In theory you don't need the visual aids as I narrate everything as I go, but they're there for those that want to pause the video and read the actual rule from the rulebook. @@AJBlack , the one we use is by Shoobie... 2 pages, and comes right up in a google search... we also used the GW roster generator, to make a roster sheet, then plugged that into the Battlescribe app and played with the output options to get a printout that we liked the layout of... also you can export the battlescribe info into the Companion app for kill team, and use that for a very handy way to track what tactics you can spend your CP on, it will even list what are available to you and your specific models, per phase... All of this is free, aside from some printer ink, and between the cheat sheet, battlescribe printout, and the companion app, we have been helped out a lot... best of luck to you.
This is probably the clearest and most well explained rules video I've ever watched. It is very quick-paced (and I've just read in the comments that you advise viewers to pause the video and read the instructions provided for clarity), but as a complete newbie to playing table top games, what I struggle with most is comprehending the scores: Save 3, plus or minus 1, roll two D6, 4 to save - or whatever. Perhaps a visual calculation would help, because by the time I've visualised the calculation, the narrative has moved on a pace. But that's just me, and honestly, you've done a great job explaining so much in such a short video. I'll definitely have to watch it again, and maybe again, before the penny finally drops!
Thanks! There are definitely a few issues. A lack of structure and explanation in the beginning is one of them. When the next Kill Team releases and I redo this, I'll definitely work to make it a little bit easier to follow, but it's still going to be very fast and most likely require multiple viewings. A learn to play should NOT be 40+ minutes imo
That's an impressive amount of information to cover in 20 minutes. I'm glad you pointed out in a comment that this is meant to be the sort of thing you can go back and reference as opposed to being intended to teach it all in a single go, as I think it would be really tricky for a raw beginner to watch any video straight through and really understand how to play. I think this will definitely help folks who have read the rules, but need an in-game example of how various things work.
Yeah, I mean, if you're REALLY good at absorbing rules then this video will teach you to play KT. But because there's so much on screen, it's not really realistic to expect someone to take EVERYTHING in. At the same time though, all of the datasheets and rules I throw on screen are not actually needed. I say all the rules out loud, and having the screen be so busy was just to "help" but of course it also hinders a certain sense. But I figured, belt and braces, get it all on screen, let the people take from it what they want. Equally, could probably mute the video and still get most of the rules.
Hey, great video! I am relatively new to killteam (been playing for 6 months), but have some constructive criticism on how to teach the game. I find that people interpret and retain information better when they have a framework to place it in. It may help to briefly (30-45 seconds) explain the progression of a battle round prior to walking through your example (initiative->move->psychic->shoot->moral). During the example you could have a graphic on the side of the screen that displays the phases and indicates the one currently active. Maybe have another graphic that steps through the various actions within a turn when they are being done (Shooting with a model select model->select weapon->select target->roll for hit-> etc.). I have used this method to teach both killteam and mtg to people and found a lot of success. I have taken to requesting an outline of turn structure before any other information when learning a new game. Just a thought from an amateur who loves your videos 😊

I thought that you had to roll for ALL weapons on a charge including weapons that you don't normally have to roll for. Learned something new! AWESOME thanks.
Ooh, hold up now. If you're referring to the flamer, as I said in the video that DOES auto hit even in overwatch. The rolling sequence for that is a D6 to determine the NUMBER OF HITS. The you roll to wound. There's no hit roll for auto hitting weapons like flamers :)

Excellent. Thanks so much for this. I've been playing KT/watching your vids for about 6 months, and you've really helped to clarify some of the rules for me. Two areas I still find slightly confusing are the Consolidate and Pile-in function. I think I get them, but the rule book is pretty poor at giving examples and nuanced details. You have done a video on charging and areas of control, which was very useful, but personally I'd love a 10 min vid on the whole charge cycle including Pile-in and Consolidate. I've played with a few people, and I think these are two of the main areas that confuse players, as they are both readily used in game, and even though they seem simple can throw up some challenging scenarios (especially for those of us who don't play big 40K). Keep up the good work!
Happy to help and try to grow the community :D Consolidate and Pile in and when/what attacking is legal is pretty complicated. I agree that I need to do a video covering all of it. That will definitely require a script and a lot of thought! It's always a tough one because I have to question how many people really want an indepth guide, because it would be a lot of work but might get sub-1k views, then it just feels sucky. So I'll have to think of how to market it because it's pretty niche. I'll think on it!

