Tiny Cabin Transformation: Installing a Metal Roof.

- Welcome to the weekend homestead! My off grid tiny cabin is located in the wilds of MN.
In this video we continue to work on the bunkhouse, aka, the BUNKER! The metal roof for the roof has arrived and it's time to make some major progress. Just like all my DIY building, this project had some learning curves but in the end I think it will work just fine. Installing a metal roof is pretty simple in theory but there are a few ways that things can go wrong and i think I found most of them!
What I enjoy most is that you seem to be a "normal guy" doing what he loves to do "up north". You are truely a blessed man! Great job Terry

I realize that there are millions of channels to watch. And I realize that it takes effort and intention to leave a comment. Those facts are not lost on me and I'm really grateful that people want and choose to spend time with us. So for me it's more about saying 'Thank you" to viewers rather than asking for something. So 'Thank you"!

just a suggestion. clear those trees by the bunk house now so you wont be panicking about them in the future.
I've been going back and forth on that topic. Right now they shade the front against the hot afternoon sun. I plan to put a deck. on it so it would be nice to have shade. So far they are small enough that I'm not too worried yet.
Great job on the bunkhouse! Ya..a few mistakes here and there...that's just part of every project like that. Finding the solution counters the frustration. Keep the videos coming Terry.

Another quality day at the cabin and a productive one at that. Another day closer to being finished and had a great meal with family aka ( River Dog ) and still doing by yourself without hiring anything out.be proud remember that professionals mess up too but there good at hiding it so we don’t see it. Great job.

Great video! Great escape. You gotta be loving it and the future memories to be made! I suggest a journal in the bunk house for visitors to sign, date and leave a memory.
I'm not a huge handwriter anymore but I kind of use these videos as a record. I keep each one on a hard drive after it posted.
@@TRERUNSWILD I totally get that and it's a great way for you to keep track but a journal would be for your guests to leave a note on the highlight of their visit. Just a thought....I have stayed in cabins that have them and not only did I get ideas for areas to visit or things to do but it leaves a nice book for the owner to enjoy later. Keep making us smile! Can't wait for the next video!
I never thought of it for guests. I think thats a greta idea and will leave one in the bunkhouse when it's finished

OMG! I’ll be so happy when you’re done doing the roof on the bunkhouse, because it makes me so nervous when you’re sliding around up there! I knew it was slippery in the winter time, but it still looked slippery to me (then again I’m old and scared of heights🤣) River is too cute, I loved his “high 5“ and I’m glad you gave him a taste of your dinnner. You’re doing a great job on your construction.
Be safe, and keep River under a watchful eye so that darn bear doesn’t get him 🙀❤️✌🏻
That roof was super slippery. No way I coul dhave been on it without the rope. I hate heights as well which doesn't help!
And besides I’m 78 and it gives great stuff to watch since I don’t have adventures anymore 😊

The outside tan color is just primer for now. I still need to decide what to paint it.

Love the progress ! Used to ask my dad what he was doing in the workshop or wherever and he’d always say just puttering and then roughly explain what he was doing. Being self employed I’ve learned the beauty in just puttering. No deadline and no expectation ! And not that you’re just puttering but you hope to get this much done but no deadline lol. You’re at camp and part of that in my mind … is projects. At some point you’ll be out trimming up all the branches or who knows what cause the big projects are done and you like to stay busy. lol. Damn I ramble sometimes 😂. Take care T
You get it perfectly! If not today then tomorrow! Plus I squirrel around a lot. I trip to the shed for a tool could result in me mowing the lawn!
Love your videos! I make Sun Tea but found you don’t need the sun- just let the tea bags sit in the water for a few hours on the kitchen counter or in the refrig. I use herbal tea combos- so refreshing. Love that River dog knows how to high- five🐕
Oh interesting about using other teas. I'm just using "ice tea" bags but now I'll try others!

I place the used coffee filter and grounds in a coffee cup and set it on my deck. No bugs!

Don't feel too bad about the"mistake" pre-drilling holes on the ground...did the very same thing. LOL
Also, good to see you using the harness, particularly while working by yourself so far out. I didn't do so while working on our cabin years ago and slid right off bashing the ground with vigor. Fortunately, it wasn't a terribly high fall - and I was in my 20s, so there wasn't a significant injury or recovery time.

Your new bunkhouse will be nice to have your family and friends to come and visit. Glad you stayed safe on the roof, not for me anymore. My neighbor is going back to Lake Winnie Sunday in Minnesota. Your little birds should be flying the nest in a little bit of time.
They just left yesterday! I have family coming to visit so at least they won’t need a tent

Thanks for the videos…..always entertaining. I do want to comment on planting Apple trees. I planted apple trees 20 years ago on my property in Wisconsin where bears are common. Once the trees started to produce fruit the bears absolutely destroyed them…..sad but true.
I was worried about the deer but actually never considered bears. I put them near the cabin for protection for them.....Maybe not a great idea to call bears closer to the cabin
Your roof looks great, I love the color! Such a beautiful time of year at your cabin, everything looks amazing. Your hard work is paying off. Mixing work and play makes for a good life. Spray all trees at perimeter with a solution of 1/3 pine sol, 1/3 Ammonia and 1/3 water. Bears hate it. I was forced to work for 100 hours of community service at the Bronx Zoo in the early 1980s a zoo keeper showed me this and it works.

I’ve found a few nice things. Nothing super valuable. One of my favorites is an old ornate Victorian era silver wedding ring.

Luv the content always & Riverdog. We have lots of bears at homebase..lots. No problems they just want to eat and be left alone. Never get between cubs and Momma. All my dogs in 25 years listen well enough not to chase them. 1 ran up to one I wasn't aware was around nose to nose...nothing happened. Good luck Terry. Better prepared than sorry though.
That would spook me! I'm not afraid of black bears generally but having one run up to me would freak me out.

This is only the second outdoor channel that I watch where grace is said before meals. Somehow, I don't think God is the least bit offended by Terry's ball cap. You and your judgemental comment, however, have most likely earned a check in the "bad" column on God's scorecard. My mom taught me that when you point a finger at someone else, you are pointing three fingers back at yourself.

Do you know anyone who does a deveining rod ? My daddy did our well using one, just a young branch in a Y shape. He showed me but I was very young. It works. God bless you and I really appreciate all you do.
I messed around with this before picking the spot. I used some old coat hangers. I think I got a reaction in a spot but it was too close to the outhouse. So I'll never know if it was real or not.

We make sun tea here in east TN. You scare me climbing all over that roof (or “ruf” as you would say lol lol) when no one else is around. What do you attach your harness to? A tree?

I use coffee grounds all the time for mosquitos. Not the best smell of burning coffee but it seems to work. Try using fresh, dry, unused grounds. buy a cheap bag.

The bunk house is looking nice, we would like to do that on our hunting property but I’m concerned about what hoops I will have to jump through with the county code wise. I will have to try the deep fried venison that looked good.
My county was super easy. Bring in a sketch to the permit place with the distance from boundaries, pay $120 and you are good. 10 minute approval. Because it's off grid, no septic , etc.

So far so good. But that river is controlled by many dams so it's pretty safe.
