    My factory ordered ‘09 FX4 S/crew still runs and looks like it just came off the showroom floor and by now I’ve now enjoyed many payment free years from it. At this point I plan on keeping it indefinitely in spite of having a list of people wanting to buy it.

      It was basically the 300 I6 4.9L of the 10th and 11th gen F-150's. Slow and underpowered, but also greatly under stressed overall which is why it's so easy to get them to a half a million miles so long as you just keep up with basic maintenance.

      @@nathanmcdonald610 The 4.6L felt underpowered in the 11th gen, but felt just right in the 10th gen. I've had a few of each over the years. Never any engine problems though.

    I’ve got a 2009 lariat 5.4 with 217,000 mile on it. Love that truck. The 5.4 has got a bad name from dipshits that can’t change their oil regularly.

    • @theowl2044
      @theowl2044 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those guys change oil every 10k miles and use the cheapest regular oil they can find

    • @JamesK7911
      @JamesK7911 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it’s more the 11th generation trucks that had the problems with the 5.4s.
      They are known for the timing chains and cam phasers at about 200l miles. My 2004 F-150 started to misfire badly in February 2022 and then it’s timing chain went out in May 2022 at 190k miles on it. My timing chai, cam phasers, and coil packs had to all be replaced plus 2 of my spark plugs because they broke 🤷‍♂️ it ran like new after that and I had it for about another year until it got totaled in a rollover wreck.
      Other than the misfiring and timing chain issues, as well as for the rusted out poorly designed boxed frame… that truck treated me well especially after the new timing chain.

    • @StraightUpRainbows
      @StraightUpRainbows 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No reason to get a 5.4 when you can get a 5.0 with better fuel economy, power, and reliability.

    • @motormouth2472
      @motormouth2472 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@StraightUpRainbows Mostly true, other than that the 5.4 had a better overall torque figure as far as I'm concerned. I'd take the 5.4's 390 lb-ft at 3500 rpm over the 5.0's 380 lb-ft at 4250 rpm any day.
      It's not something that really matters as the 5.0 is the superior engine to the 5.4 in almost any circumstance, and I am a huge fan of this motor. But I just wish they made a little more low-end torque

    • @StraightUpRainbows
      @StraightUpRainbows 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@motormouth2472 I mean the torque difference is almost negligible, albeit the torque comes sooner in the RPMS; I imagine you’ll feel the 40 horsepower increase of the 5.0s before the 10 pound foot of torque increase in the 5.4, but who’s to say?
      You can even argue that the 5.4 is better due to accessibility of parts, since even rebuilt 5.4 engines are dirt cheap compared to rebuilt 5.0 engines that fix all the design flaws in the 5.4 3v like with Powertrain Products’ rebuilds.

    The 5.4 makes 310hp/ 365 tq. The stated 320 hp/ 390 tq is only made running E85 fuel, your motor will gunk up if a tank of regular fuel isn't occasionally rotated in and also your fuel mileage will drop a little. I'll take the 10 less hp.

      B Kranz, Ford's 5.4 and Dodge's 5.7 were more comparable than people realize. Sure, the 5.7 produced more horsepower and torque than the 5.4. But, the 5.4 produced its power significantly lower than the Dodge. For peak horsepower the Dodge had to rev to 5000 rpm whereas the 5.4 reached peak power at 4000. Peak torque came 500 rpm higher in the Dodge as well. People shit on the 5.4 but it was the better truck engine, especially when towing heavy loads. That's specifically what the 5.4 was designed to do, that's why it makes all its power lower in the rev range but that's also what made it feel so much slower than the Dodge and GM competitors.

    then you prefer junk then. Toyota patron are dyed in the wool suckers. It's really too bad that toyota wasted a good drive train on a cheap pos truck...but then that's ALWAYS been toyotas style - well put together but cheaply built. Everything else is inadequate - interior, ride, looks, build quality, rad cap., tiny trans cooler, crap c channel flexy frame, cheap hardware, cheap suspension parts and tow pkg is a joke.