You’ve already vastly helped my understanding of the game. Speaking of lawyer rules, I actually work for one of the major law firms, and am prone to the odd bit of OCD legalese, to a point where I was so frustrated by the rule book that I actually re-wrote it. Instead of a lengthy time consuming video, how about I just give you my interpretation of both areas of the game below? Pile-in: This is NOT to be used by a model who has failed a charge, in fact models who have failed their charge cannot attack in the Fight Phase unless an enemy model makes a concious choice to successfully counter charge or uses consolidation to bring themselves into 1’’ of the failed charging model. Pile-in is a tactical move and a useful way to swamp targets (if multiple friendly models surround an enemy it may be impossible to retreat or fall back) and therefore get a positional advantage. In essence it’s a consolidation move without having to kill an enemy model. Consolidating: The consolidating model may attack again in that Fight Phase if it reaches within 1’’ an enemy model, but ONLY if it has any attacks left to use. This can be a useful tactic if you have a strong combat model and are confident you can take an opponent out with one attack, leaving you the ability to move on to the next model (provided they are within 3’’ of course) The defending model may also attack in that same Fight Phase (again, as long as it has any attacks left). Consolidation is a valuable strategic positional move to place your models closer to a target in the next round of play, especially if the model can make contact as it means they don’t have to chance a charge/suffer an overwatch. Consolidation should be seen as the ‘adrenaline rush’ models get from combat, and the ability of faster /stronger models to dance or smash their way through enemy ranks. Am I off the mark here? I’d appreciate your feedback. Cheers.

I got annoyed at KT as nothing was being killed, until I watched this video and realised I was rolling 1 die for injury when it should have been 1 die per damage! No wonder it took ages to actually table a model, PLUS I didn't add the Flesh Wound modifier which makes it tougher for said model to survive. THANK YOU
Very informative - thanks. I found it a bit easier to follow in this one game turn format as opposed to some of the other rules clarifications videos where they are a bit less context for the rule.
I had considered continuing the video and running through the second turn much faster, but ultimately decided it wouldn't really add anything to the actual learning of rules. Glad it was the right choice :)

GW should hire you to write their rules for KT 2.0. The rule book is a convoluted mess. Playing with a translated version of the book makes it even worse. Thanks for video :)
Trying to learn an entire game with a 20 minute video can be really tough! I'd recommend, now that you've watched this video, track down a Kill Team One Page Reference sheet, and play through it using that as a turn guide. Take it slow, and accept you first few games are going to be slow, but that it speeds up soon enough :)
Im so close to investing in kill team. But im quite antisocial and am lacking anyone to play with lol. I am working on persuading my brother. This is just an idea linking to this video which was very informative but id really like to see a full battle report style video with a step by step voice over like this.
@@jesubudallah I actually intend to start doing exactly that with my channel. It wouldn't be AS in depth, that's simply too much. But whenever a gun is shot or 2 guys fight, flash up the relevant datasheets etc. Focusing more on strategy than beginner stuff, but still being beginner friendly. A sort of "Kill Team in 15" type thing. Undecided on exact specifics just yet,

I think it's a great secondary game, even if you still want to play with the big toys of full 40K. I mean, obviously I think it's BETTER purely because of the roster and alternating activations, but I mean there's a REASON, even if it's not for everyone.

