i'm a classical pianist and i know all the chords, but i always wondered how people do all the tricks and rhythmical things. what i could do with chords was only four beat boring style. and i searched a lot of videos looking for how to actually do piano accompaniment. it turns out this is by far the best instruction of all. it has everything i was looking for!!!! i love how this is not too basic. every other videos just ends, explaining chord build for whole time and not showing other tricks. i think this is really good for intermediate or higher. thank you
This lesson is a PREMIUM lesson--for free. I like the way we are schooled with a pop song, and are taught a valuable way to spice up the song. I've been all over YT, and I think that this guy really gets what students need in order to climb the rungs from mediocre to better and much better. You can't lose following this teacher! If you like "Thinking Out Loud", you will LOVE this lesson! This tutor KNOWS what he's doing; and I, personally, know I have found the perfect teacher.
Thanks a lot for the kind words Eddie. I don't hold back on my youtube videos I just do what I feel like and there certainly is no filter on it. Here I am at 3 in the morning and can't get enough of your lessons. This one is tremendous, exactly what I'm looking for at just the right time for me now. I am improving quite rapidly now. This is what separates you from all the rest. You push us along with rewarding challenges that deliver so much satisfaction.
What an excellent tutor you are. Your repeated, slown down methodical lesson and, adding in embellishments is superb. I've only recently moved to accompaniment playing and your video is top class stuff I needed for clarification, inspiration and to reference. Keep 'em coming. Well done from Halifax UK
Thank you so much for this! I'm in a band and we have a competition on Friday (30th October), and I'm playing the keyboard and I was looking for a guide and this is exactly what I needed! Thanks again
I come from twoset gang... thought this would be for classical music and compositions. Then he said Ed Sheeran. Edit: but I still really respect the effort and depth put into this video. It’s certainly a well made-one and you achieved what you said you would.
You make me so glad I was accidentally trained to widow and that I spent a lot of time after practice playing 😭. A friend hired me for a wedding gig recently and tbh I'm very nervous, but after watching this and looking back to that time I ad-libbed with a bunch of classmate musicians on songs I had no clue on, I feel like I can def pull it off
Thank you again, Josef, for another stimulating lesson. I have heard all of this and know it in theory, but you are motivating me to just sit down and try to improvise on my own. That, I must admit, is one great weak point... improvising. I will watch another video again very soon! Can't wait to put this one into practice!
I have subscribed to your channel for around one year (I think), and this video has always stayed in my playlist! I have truly improved A LOT with your tutorials throughout this year! Just want to say thank you to you!
Thanks for sharing! I am a late piano learner. Very very late. But with videos such as these ones, this gives me the encouragement that I'll "hopefully" catch up with lost time. I'm now on my 2nd year and i was able to come up and finish some piano pieces in my channel as well. I hope that one day, I'll be able to read sheet music fast, familiarize the chords and get more comfortable on the piano. Beginners such as myself really appreciate this wonderfully crafted video. Wish you well and more success!
Wow! I've been watching this and practicing for an hour or so and I have been able to play this. well surely not as good as you since im just a beginner.. But you"re such a great teacher! hoping to play really well and hone my skills in the future.. i know i still have a lot to learn.. This is very encouraging. Thanks for this man! 😊
Thank you so so much.. I'm a music producer.. & your tutorials make a huge improvement of my piano playing as well as my sound programming & music production quality.. I'm really greatfull for your tutorial.. Thank u so much from the deep of my heart :) :)
I coudnt see why you only have few subscribers, what I mean is your videos are reaaaally helpful and brilliant!! Thanks for sharing and I hope to see more from you
I know this is an old video but it's a major winner. No one puts together a lesson on comping like this. Its been a while. Can you do another one like this? Maybe another cool song but one thats a different kind of song. Please!
You are great!I'm from Russia, and i watch all of your videos. You are very positive and creative man))It is so interesting to watch your videos, and study something new!You often shows very exclusive things, which i've never seen on youtube lessons!Thank you so much))
This means so much to me. thankyou. Its what I tried to set out to do with this channel. Put out something a bit different but super helpful. Keep checking in, videos go up weekly (sometimes more)
Been 'plonking' for awhile but now following what you suggest is great. Love your enthusiasm makes me feel 'i can!' I'm learning to relax. Plus I now time myself and take the minute rest which I have found relaxing in practice. Your the channel I have stayed with, cos your the best. God bless you. I have my coffee in the mins rests!
