I really love that you explain the “why” in the techniques. Explaining color theory, effects of finishes and not shaming our preferred look while still offering alternatives is the more preferred delivery for me. Thanks.
I am a mature lady with small hooded eyes but love the way you explained how light reflects and how to apply the lighter and darker shades in certain areas to open the eye. Great video!
I so loved this tutorial. Indeed, your left eye looks brighter, bigger, and more lifted. Having smaller eyes myself, I always shied away from using a black liner under the lower lash line. Your technique is gorgeous and you make it look so simple to do❣
These videos are so helpful for me. I am just shy of 60 and wanting to hone a look. I see so many beautiful creations but don't feel they are right for me. This gives perspective. Even your subtle tips are helpful. Thank you Lisa🧡
&Lisa Thornton I’m 49 (time FLIES) and am still looking to perfect techniques. I thought I was pretty good until I started watching TH-cam. I can never get the transition shade even close - actually never heard of that term until recently - I grew up doing light all over first, lid color, then outer V (remember the Covergirl eyeshadow trio palettes ?) I found an old picture of Maybelline eyeshadow and one looks like the Norvina palette colors. Nothing new, just new to people who grew up with UD Naked palette.
So good to hear! Thanks Lisa! I suggest maybe just trying a few subtle or easier things and then building off of that! Maybe it will give you a better idea!
Hi Lisa, I am an older person and I notice when I use a light color eye shadow it shows all the crapey skin on my eyes. Any suggestions To advoid this?
You are welcome! I think you are very pretty , even without make up. I am trying to get my two daughters to watch your tutorial videos. They will learn a lot like I do. Take care and more power to you🌹
Your video is so great!! I love it!! I tried your technique, and it made so much difference!! My eyes look twice as big and I am 61! I looked on your site for some skincare videos. I didn't see any. What do you use?
Both are pretty looks, one more smoky evening and one more natural daytime. You can definitely see the left eye looks more open. But I was surprised at how much of a difference the brow bone highlight made! I’m definitely going to try this. Thanks Lisa! ❤️
I loved this video.Lisa! Thank you so much doing it. I'm 54 and have issues with my eyeshadow with aging. This is really going to help give a lift to my "mature " eyes lol. if you ever need a student with very mature skin, let me know! I'm local and would love to have you do my makeup :) By the way, you are beautiful inside and out!
Hi Lisa, I can definitely see how the lighter eyeshadow on the inner half of the eye opens the eye. Great comparison! You are a great teacher. Love, kindness and happiness, Teresa
Lisa - you do a tremendous job (actually the best) teaching and demonstrating techniques! I actually do a combo of these but I want to try the brighter eye. I do have larger, almond shaped eyes so I usually just follow the lines. I'm interested in the bright eye! I really like how you tell the brush name and number. Thank you!
You are one of the best videos I've seen in the past few years. You don't discourage either looks, which is refreshing. I darken my eyes for nighttime sometimes, and the other look i use for daytime or work. Its really what I am wearing or what my mood is. THANK YOU for respecting both sides. Btw, you are gorgeous as well.
I have very hooded eyes and I like to use the elongated shadow technique you used on the right side but I like to do the gradient on the lid like the left side...so I use a combination of both techniques. I do the big liner on top...but brown liner in the under the waterline and diffuse it...I actually prefer the Smokey eye...but as you stated quite a few times, it is all about personal preference
Ty. This was Exactly what I needed to learn how to do! You are a Great Teacher! You and Your Skin are Beautiful and makes You even more Perfect to do this. I Believe this is Truly Your Gift and Calling to do. This is just what I needed! Ty so much! Keep Teaching!
Hi Lisa, I am repeating all the comments below! I love all your tutorials and videos. This one is great! I've learned a lot! They are so informative and thoughtful! My makeup routine has improved tremendously since finding your channel. Also, I love your skin care tutorials. As far as I'm concerned you are one of the best on TH-cam! Much love, Sarah - Boston💞
Lisa, you’re wonderful! I really needed this tutorial. I have smallish hooded eyes and wear glasses so these tips help so much. Could you please tell us which nudish color pencil you used on the lower lash line? I only have white and it’s too stark. Also can you recommend a lash product that I can use in place of mascara almost like a mascara without color. Every mascara I use winds up under my eyes! I use primer, waterproof mascara and even set my undereye with powder. Nothing helps. I’d love a colorless mascara that gives my lashes length and volume. Sorry about the long message. I appreciate your time!