@@GlassHalfDead Oh, it might just come down to familiarity and what games I grew up with, so I'm totally aware how subjective this is. But I often feel that the bigger the scale of the game, the worse it works with alternating activation patterns. In Skirmish level games, you usually deal with between 6 and 14 activations (plus give or take a few, depending on game and armies). But 40k can vary widely in the number of units and thus activations (especially since super-heavies, Knights, etc. have become a more common sight). So you could deal with an horde army that fights 3 Knights. And since alternating game styles usually have mechanics that revolve around that playstyle, it can seriously throw one side out of the loop if it has siginificantly less activations than the other, enabling easy bait and decoy tactics and playing it safe for the horde. But it might also just be me, slowly getting old and cranky. I'm fully aware of that possibilty ;)
Great video I'm only a few weeks into kill team so still trying to take it all in n watched this several times which is helping massively. Im unsure though at 7:50 should the electro-priest save on a 6+ not 5, wanna make sure I'm not missing something?
Note that the Omnispex removes the cover penalty to injury rolls as well as hit rolls. Not that it would have made any difference with the injury roll made at 14:00ish, but you said in your voice over at that point that a 5 was needed to get an out of action result, whereas because of the Omnispex a 4 would have sufficed.

In case it's something I'm getting wrong, too. :-) (I did realise that the Tempestor isn't issuing orders and the AdMech aren't doing their Canticles, both of which are core book rules, but that seems not so much like a mistake but rather something not worth going into when you're just trying to demonstrate the core game mechanics. And Ruststalker stats are shown for the Vanguard Alpha partway through the fight phase, but that doesn't actually affect anything.)
@@anotherzingbo Gosh, well I hadn't noticed I messed up the datasheet timing, oops. And yeah, I wasn't counting orders etc. that's too much to add to the video. I called out the Tempestor as hitting on 3s with a -1 from the power fist making it 4s. He's actually normally hitting on 4s, so should have been hitting on 5s. No biggie, and the correct datasheet was in place, and it's not a fundamental messing up of a core rule.
It was confusing to me too but I think when looking around the rule is that you can't shoot WITH models within 1" of an enemy model. It sounded like he said "cannot shoot AT models within 1" of an enemy model". He reiterates this rule at 17:33 when he says that pistols are the only ranged weapons which CAN be shot while within 1" of an enemy model. Edit: He definitely said AT but that was a mistake I think
I bought kill team two years ago on release, and have been painting it since (on and off as not much spare time). I still have one scenery piece (the largest) and one tyranid left to paint. I didn't bother using the minis that came with it, as I preferred primaris and tyranids. I just hope I actually enjoy the game after all the hard work 😂 Ps last games workshop game I played was space crusade and heroquest 30 years ago!

A great suggestion, adding in the psychic phase would help. I definitely made a few critical mistakes in the structure of this video, but as soon as we've got a new edition this will be the first video I work on, hopefully fixing all the issues :)

I believe (hope?!) I picked my words very carefully and used this exact example to show how the injury roll works. The injury roll is ALWAYS (no matter what happened before!) the damage characteristic of the weapon. A 1 damage weapon (like a bolter or lasgun or flamer) will only ever roll 1 dice for the injury roll. A 3 damage weapon will roll 3 dice for the injury roll no matter what came before. the injury roll is related to the damage characteristic not the number of shots!
@@GlassHalfDead I understand that part. But i still thought you make several injury rolls. If a 2 shot bolter, both wound and saves are failed. Then you roll a 1 die injury roll. Resolve it. Then roll a second 1 die injury roll for the subsequent hit. Then resolve that one. This is how i thought multi hits worked.
Yeah, I think he showed the wrong statline. The model should be a Vanguard Alpha, but he showed the stats of Sicarian Ruststalkers. If you check at 2:57 you can see the Vanguard stats, which shows a WS (Weapon Skill) stat of 4+ (which is your "to Hit" in CC) and an A (Attack) Value of 2, which is the number of attacks.