Haha, thats fantastic to hear Carol. It means a lot. The secret of course to becomming great on the piano is not the grind and the practice, but the coffee. Coffee is the ultimate magic bullet!
thank you sir, I studied a lot of classical music, and I found it hard to put my knowledge in practice, after watching this video, I think I can make my accompaniment much better by filling some modulating melodies when there is gap
hmm, perhaps. theres so much you can do, but quickly off the top of my head, you can play a slightly more melodic or adapted version of the main chord sequence then tone it back down when the singer comes in.
You Open Me Doors for Years...Thanks Mate This practice is my dream since longtime To How To Fill the Chords Great Great Care of You By this times God bless You.
Yeh Josef, cant believe I'm doing this ( rather attempting ) 8.00 o clock xmas day!! well done , some challenging chord movements to practice, think I'm gonna transcribe the sequence on paper in sections as your video
I've only been playing 18 months and switching to the black keys is a bit challenging right now. Do you think this is too hard for a beginner? LOVE your videos! You really helped me during lockdown with your awesome personality & a smidge of comedy!
14:40 top rythmnic note The fancy chord notes was transitioned from A chord to D chord back to the G chord, 1st, 4th and 5th chord 19:40 is using A chord and D chord notes, as it transits from A to D
Hi i have been a subscriber for a while and i find the visual aspect ( the keyboard ) above the piano very helpful. What is this software as i would find it useful for some of my own music projects. I assume it runs on a mac as i see one in the video. I have various music programs but i have yet to find this feature, i hope you don't mind me asking as some other viewers may find it useful. sorry for the bad english as it is not my first language.
Hey,thanks for the tips! I am a singer, guitarist and also I have been playing piano since one year now.I used to mostly accompany my voice with guitar until indidn't learn piano but now i carry both-my guitar and piano with me in gigs to give different flavours in different songs that i sing ,since some of the songs are upbeat and some are mellow.I want to make myself better at accompanying my voice with piano.I own a PXS 3000(casio) which also has the capability to layer strings/organs/pads and many other tones over it.Could you suggest me how i shall approach for now?I mean should I also take care of the layering and stuff since i love it in live performances or should i only work with piano sounds for now? It's a 2 man band-I handle the piano/guitar at once and i have an accompanist on tabla with me. 🙏🏻please help
Finally got to watch this one! So glad I did 😍 I accompany myself on the piano while I sing and have been wanting to take my playing up a notch and this makes SO much sense.
Hi, can I add any notes in a chord for the fill ins? Or should I play within the triads of the chords? Let's say it's a G chord, can I play E and F# passing notes? I don't know exactly the rules for that. Thanks in advance.
Hi, great video, love it. Can you tell me what software you are using to get the virtual piano with the light up keys, is it something like midiculous? It's very clear and easy to follow. Thanks so much. Michelle
sir you are awesome i am searching for good accompaniment lesson and after finding you my search is over big fan from india but please please make lesson on ellie goulding first time piano accompaniment please sir i request you
Creative Piano Academy yes! Exactly! I hope you make that tutorial because I feel that many people also want to learn that.. Good luck!! Thanks for your free tutorials!
YOU use inversions to keep the transition tight from one chord to the next so that you are not jumping all over the place .look at it as the ROAD LEAST TRAVELED ,in a triad there are only three choices for inversions.
@@genesysification How about which inversion do I use? because inversions have different sound although they are all the same chord. Do I pick the easiest one to travel or the best sound that fits in the song that Im playing?
IT really depends on what your preference if you are singing you may go for what sounds best and helps to blend the sound, or most people who are playing in a band go for transition .

Can you do some hymns? Pleaseeeee
Hi Auburn. I'm not sure. I haven't really thought about hymns allthough they seem to be in demand. I'll have a think on what I could potentially do.
Creative Piano Academy thanks for your reply
Where can I get a good piano tone like in this video .. All that i have is not feeling good...
