not doing it. They'd probably let Susan Calloway sing it and she's absolutely horrible at singing anything other than Answers (and even that song has better fan covers).
FFVI remake didn't happen... it was just a graphics bump and able to do all the extra that was in the game boy advance version. A pure remake would look like FFXV and be insane... but wouldn't work because the battle system just might kill the nostalgia since it's no longer turn based.

FINALLY go to hear this live this past February at SCORE 2023 - they didn't play it as an encore in 2017! I'd like to say that I sat there stoically and took it all in, but that would be a lie. I cried. I cried my god damned eyes out. Nearly 3 decades since playing the original game, and over half a decade since knowing that SRSO even did a cover of it, that was a *lot* of emotion that night.
@@oliverstaunton10 Yes, he is impressed a foreigner musicians would play a Japanese music from video game on the stage professionally and beautifully. It show that video games are universally loved.
I have had the great pleasure of meeting Nobuo Uematsu when I was in Korea during the Piano Collection concert. There I was, a foreigner who spoke the language at a basic level, watching a Japanese man explain things in Japanese while being translated to Korean. I only understood parts of the talk, but I was there for the music. And it was worth it. The man is a genius. He wrote the soundtrack to my youth. Long live Nobuo Uematsu!
You missed out, unfortunately my copy of 6 disappeared after moving out of my mothers house, I still had the box and manual and bought a cart only version. Great game!

In my opinion this song theme really fit Celes. She was this tough general working for the empire. Deep in her heart she knew somewhere the things they did were wrong. Inside she needed a hero to help her escape and rescue her.
Even in the game, without vocals and the limitations of the hardware, this wasn't just a Piece of in-game music... It was majestic... And this performance was stunning, gave me goosebumps and left me speechless... Bravissimo!!!!!
I remember listening to this over and over and over on my SNES as a little boy and being swept away with the aching sincerity of it, meaning that for me this rendition is truly a boyhood dream made real. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Her mastery of legato in an area of the voice that might be troublesome is nothing short of amazing! She could do bel canto literature. And, the music is so beautiful! I really wish there was sheet music for voice and piano. I would love to sing this in my voice lessons! Thanks so much for posting this video!
This is a genuinely moving interpretation! The melody is joyous & melancholy at the same time, & this arrangement in particular is beautifully performed by vocalist & orchestra. No matter the language or how many covers exist, I am always swept up by its emotional core. It's hard to believe the music was composed for such an unexpected scene in one of my favorite video games of all time! Thanks for sharing.
I cannot love this enough. This was apart of my childhood and thank you so much to the symphony and Sabina for giving this song another life, love you, you incredible genius Nobuo Uematsu.
SkyHazel I think the point is showing the clear difference between a video game character doing a thing, and a person actually singing opera, and how difficult it would be. Technically she did this in the game, but she also used her sword to nullify magic attacks. :P
in truth we dont know how Celes spent her private time, its likely she sang to herself or in practice. She wasn't born a General in the service of the Empire, she became that, who knows what her original aspirations were.
I don't know how many times I've watched this. When she reaches the highest note at the end it's so emotional and beautiful I always tear up. And this upcoming February I'm going to see and hear this wonderful singer live singing songs from games like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Hats off to the professional musicians that brought this master piece to it's true form. Epic isn't even a word that can describe this breath taking adventure. Thank you to the musicians and the people that made this possible.
I just really, really love this song. This is what comes to mind when i think of FF6 music, more than any other track. It perfectly encapsulates the sense of love, loss and remembrance that each character has.
How powerful is this, that a grown man is reduced to bawling like a little baby? Words simply cannot describe the feelings that this conveys. Thank you so much.
I love all the newer orchestrated versions of older video game music. It is amazing to hear what the composer heard in their mind vs the limitations of older sound systems.

This is AMAZING don’t get me wrong. Her performance will bring tears to your eyes. But, it KILLS me that the horn wasn’t included in this version, because it was such a big part of the tempo in the midi. It’s such a needed and integral part of the song and it’s missiiiiinnng 😭

I like how they drag Celes into the only opera house in the world and expect her to just be an opera singer. Must be the magicite infusion in her vocal chords.
She likely knows how to project her voice quite powerfully. Though she also sings it in a much lower register than this. It's kinda weird how all the vocal versions have such a high soprano when the original isn't that high.
More than half of the plot elements in FF6 were forced like that. Video game logic, not cinema logic, was in play there. Gotta roll with it or there wouldn't be a game!
@@BJGvideos ikr. It should be a dramatic soprano. But thats probably why you see so many lyric sopranos covering this. Dramatic sopranos are very rare.
@@mezlabor Dramatic sopranos? Lyric sopranos? I just know regular and mezzo soprano, and something like "coltura" but I know that's not right... I mean as opposed to an alto or something.
@@BJGvideos so yea you have alto mezzo and soprano. Then soprano is broken down into different parts, lyric, light lyic, coltura, dramatic etc. A dramatic soprano is a type of operatic soprano with a powerful, rich, emotive voice that can sing over, or cut through, a full orchestra. Thicker vocal folds in dramatic voices usually (but not always) mean less agility than lighter voices but a sustained, fuller sound. Usually this voice has a lower tessitura than other sopranos, and a darker timbre. They are often used for heroic, often long-suffering, tragic women of opera. Dramatic sopranos have a range from approximately low A (A3) to "high C" (C6)

Always brings a tear to my eye.