Great video, love the colour scheme of the scions. The tempestor should of been hitting on a 4 in combat as his ws is 3+ not 4+ this was a mistake i was making too until recently.
I asked about this in another comment to someone else's question about charging.... but I thought on a failed charge, you could move any distance up to the charge distance rolled....but it had to be directly towards the charge target...
Just read through the designer's commentary again, and I believe that clears it up... you're totally right, the part about "as close as possible" doesn't just mean directly towards the target, but also basically means the full distance...
Ironically the thing that gave me most trouble when I started playing was reading the stats: the ballistic skill vs weapon profile, Strength vs number of attacks and weapon types (pistol, Heavy, etc), DX number of attacks, saves vs AP, all that. I think that was the stuff that gave me the most issue and made the matches much longer until you internalize it all, and honestly the rulebook isn't that well written. Pile-In and Consolidate is also a tad confusing, with the Injury Rolls as well.

It's not the best written rulebook the world has ever seen, but like all games, if you have someone to guide you through your first 2 games, you'll get it all figured out pretty quickly apart from fringe cases!

Hey there. Yes, so every team has a maximum number of models you can have on the board at any time. 20. In reality, most factions naturally top out at about 15 assuming they're taking anything more than just their most basic unit :)

Question: Say if your dude is on a 2nd floor with walls and is as close as possible to a window (let's pretend he's pointing his gun at a fully exposed target down below) would the shot be obscured since technically your own model is obscured from the torso down in relation to the target? Or do we determine this as "The shooter's EYEsight -vs- the entirety of the enemy model"? Or is there a rule I skipped that states "if your unit is within 1" of partial cover it doesn't count towards obscurity rules when shooting an enemy".? 3 examples to make this question simple: 1) The Shooter and Target are 12" appart, there's a barrier at the half-way point (6" away from either of them). Target counts as obscured since Shooter can't see his feet. 2) The Shooter and Target are 12" appart, there's a barrier between them but less than 1" away from the Target (AKA Target behind cover). Target counts as obscured since Shooter can only see his head. 3) The Shooter and Target are 12" appart, there's a barrier between them but less than 1" away from the Shooter. (AKA Shooter behind cover). What would the rule be here?

@@GlassHalfDead Thanks. So according to that, if I were the Necron at 3:38, or the Vanguard at 1:59 in that video (aiming at a fully exposed Target) the shot would still be -1 to hit because my Necron's/Vanguard's feet are obscured from the Target's perspective?
At 20:18 when you roll the D6 and half it, if you roll 5, shouldn't that result be 2 rather than 3 (2.5). I never played a game where the rounding is made upwards.
So that was me simplifying how you roll a D3. We're not ACTUALLY rolling a D6 and halving it, we're rolling a D3 using a D6. So 1-2 is a 1, 3-4 is a 2, 5-6 is a 3 :)
Yes, this is the how to play for the edition that is up in full on Wahapedia! It is easier to learn than the latest edition, and is closer to 40k if you're looking to uprade to that at some point :)
Man I wish I'd found out about this pre-pandemic. I was intimidated by the cost of WH40K but this looks a LOT more financially manageable. Doesn't help that I really want to play IG
I feel like this should play more like Battletech. Players alternate moving models and then alternate shooting. But all damage occurs simultaneously. The rules as written seem like they would give too much advantage to the player that goes 1st, but I haven't played Kill Team or 40k yet...
I actually like the concept of all damage happening at the end. However, KT typically gives a huge advantage to whoever goes SECOND. Knowing where your enemy has moved so that you can position is supoer powerful. Stop them from getting the shots they want and focus your fire against the models you want to kill etc.
Have been playing Warcry recently, really, it‘s still movement phase and already 1000+ dice rolls and special abilities 👌🏽I might as well consider a second playthrough of AC Odyssey 😅
Hi charles. The Kill team Starter set comes with models and terrain. Not the models and terrain you see in this video, as this game is all about collecting the exact things you want, but it works. The starter set is a good place to start but I would struggle to call it a self contained one-off purchase :)

When I use tactic that allows me to atack again (Like GSC Industrial Brutality) Does the second attack must be done against charged model if I charged this round? Or I can choose another target?
You still need to attack a valid target, yes. The restrictions on who you're allowed to attack remain until the round ends, typically. This isn't always true and there might be wording on a tactic that breaks that.