I absolutely love your videos, especially the ones for us mature women 😁I have learned so much from your tutorials and think you have an amazing gift as a teacher. I find your explanations to be easy and very clear to follow, not to mention that your voice is beautiful. Thank you for making all us women feel beautiful! ❤️🇨🇦
I love both looks/colors on both eyes. I think the darker eye with the black liner looks fabulous for an evening look. Your left eye looks great for daytime.
Always a joy to watch and learn. You are an excellent teacher. Have u done a makeup brush tutorial? I hear the references of many various brushes with their brands and numbers. Then when I’m shopping I just don’t know which ones I should purchase. Even though I closely follow ur teaching videos, the brush selection is arduous. Perhaps others feel as I do? Any help you give is appreciated. If u had a brush tutorial, perhaps u can link it. Thank u.
Another great tutorial Lisa. Just watched one of your older eyeshadow videos. Great tips in both. I think why the black liner doesn't look the best on you is your hair color. I have very dark brunette hair (now graying lol) and even now the black liner looks ok on me. I don't use it as much as it is aging so like you I go brown or plum now but I think hair color is what might determine it. I actually loved both looks on you. I doubt you could ever look less than stunning. ❤️❤️❤️
I’ll say it yet again...you are the best teacher at showing makeup technique and tips. The difference in eyes is quite noticeable even though they’re both very pretty. Excellent tutorial; I always learn something helpful from you. Happy Easter to you & your family! 🐰✝️🐣🌸🥚
Another EXCELLENT video featuring a much needed How To on, actually, two ways to achieve choices of eye looks, and I love 💗 this video! Your way and manner of demonstrating these step by step looks make it very simple to follow and to understand. I can apply this to my situation very well and I will be able to do so successfully bc you do take it step by step, simply and in easy to follow instructions, with why each step works. This is very valuable teaching, and it’s free! This is just one more example of why your TH-cam channel is growing so quickly. I’m so proud of you and so happy for you. 💖✨💖✨💖
It was amazing when you just had your first color on your eye. It looked like you had two different shape of eyes. Just from what you did with the eyeshadow. Great video.
You have beautiful eyes even before you start your makeup and it’s funny how we all like different things. I think your right eye looks so much bigger and more shapely than the left which looks a more natural enhancement to me. Funny how our tastes change over the years too. Although 60, I have been searching for ages for a Smokey enough eye, to no avail. They all stopped short seemingly afraid to really go for it. But you have done it brilliantly and il be copying this saved vid. Thanks and you have a new subscriber lol ❤
Thank you for your teaching. I am trying to learn how to do my eyeshadow. I have been collecting a few palettes and want to use them all. I have trouble with application on the outer corners because I do not know how much to put on and where to place it. Also I cannot put liner on the water line because I wear contacts and get eye infections. I have to apply on the lash line. I have started to use a lighter shade of shadow on the lower lid and a liner on the upper but not all the way over. I am loving learning technique and by watching you, this is the first I've seen, I will learn more.
What a huge difference. One eye looks like your on your way to church or lunch with the ladies whereas the other eye looks like your an your way home from a night night on the town.. very interesting & informative video. Thanks Lisa 💕💕💕😛
Thank you for teaching us to use a shimmer to help blend a darker color. I’m going to try that! 😊 I am also going to try a light shimmer on my brow bone. I’ve been using a flesh tone that doesn’t do much. Also going to do a thicker liner over the iris to create a more rounded eye.
Thank you for this tutorial 😉 I’ve been scared to wear makeup most of my life due to little education but now in my 40s I’m wanting to practice and play with makeup more.
Good morning, Lisa. Honestly, I love both looks....the smoky eye for evening & the lighter left eye for daytime. Both are beautiful looks. I think you could also wear the Smoky eye during the day if you didn’t line the bottom lid so heavily, but a bit more like your left eye. Two great looks!! Have a great day!
Thank you Sandra! I like them both too, and I agree..I would probably tweak the lower lash line on the smokier on to make it softer. have a great weekend!
Wow, what a difference. I have almond shaped eyes that are hooded as well so this is extremely helpful for me. Adore your technique videos! Thanks so, so much, love🍃🌸.
Such a well done video....the "why" part is so important, because I can now customize placement based on my eye shape and the look I am trying to achieve.
Lisa, I adore both looks, normally I use the look on your Left side , the heavy side ,but I will try the lighter side, to see how different I look . you have a beautiful way of showing us viewers both techniques, simply gorgeous to die for.
Thank you for this demo! I like that you included brand of product and color/number. Both are beautiful day look (your left), and night look (your right). Going from day to night can be easily obtained by enhancing the day look a little more. Without starting over.
