    20th misconception by beginners: you do not need 12 different Kill Teams built and painted.
    Me? Well, since I have 12 Kill Teams laying around in their original boxes, neither built nor painted, I see myself as a KT expert and therefore this is totally fine. Everything is fine.

    • @GlassHalfDead

      I would not be able to write that in a script, everyone in fact DOES need a MINIMUM of 12 kill teams to play the game!

    Thanks for doing this. This will make access to the game a lot easier for people. I noticed one small thing though: Rule 12... the player / operative that performs the fight action starts with resolving hits, not the charging player.

      @GlassHalfDead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes, a fair point! That's of course my own poor terminology because as I mention in the next rule, charging doesn't really mean anything when it comes to fighting, they're completely unconnected!

    I know this is an old video but I dont see anyone pointing out that there is a mistake. Rule 15, Glass says vantage points remove light cover, they dont. As it says in the text shown on that part of the video, vantage points let you treat a concealed operative that is behinde light cover, as if it had an engage order. But it still has cover as if it was already in an engage order. For example, if you use a vantage point to shot at an enemy thats behind light cover in an ENGAGE order, then nothing changes.

      Yes. The term "Free Action" is very deceptive. It just means you don't spend the APL to do it, but it is still bound by all the rules for making that action. So if you free dash you can't charge or perform a second dash in that activation.

    Something that I have been wondering for a while regarding objective markers.
    Does an objective marker have to be visible to the models that are claiming control of it? I do not believe I have seen this anywhere in the rules.
    For Example. If I have a unit that is within Circle of the center of the objective marker, but there is a completely solid Heavy wall in the way, Do I control that objective or no? (we have been playing it as you have to see it. so under our current rules, this model would not Control this objective.)
    Related question: Does height affect your distance from an objective marker when determining control? (For Example, If a model is 10" directly above an objective marker on the ground underneath it, does it control the objective or no? (we have once again been playing that it would NOT, but I would apricate input)
    Any rules pages or FAQ would be apricated in backing up the answer.

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, you do not need visibility to an objective marker to control it :)
      Yes, height matters. You are always measuring distances to bases or to points. So far there are no infinitely high cylinders for objective points.
      These do not need an FAQ or anything like that, it is clear from the page that has rules for controlling objective markers and how to measure distances (I do not have the book on hand to give numbers, I'm reading the text on waha to make sure I'm right in this answer)

      When doing melee, you roll at the same time.

    So, I've been feeling like we might be shorting our Icon Bearers.
    Are there examples of Icons that aren't self-affecting?
    Tsons/Warpcoven's Icon of Flame sure. But are there others? Maybe Novitiate Reliquarius, just because her becoming incapacitated might stop her from using the ability?
    But what about Deathguard, or Heretic Astartes? Are those self-affecting?
    What determines if it impacts the banner bearer? Is it the use of "this operative" and "that operative" which seems to suggest two different models?
    Because if that's the case then no banner would affect itself, because I believe they all have that wording.

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just to clarify, you're asking a question that I directly answered in the video, right? Or is this a secondary question?
      If you have the correct keywords for the banner to affect the model holding it, then it affects it. The banner bearer is always visible to and within X of itself. So both HA and DG and daemon banners all affect the bearer, yes.

    • @villainvoice5143
      @villainvoice5143 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GlassHalfDead Honestly not certain if it's a new question or not. lol
      You had mentioned that it was visible and within range of itself and mentioned that the wording differences between different factions banners was intentional and that the wording difference has to do with how the banner affects other models not itself. Which I think I follow. You're not saying they don't affect themselves, you're talking about the targeting differences. Chaos demons only affect their same breed of demon and don't require visibility. Heretic banners boost their marines. Deathguard banners boost their marines. TSons affecting sorcerers only. Sororitas banners don't affect Arcos. Cult banners affect any friendly cult model. So I see some of the differences in targeting.
      We hadn't been playing with the banners affecting themselves due to the "this operative/that operative" terminology. We thought that suggested two different models. And I've definitely been thinking we're shorting them. I just wondered if there were any banners that clearly don't affect themselves due to how it's written.