Tau have drones, drones say they are not part of kill team. Does that mean I don't count them when shaken or taken out of action? And do they not count for breaking if i lost a bunch of drones? Do they still count for a 20 list t Roster?
Not quite, so, the text says that drones "are not part of a fire team". That doesn't mean they're not in your kill team. A fire team is only something we care about for narrative games, so you can ignore that line. Drones count fully for your morale tests etc. You still have to add any drones (and the turret) to your 20man roster just like it was any other model. They're basically just like any other normal model, except for narrative play, they don't receive or provide experience for your team.
I wouldn't feel comfortable doing one until I had played it plenty of times. Sadly, right now I'm focusing on 40K 9th as I don't have the minis to play Apoc correctly. One day though!
What happens if neither model in combat dies? Do they just move like normal next turn? couldn't find this in the book and it came up in last nights game.
If neither model dies then in the next movement phase you can decide to stay where you are (so you will fight again in the next combat phase) or you can make a Fall Back move. This is a normal move that must end outside of 1" from an enemy model. If you do this, you cannot shoot. The person that was fallen back from can then choose to also Fall Back OR they can stand still but keep the option of shooting that turn.
Is there one of these for elites and commanders? I think we might get some things wrong since we play with this and the core book as a template to try and learn how to play but we use a wider range of units/models and such then are "allowed" in the core book. And out of like 5-6 games so far I've won by to big a margin it feels like
Well the core rules for the game don't change with Elites or Commanders. In this video I'm using a unit from the Elites book, in fact. I didn't include sufactions or commanders purely because I wanted to keep it short and to the point, not because they were "extra" rules. Which faction are you running versus which faction are they running? That will have a huge impact on how balanced the game is if everyone is always running the same few factions.

I think this will definitely help folks who have read the rules, but need an in-game example of how various things work.
Yeah, I mean, if you're REALLY good at absorbing rules then this video will teach you to play KT. But because there's so much on screen, it's not really realistic to expect someone to take EVERYTHING in. At the same time though, all of the datasheets and rules I throw on screen are not actually needed. I say all the rules out loud, and having the screen be so busy was just to "help" but of course it also hinders a certain sense. But I figured, belt and braces, get it all on screen, let the people take from it what they want. Equally, could probably mute the video and still get most of the rules.
Totally used this to show my 11 year old how to play, she picked up on it good enough to not be scared to play and learn while playing! Thanks!
Hey, great video! I am relatively new to killteam (been playing for 6 months), but have some constructive criticism on how to teach the game. I find that people interpret and retain information better when they have a framework to place it in. It may help to briefly (30-45 seconds) explain the progression of a battle round prior to walking through your example (initiative->move->psychic->shoot->moral). During the example you could have a graphic on the side of the screen that displays the phases and indicates the one currently active. Maybe have another graphic that steps through the various actions within a turn when they are being done (Shooting with a model select model->select weapon->select target->roll for hit-> etc.). I have used this method to teach both killteam and mtg to people and found a lot of success. I have taken to requesting an outline of turn structure before any other information when learning a new game.

Ooh, hold up now. If you're referring to the flamer, as I said in the video that DOES auto hit even in overwatch. The rolling sequence for that is a D6 to determine the NUMBER OF HITS. The you roll to wound. There's no hit roll for auto hitting weapons like flamers :)

Excellent. Thanks so much for this. I've been playing KT/watching your vids for about 6 months, and you've really helped to clarify some of the rules for me.
Two areas I still find slightly confusing are the Consolidate and Pile-in function. I think I get them, but the rule book is pretty poor at giving examples and nuanced details. You have done a video on charging and areas of control, which was very useful, but personally I'd love a 10 min vid on the whole charge cycle including Pile-in and Consolidate. I've played with a few people, and I think these are two of the main areas that confuse players, as they are both readily used in game, and even though they seem simple can throw up some challenging scenarios (especially for those of us who don't play big 40K). Keep up the good work!

Consolidate and Pile in and when/what attacking is legal is pretty complicated. I agree that I need to do a video covering all of it. That will definitely require a script and a lot of thought! It's always a tough one because I have to question how many people really want an indepth guide, because it would be a lot of work but might get sub-1k views, then it just feels sucky.
So I'll have to think of how to market it because it's pretty niche. I'll think on it!