Loved this video!! Though I don't have Naked Reloaded (yet)....I followed along and did my eye makeup w/ you using Tartelette In Bloom. I can happily say my eyes do look brighter and more open!! This was an especially good video for us more 'mature' women. At 51, my eyes have become slightly 'hooded' and I think the techniques in your video, Lisa, really helped me. Thanks so much for posting. Have a wonderful day and Happy Easter!! 😊👍💗
Excellent video. This video was so helpful with technique and brush selection. I have difficulty in placing the outer corner color. Once I saw your placement of color I saw what I was doing wrong. Also I have the Sigma E 30 pencil brush and the Mac 219 pencil brush. Almost identical but the Sigma E30 works much better than the Mac 219 for small hooded eyes. The best transitional/crease color I have found is the Anas Beverly Hills in the color Birkin. So many shades are too dark or too light. This color is just right. I would love for you to do a video on lid colors for small, hooded, creapy lids. Shimmers and metallic colors don’t look good. Possibly a matte selection based on eye colors would be so helpful. I haven’t seen any videos on this subject. Thanks again for all the helpful techniques and product recommendations.
Already having almond cat shaped eyes, I love a video to try n change this look....mind u, as I've gotten older I have accepted a feature I used to dislike to one I work with and now try and accentuate and have grown to love! You suit both looks, tho the wider eye slightly better and have a great way of explaining things without faffing around, thank you x
Very nice video. Thanks. I have huge eyes and I always use a black eyeliner from one end to another and never use anything under the eye. I’ll change that of course. 😀I also think the darker look on the right eye is quite flattering on you.
I've learned a lot from you about the brush sizes & how you hold them makes a difference. Now if I can just conquer eye liner & false lashes, lol!! Thank you so much for all you great video's!!
Hi Lisa! Great tutorial, loved that you did half and half, because you can really see the difference. I’ve been inspired by your tutorials that I’ve been trying to apply it to myself. Have you done an eyeliner tutorial? That’s actually my biggest challenge, especially liquid. Thanks again!
Brilliant video (as always), I'm really glad you showed BOTH techniques because I don't know how to do either and I've always wanted to learn how to 'elongate' as I think my eyes are quite rounded, both look beautiful though.
Wow! Thank you so much for this video. I have watched many videos on how to make your eyes look more open, but your video explains and demonstrates it so clear. Thank you so much for this video. I will be watching more of your videos
Thank you so much for this video!! I have such small eyes I don’t wear eyeshadow but I’m going to try this technique and see if it works for me. I appreciate your step by step instruction. Thanks again!!
This is so wonderful. I can feel my heart expand with excitement when I learn from you. Quick Question: Do you have a video describing which brush is good for which function? (I feel in the dark on this).
Thank you for this video! I really enjoyed how clear your explanations were. And I appreciated how considerate you were in letting others know it’s just an option. depending on the occasion or the look that you want, either approach is valid. I really enjoyed and appreciated all of the little details that help make a bigger and more rounded eye. Can’t wait to try them!
Lisa, I always learn so much from your videos! I’m so thankful for your you tube channel and your attention to detail. You are such a lovely person and great teacher 😀
Such a great video Lisa! You make doing a wing look so easy 😭😭 I just cannot master this. The struggle for me is that I have hooded eyes that turn down, so I don't know where to start the flick!
Love your videos!!! I do have a question though, clearly most of us hope to get the lifted effect on the right side, however, there are so many dark shimmering eyeshadows on the market, I am sure we all have that dark brown shimmering eyeshadow, how to use those then in a way to be flattering and have that same effect? Maybe you could make a new video to teach us?
Very helpful tips :) The left eye look is one I wear every day. I hardly ever use black eye liner, mostly brown. I also when in a hurry like to use an eye crayon/pencil shadow or cream shadow of a light taupe all over the lid with lots of mascara :)
What a fab video Lisa ❤️ I notice you have removed your lashes, any reason for that decision? Sorry if you’ve already addressed this in another video x
Both of your eyes honestly look gorgeous! I love the open look for day & the darker one is so dramatic for night! Beautiful!
These are my favorite videos you film! You are such a wonderful teacher! 📝🍎
Thanks so much Kristal!
I really love that you explain the “why” in the techniques. Explaining color theory, effects of finishes and not shaming our preferred look while still offering alternatives is the more preferred delivery for me. Thanks.
So happy to hear that! Thank you so much :)
I like the smoky one that looks smaller as well.