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@villainvoice5143 Right, my bad there. So the speciifc thing I was referring to when I said different wordings is that some banners require distance and visibility for the banner to affect another model, but some banners only require distance.
      For example the chaos daemon banners can affect a model within 3". NO VISIBILITY REQUIREMENT. They can take effect through a solid wall. But both the HA and the DG banners require visbility.
      I did mention that this was in reference to how they affect other models, not themselves, but I could have been clearer :)

    Glass, I have a big question for you. If you were to teach some friends killteam with the expectation that you want them to play 40k eventually. Should you not even teach them killteam and just go straight to a 500 point 40k game? Assume that your friend hasn't played any table top games aside from star wars legion and x-wing. Both with weird special dice and a ton of cards and tokens. I'm not sure if I should bother with killteam. I have two boxes of octarious and one box of coranath.

      If the ultimate goal is to go to 40k then just play 40k, yeah. Buy a combat patrol and call it a day.
      If they end up not liking 40k then they will have the models to take a swing at Kill Team. Or if they like the idea of Kill Team's theme then they should obviously play it. But if they don't really care about the practical benefits of kill team then ignore it.

    • @aimaralonsolavega5645
      @aimaralonsolavega5645 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. To avoid mortal wounds, you would need to modify "Resolve Successful Hit step" from the enemy operator.
      This is mostly done with Tactical Ploys such as:
      REVOLTING DURABILITY 1 CP
      Use this Tactical Ploy in either the Resolve Successful Hits or Resolve Successful Saves step of a combat or shooting attack made against a friendly BUBONIC ASTARTES operative. You can change one of your opponent’s critical hits into a normal hit.

      Generally (so far always, but it doesn't necessarily have to be this way in the future):
      Mortal Wounds happen on Retaining a die in shooting, so passing a save doesn't help, you've already taken that damage.
      BUT
      Mortal Wounds happen on a successful Strike in melee combat, so if you can parry that die before the enemy strikes with it, or turn it into a parry or sth, you do in fact prevent it.
      If I'm not mistaken, that means that Revolting Durability helps against mortal wounds in melee but not in shooting.

MWs always "happen" as soon as the successful hits are retained at the end of the roll attack dice step (end thus before the resolve successful hits / saves step). Doesn't matter if it's a shooting or CC attack sequence. Btw.. I can't think of a weapon that makes MW in close combat...

      Yes. You need a Comms model within that range for the order to effect your entire kill team regardless of range.

    Glass!!! How the fuck does stun work? Does it carry over till next turn? I mean in case someone is stunned they always suffer a loss of one action right?

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My man, the same logic as losing APL needs to be applied here. Look at the RAW.
      If you hit them with a stun in your turn, then they will be -1apl for their next activation.
      If they charge you and you hit them with your stun they are -1apl until the end of that activation but then it resets at the end of their activation.
      Simple!

    question, when is an odd number wound model considered injured, is the half way point rounded up, down, or considered a .5 decimal number in the middle? additionally, the rule specifies less than half to be injured, taking an 8 wound model as an example, is it injured on 3 or 4? as the half way point on 8 is an imaginary point between 4 and 5,
    really wish they'd done a couple examples on this cause it's super debatable with how little the rules express details

      There is no debate about this rule, it's very clear due to the wording. I actually do not know how to properly answer you because I'm not sure why there is a question on this.
      Half of 8 is 4. So you must be less than 4 to count as injured.
      Half of 7 is 3.5. So you are either above that at 4 or below that at 3.
      If this doesn't answer your question, please jump in my Discord and ask in the rules questions channel!

    • @LinSquiggly
      @LinSquiggly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GlassHalfDead it does and it is the conclusion I have come to on my own, however, multiple people I have spoken to have assumed some element of rounding up or down, or that 4 wounds is less than half of eight (due to the non number mid point) with the former being due to many years of previous rules regarding fractional numbers asking players to round up and down, and the latter being because one can simply argue it
      the primary arguments come from overthinking the problem or assuming something is there when it is not, thus arguments ensue, and I simply wanted conformation from someone more knowledgeable on the matter.

      @@LinSquiggly I am unsure where 4.5 is coming from for an 8 wound model? unless you're counting it on a scale from 1-8, instead of 0-8 (or am I further complicating your question)

    • @LinSquiggly
      @LinSquiggly 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sotbs2641 that's what caused debates over the specifics, alongside assumptions of rounding up and down due to past experiences.
      in reality, it's simple, but it trips people who think too much about the simple rule, or in one case, forget decimal numbers exist momentarily.