Speaking of lawyer rules, I actually work for one of the major law firms, and am prone to the odd bit of OCD legalese, to a point where I was so frustrated by the rule book that I actually re-wrote it. Instead of a lengthy time consuming video, how about I just give you my interpretation of both areas of the game below?
Pile-in: This is NOT to be used by a model who has failed a charge, in fact models who have failed their charge cannot attack in the Fight Phase unless an enemy model makes a concious choice to successfully counter charge or uses consolidation to bring themselves into 1’’ of the failed charging model. Pile-in is a tactical move and a useful way to swamp targets (if multiple friendly models surround an enemy it may be impossible to retreat or fall back) and therefore get a positional advantage. In essence it’s a consolidation move without having to kill an enemy model.
Consolidating: The consolidating model may attack again in that Fight Phase if it reaches within 1’’ an enemy model, but ONLY if it has any attacks left to use. This can be a useful tactic if you have a strong combat model and are confident you can take an opponent out with one attack, leaving you the ability to move on to the next model (provided they are within 3’’ of course) The defending model may also attack in that same Fight Phase (again, as long as it has any attacks left). Consolidation is a valuable strategic positional move to place your models closer to a target in the next round of play, especially if the model can make contact as it means they don’t have to chance a charge/suffer an overwatch. Consolidation should be seen as the ‘adrenaline rush’ models get from combat, and the ability of faster /stronger models to dance or smash their way through enemy ranks.

I got annoyed at KT as nothing was being killed, until I watched this video and realised I was rolling 1 die for injury when it should have been 1 die per damage! No wonder it took ages to actually table a model, PLUS I didn't add the Flesh Wound modifier which makes it tougher for said model to survive. THANK YOU
Very informative - thanks. I found it a bit easier to follow in this one game turn format as opposed to some of the other rules clarifications videos where they are a bit less context for the rule.
I had considered continuing the video and running through the second turn much faster, but ultimately decided it wouldn't really add anything to the actual learning of rules. Glad it was the right choice :)

Trying to learn an entire game with a 20 minute video can be really tough! I'd recommend, now that you've watched this video, track down a Kill Team One Page Reference sheet, and play through it using that as a turn guide. Take it slow, and accept you first few games are going to be slow, but that it speeds up soon enough :)

@@jesubudallah I actually intend to start doing exactly that with my channel. It wouldn't be AS in depth, that's simply too much. But whenever a gun is shot or 2 guys fight, flash up the relevant datasheets etc.
Focusing more on strategy than beginner stuff, but still being beginner friendly. A sort of "Kill Team in 15" type thing.

I think it's a great secondary game, even if you still want to play with the big toys of full 40K. I mean, obviously I think it's BETTER purely because of the roster and alternating activations, but I mean there's a REASON, even if it's not for everyone.

@@GlassHalfDead Oh, it might just come down to familiarity and what games I grew up with, so I'm totally aware how subjective this is. But I often feel that the bigger the scale of the game, the worse it works with alternating activation patterns. In Skirmish level games, you usually deal with between 6 and 14 activations (plus give or take a few, depending on game and armies). But 40k can vary widely in the number of units and thus activations (especially since super-heavies, Knights, etc. have become a more common sight). So you could deal with an horde army that fights 3 Knights. And since alternating game styles usually have mechanics that revolve around that playstyle, it can seriously throw one side out of the loop if it has siginificantly less activations than the other, enabling easy bait and decoy tactics and playing it safe for the horde.
But it might also just be me, slowly getting old and cranky. I'm fully aware of that possibilty ;)
Great video I'm only a few weeks into kill team so still trying to take it all in n watched this several times which is helping massively. Im unsure though at 7:50 should the electro-priest save on a 6+ not 5, wanna make sure I'm not missing something?
Note that the Omnispex removes the cover penalty to injury rolls as well as hit rolls. Not that it would have made any difference with the injury roll made at 14:00ish, but you said in your voice over at that point that a 5 was needed to get an out of action result, whereas because of the Omnispex a 4 would have sufficed.