They both look beautiful!
Your eyes look beautiful without any makeup. You don’t need it at all!
Hi Lisa, I am an older person and I notice when I use a light color eye shadow it shows all the crapey skin on my eyes. Any suggestions
To advoid this?
I think the right eye is good for evening glam style. The left eye is more for daytime look. I love your videos😍
Thanks Pristin!
Yes I agree! I think both are beautiful looks but for different occasions/part of the day.
You are welcome! I think you are very pretty , even without make up. I am trying to get my two daughters to watch your tutorial videos. They will learn a lot like I do. Take care and more power to you🌹

Love how you make a point to say, what works for you might work differently for someone else. There is no right or wrong way. Great teaching video!
Glad you like it! Thanks Judy!
I just love your makeup class videos. I am learning so much. Please keep them coming! 😘🌺🌺💖💖🌺
Thanks Janice!
Hi Lisa,
I can definitely see how the lighter eyeshadow on the inner half of the eye opens the eye. Great comparison! You are a great teacher. Love, kindness and happiness, Teresa
I found your channel about a month ago and I’ve already learned so much. I just want to thank you Lisa you are a great teacher.

What did you use for the nude liner for left eye?
Both looks are beautiful. Your eyes are stunning.

I love the right eye, because that’s how I wore it when I was young. At 63, the left eye is better. I love how you did the video, it’s so inspiring!!!

I love both looks/colors on both eyes. I think the darker eye with the black liner looks fabulous for an evening look. Your left eye looks great for daytime.
I always learn from your videos! I was wondering what lash curler you used. I’m struggling to find a pair that suit my hooded eyes.

Awww thanks Susan! Have a wonderful Easter!
Loved this video and the "why" beyond just a "how". Keep them coming!
Thank u for this tutorial and thanks for explaining it step by step and why you are doing each step. It helps Alot.
I agree with your theory on why you teach your tips and training videos. Thank you for taking the time to step by step these looks.

You are the best teacher! I love how explain all of principals of color!
Thanks Debra! :)
@@lisajmakeup can I pay you
Thank you so much for the comparison video. I am 65 years old and will be trying your new tricks!
Finally! a video I can watch over and over, I am learning so much from you. Thank you so much!
It was amazing when you just had your first color on your eye. It looked like you had two different shape of eyes. Just from what you did with the eyeshadow. Great video.
Thank you so much Mandy!
This is great. I can see how I'm not doing what I need to in order to attain the look I want.
This is one of the most helpful makeup videos I've ever seen! I have very small eyes and really wanted to learn to make them look bigger.
I love when you teach! You are such a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate you helping all of us understand tips and techniques that you know so well.
Gorgeous. Best teacher for a make-up tutorial of all that I have seen. I liked the smokey eye with your pretty eye color!
Thankyou Lisa. I just I just found your channel and love it. You are so elegant and I love listening to and watching you. Thankyou.

