    1. The English name for the bird species is "Brahminy Kite", it's one of medium-sized birds of prey aka raptors..
    2. The "Square" is direct translation of the word "Dataran", even though the shape is not necessarily "square" 😂😂
    3. Been to Langkawi several times with the last trip was in 2006. My first time in Langkawi was in 1993 when it was still new for tourism and stayed at Pantai Chenang for 3 months as I have to undergo an internship in one of the resorts there. The hostel I stayed was in front of the beach of Chenang but never swam there due to crowds. Prefer quiet places like Pantai Pasir Tengkorak, Pantai Kok, Pantai Tengah etc (but I don't think it's the same quiet as what it used to be before). Back in the early 1990s, there were not many buildings, only Malay houses, few shop houses and some small food stalls.. But looking at Google Street View, it's totally different nowadays with wider roads (and some roads went missing to make way for hotels 🤣🤣)

    Awesome
    I was in Langkawi for 1 week back in Jan 2017 staying at Meritus Hotel in Pantai Cenang which is further up and much more quieter with hardly anyone there. I did the Skycab/Sky Bridge, Seven Wells Waterfalls, Tanjung Rhu Beach and Dataran Lang but there are more places to see and do in Langkawi that I did. You mentioned Koh Lipe in Thailand - well they do day trips to Koh Lipe from Langkawi from Telaga Harbour (close to SkyCab) which is what I did and spent 6 hours in Koh Lipe before heading back. But I did spend 3 nights in Koh Lipe in Feb 2018 after staying in Krabi, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta

    We have the old Dataran Merdeka a.k.a Merdeka Square in KL. That one is passed as a square although it's a rectangular if you care to argue. I guess nowadays whenever there's the word "Dataran", they carelessly translated it to "square".

  • @gundam4596
    @gundam4596 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    dataran means a large open terrain/field/surface which are level. it is not a direct translation to square, but because square is commonly use as a substitute word for dataran such as Dataran Merdeka ~ Merdeka Square, Tiananmen Square. Dataran Lang ~ Lang Square is not only on the star shape statue place but the overall area. if it is only the monument/statue spot then it is more appropriate to be called as the place of the statue or monument of the eagle. hope its helps....

  • @alihms
    @alihms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    "Dataran" in Malay means an open flat area, basically a field. It can be in any shape. I suspect you guys get it confused with "Dataran Merdeka". Direct translation would be Merdeka (independence) Field. Whoever translated it, called it as Merdeka Square. This isn't necessarily wrong because that field is square.

    Eagle square doesn't mean the shape square. The 'square' is a direct translation of the word "Dataran" which more or less means flatland or field.

  • @keangwooichoo6138
    @keangwooichoo6138 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Malaysians hide from the sun(mid day) or we seldom adore beaches(unlike western people). That is why most beaches are not crowded like other places in south east asia. Likely more crowd in the night or weekends though. Many tourists from overseas find it strange too. You are not the 1st tourist asking the question. Our beautiful beaches are not crowded generally speaking.

      @sunkissedbucketlist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We just didn't understand as there were lots of foreign tourists at the sky bridge but at the waterfall and Tanjung Rhu, there were very few! The locals we know like to be in the cool or the shade 😊

    • @keangwooichoo6138
      @keangwooichoo6138 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sunkissedbucketlist yes hill stations are the favorite spots like genting, fraser's hill, cameron highlands. You saw it with your own eyes without me telling you.
      While foreigners bask in the sun, we hide under the shades or go up the mountains. That is why our world class beaches are deserted mostly. Unlike in thailand or philippines or indonesia or vietnam. Another thing is our mountains are accessible easily via cablè cars or roads. And we own cars to get around.