(I did realise that the Tempestor isn't issuing orders and the AdMech aren't doing their Canticles, both of which are core book rules, but that seems not so much like a mistake but rather something not worth going into when you're just trying to demonstrate the core game mechanics. And Ruststalker stats are shown for the Vanguard Alpha partway through the fight phase, but that doesn't actually affect anything.)
@@anotherzingbo Gosh, well I hadn't noticed I messed up the datasheet timing, oops. And yeah, I wasn't counting orders etc. that's too much to add to the video. I called out the Tempestor as hitting on 3s with a -1 from the power fist making it 4s. He's actually normally hitting on 4s, so should have been hitting on 5s. No biggie, and the correct datasheet was in place, and it's not a fundamental messing up of a core rule.
17:07 not sure if this has been pointed out but the correct rule is "You cannot shoot at models within 1 inch of a FRIENDLY model."
It was confusing to me too but I think when looking around the rule is that you can't shoot WITH models within 1" of an enemy model. It sounded like he said "cannot shoot AT models within 1" of an enemy model". He reiterates this rule at 17:33 when he says that pistols are the only ranged weapons which CAN be shot while within 1" of an enemy model.

I bought kill team two years ago on release, and have been painting it since (on and off as not much spare time). I still have one scenery piece (the largest) and one tyranid left to paint. I didn't bother using the minis that came with it, as I preferred primaris and tyranids. I just hope I actually enjoy the game after all the hard work 😂 Ps last games workshop game I played was space crusade and heroquest 30 years ago!

@6:25 The model has taken 6 wounds. Shouldnt we have rolled 6 rolls for the injury seperately, instead of 1? (1 for each hit) Great video btw!
I believe (hope?!) I picked my words very carefully and used this exact example to show how the injury roll works. The injury roll is ALWAYS (no matter what happened before!) the damage characteristic of the weapon. A 1 damage weapon (like a bolter or lasgun or flamer) will only ever roll 1 dice for the injury roll. A 3 damage weapon will roll 3 dice for the injury roll no matter what came before.
the injury roll is related to the damage characteristic not the number of shots!
@@GlassHalfDead I understand that part. But i still thought you make several injury rolls. If a 2 shot bolter, both wound and saves are failed. Then you roll a 1 die injury roll. Resolve it. Then roll a second 1 die injury roll for the subsequent hit. Then resolve that one. This is how i thought multi hits worked.
18:07 I got a little confused. Which stat shown determines his 4+ hit and which one determines # of hits?
Yeah, I think he showed the wrong statline. The model should be a Vanguard Alpha, but he showed the stats of Sicarian Ruststalkers. If you check at 2:57 you can see the Vanguard stats, which shows a WS (Weapon Skill) stat of 4+ (which is your "to Hit" in CC) and an A (Attack) Value of 2, which is the number of attacks.

I asked about this in another comment to someone else's question about charging.... but I thought on a failed charge, you could move any distance up to the charge distance rolled....but it had to be directly towards the charge target...
Just read through the designer's commentary again, and I believe that clears it up... you're totally right, the part about "as close as possible" doesn't just mean directly towards the target, but also basically means the full distance...

Ironically the thing that gave me most trouble when I started playing was reading the stats: the ballistic skill vs weapon profile, Strength vs number of attacks and weapon types (pistol, Heavy, etc), DX number of attacks, saves vs AP, all that. I think that was the stuff that gave me the most issue and made the matches much longer until you internalize it all, and honestly the rulebook isn't that well written. Pile-In and Consolidate is also a tad confusing, with the Injury Rolls as well.
This was so helpful, def cleared up a bunch of things.

It's not the best written rulebook the world has ever seen, but like all games, if you have someone to guide you through your first 2 games, you'll get it all figured out pretty quickly apart from fringe cases!