WOW! The difference was apparent with the first swipe on your right eye! Fantastic video!! Thank you!!
Excellent tutorial one of the best if not the best I’ve seen! Thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial 😉 I’ve been scared to wear makeup most of my life due to little education but now in my 40s I’m wanting to practice and play with makeup more.
Beautifully narrated. Bravo!💥
Good morning, Lisa. Honestly, I love both looks....the smoky eye for evening & the lighter left eye for daytime. Both are beautiful looks. Wow, what a difference. I have almond shaped eyes that are hooded as well so this is extremely helpful for me. Adore your technique videos!
Thanks so, so much, love🍃🌸.
Best tutorial on eyes I've seen. Thankyou
Such a well done video....the "why" part is so important, because I can now customize placement based on my eye shape and the look I am trying to achieve.
Thank you, for your tutorial video! I agree with your techniques. My eyes are almond like shaped, also. I will try your ideas!
Lisa, I adore both looks, normally I use the look on your
Left side , the heavy side ,but I will try the lighter side, to see how different I look . you have a beautiful way of showing us viewers both techniques, simply gorgeous to die for.
Thank you for this demo! I like that you included brand of product and color/number. Both are beautiful day look (your left), and night look (your right). Going from day to night can be easily obtained by enhancing the day look a little more. Without starting over.
Great tutorial ! I really enjoyed the why of putting the make-up on the eye. Love it.
Using your techniques and my friends are commenting how pretty my makeup is looking! Thanks Lisa
So happy to hear that! Thank you so much Cheryl!
Thanks Lisa just beautiful. Looks great! I I enjoyed your video immensely.
Already having almond cat shaped eyes, I love a video to try n change this look....mind u, as I've gotten older I have accepted a feature I used to dislike to one I work with and now try and accentuate and have grown to love! Very nice video. Thanks. I have huge eyes and I always use a black eyeliner from one end to another and never use anything under the eye. I’ll change that of course. 😀I also think the darker look on the right eye is quite flattering on you.
Just rewatched this. Always good! Love it when you teach 'why"!
Looks like daytime/nightime looks. Very nice on both!
I've learned a lot from you about the brush sizes & how you hold them makes a difference. Now if I can just conquer eye liner & false lashes, lol!! Thank you so much for all you great video's!!
Thank you so much! So happy to hear :)
Hi Lisa! Great tutorial, loved that you did half and half, because you can really see the difference. I’ve been inspired by your tutorials that I’ve been trying to apply it to myself. Have you done an eyeliner tutorial? That’s actually my biggest challenge, especially liquid. Thanks again!
Excellent video! This helped me so much. I’m clueless with eye shadow, big time. What is the lipstick you are wearing at the end? It’s beautiful.
Thank you, Lisa.
These are tips an older girl like myself can really use.
Fantastic tutorial !!!
I am so glad it was helpful! xoxo
38 yrs old and a complete beginner..... any extra tips becaus I don't even know where to start :(
Thank you so much for this video!! I have such small eyes I don’t wear eyeshadow but I’m going to try this technique and see if it works for me. I appreciate your step by step instruction. Thanks again!!
Thanks Stephanie!
Love the 2 comparisons so I can see what you are teaching. Great job. You are the best makeup teacher. Thank you!
How sweet of you! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.
Lisa, love, love your educational tip videos. You are a natural. Thank you for all you do!

No matter what you do, You always look amazing, because you're beautiful. all of your looks come out great.
Such a great video Lisa! You make doing a wing look so easy 😭😭 I just cannot master this. The struggle for me is that I have hooded eyes that turn down, so I don't know where to start the flick!
One of your best videos ever! Super helpful...thank you. Watched you on the 55" TV and you're gorgeous.
Thank you! I like the open wide-eye
Love this video please do more of them going to watch the lash video now. Thank you for passing on your knowledge.
Great video! How do you chose the colour of the concealer? Lighter or darker?🌺
So very helpful Lisa! Thank you! You are beautiful!
Great video. Love how the technique you explained makes the eye look bigger and brighter.
Very helpful tips :) The left eye look is one I wear every day. I hardly ever use black eye liner, mostly brown. I also when in a hurry like to use an eye crayon/pencil shadow or cream shadow of a light taupe all over the lid with lots of mascara :)
This is super helpful! Thank you for explaining the effect of each part of your eye makeup ☺️ xx
Both the eyes look good! Will try how you did it, always want to do the shadow but don’t feel confident in shaping, hopefully practice ❤
Thank you Lisa, I love watching your videos, you make things very easy to understand 🥰
What a fab video Lisa ❤️ I notice you have removed your lashes, any reason for that decision? Sorry if you’ve already addressed this in another video x
You are a natural at imparting your gift. Thank you 💕💕💕
Loved it! What lipstick did you use here? Thank you and kind
This is the BEST tutorial ever.