Hey there. Yes, so every team has a maximum number of models you can have on the board at any time. 20. In reality, most factions naturally top out at about 15 assuming they're taking anything more than just their most basic unit :)

Question: Say if your dude is on a 2nd floor with walls and is as close as possible to a window (let's pretend he's pointing his gun at a fully exposed target down below) would the shot be obscured since technically your own model is obscured from the torso down in relation to the target? Or do we determine this as "The shooter's EYEsight -vs- the entirety of the enemy model"? Or is there a rule I skipped that states "if your unit is within 1" of partial cover it doesn't count towards obscurity rules when shooting an enemy".?
3 examples to make this question simple:
1) The Shooter and Target are 12" appart, there's a barrier at the half-way point (6" away from either of them). Target counts as obscured since Shooter can't see his feet.
2) The Shooter and Target are 12" appart, there's a barrier between them but less than 1" away from the Target (AKA Target behind cover). Target counts as obscured since Shooter can only see his head.

the shooter in the window is not obscured... anyone shooting at him is.
At 20:18 when you roll the D6 and half it, if you roll 5, shouldn't that result be 2 rather than 3 (2.5). I never played a game where the rounding is made upwards.
So that was me simplifying how you roll a D3. We're not ACTUALLY rolling a D6 and halving it, we're rolling a D3 using a D6. So 1-2 is a 1, 3-4 is a 2, 5-6 is a 3 :)

I feel like this should play more like Battletech. Players alternate moving models and then alternate shooting. But all damage occurs simultaneously. The rules as written seem like they would give too much advantage to the player that goes 1st, but I haven't played Kill Team or 40k yet...
I actually like the concept of all damage happening at the end. However, KT typically gives a huge advantage to whoever goes SECOND. Knowing where your enemy has moved so that you can position is supoer powerful. Stop them from getting the shots they want and focus your fire against the models you want to kill etc.

Hi charles. The Kill team Starter set comes with models and terrain. Not the models and terrain you see in this video, as this game is all about collecting the exact things you want, but it works. The starter set is a good place to start but I would struggle to call it a self contained one-off purchase :)

You still need to attack a valid target, yes. The restrictions on who you're allowed to attack remain until the round ends, typically. This isn't always true and there might be wording on a tactic that breaks that.

They're pretty cool, I won't lie! But they come from America so doing isn't great. For alternatives, check out my last 2 kill team battle reports where I use funky neon looking stat markers instead as they come from England so might be cheaper.

Tau have drones, drones say they are not part of kill team. Does that mean I don't count them when shaken or taken out of action? And do they not count for breaking if i lost a bunch of drones? Do they still count for a 20 list t

Not quite, so, the text says that drones "are not part of a fire team". That doesn't mean they're not in your kill team. A fire team is only something we care about for narrative games, so you can ignore that line.
Drones count fully for your morale tests etc. You still have to add any drones (and the turret) to your 20man roster just like it was any other model.
They're basically just like any other normal model, except for narrative play, they don't receive or provide experience for your team.

I wouldn't feel comfortable doing one until I had played it plenty of times. Sadly, right now I'm focusing on 40K 9th as I don't have the minis to play Apoc correctly. One day though!

What happens if neither model in combat dies? Do they just move like normal next turn? couldn't find this in the book and it came up in last nights game.
If neither model dies then in the next movement phase you can decide to stay where you are (so you will fight again in the next combat phase) or you can make a Fall Back move. This is a normal move that must end outside of 1" from an enemy model. If you do this, you cannot shoot. The person that was fallen back from can then choose to also Fall Back OR they can stand still but keep the option of shooting that turn.
Is there one of these for elites and commanders? I think we might get some things wrong since we play with this and the core book as a template to try and learn how to play but we use a wider range of units/models and such then are "allowed" in the core book. And out of like 5-6 games so far I've won by to big a margin it feels like
Well the core rules for the game don't change with Elites or Commanders. In this video I'm using a unit from the Elites book, in fact. I didn't include sufactions or commanders purely because I wanted to keep it short and to the point, not because they were "extra" rules.
Which faction are you running versus which faction are they running? That will have a huge impact on how balanced the game is if everyone is always running the same few factions.
