    I don't usually bother with these improvisation type of lessons, because I don't really have a musical ear and get too frustrated, however, I pushed on with this lesson for an hour or so and then things suddenly clicked. I ended up composing quite a good melody that I'm really proud of.
    This lesson has ended up really enhancing my enjoyment of the piano. Thanks Josep

    • @Creativepianoacademy

      Wow, very good to hear Nick. Thats the key with imrpov. Its easy to get overwhelmed so we can start out by limiting things which reduces overwhelm and confusion. And hey, some great riffs are written just using a basic chord progression and 3 notes. Nothing wrong with it.

      Nick ramsdale same honestly. I actually wound up making a really mice sounding 6, 4, 1, 5 progression in D maj and I would have never been able to do it without this guy.

    The brilliance in your teaching has been the consistency in the way you communicate how to unleash the creativity of your mind. My piano journey really started with you. Not a single lesson failed to deliver, many in profoundly satisfying ways. I just can't believe how all the lessons have managed to weave their way into my thinking as I just let my mind go. Many times, I catch myself doing things that all point back to something that came from you. I'm 71 now and fulfilling the dream of a lifetime. It matters when you make a difference in someone's life. When you do something for yourself, creatively, nothing really compares. What you tell your students is the truth. Thank you for sharing what you discovered in your own journey.

    Wooooooow i was noodling around in F-major just before i clicked the notification! I just realized that its amazing when playing Major seventh(or fifth) in left hand and any notes in right hand in any scale!

    Beginners, intermediate and advanced can really appreciate this teaching as a “gem.” Teaching piano could sometimes be overwhelming and intimidating BUT YOU make it YT FRIENDLY, and it defines the benchmark of your channel: CREATIVITY! When teaching becomes too complicated (students lose the fun part) soon they lose the interest and eventually talents wasted! Extremely grateful Creative Piano Academy!

    A lot of people like this video Josef. Purrrfect lesson for me. Very good for hand independence hence had to spend and will have to spend time on getting the left hand down so i don't have think about it. I noodled around in the key of E and could avoid the 2 keys that have become loud and discordent. Cheers, and thanks.

    I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Joseph's videos and courses, but pretty new at it (5 months). So I haven't been through them all and just discovered this one. What fun! I'm not yet accomplished enough to "just sit and play around" and have it sound good, even to me. Even with this simple idea of a repeating left hand chord progression and noodling around in the same key with right hand, I can't keep my left hand going steadily when I start playing with right hand. I'm practicing, I'll get there. But meanwhile I found a way to play this way that is so fun! Maybe most people already get this - but it's new to me. I wrote the left hand chord progression in MuseScore and then looped it playing midi-out on my piano. Then I play around right hand only. It sounds good and all coming from the piano as if I were doing it. It's a crutch - or maybe a stepping stone, but a great way for me to have a first experience at my own creative improvisation at the piano. Thank you Joseph!
    I'm going to try the same idea with a minor chord progression and a blues chord progression, I think that should be fun too.

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent. A crutch isn’t a crutch if you acknowledge it and be realistic about the skill you are developing. In this video it’s all about developing that war for melody so no need to worry about both hands. That can come later. 👍

    Hey ! First of all .. you are a Really Great Teacher and a Really good Pianist. I startet playing Piano 4 Months Ago and I composed a lot of Tracks. But why do u Take every time the C Major Scale as a example? :D Soon After I started i figured out that the C major Scale is for me personally the most boring and popish Scale out there :P My favorite Scale in the Moment is the D#minor Scale...
    Maybe its just my Personal opionion because i mostly listen to Jazz and R&B. Anyway Thanks for all your free lessons !

      Yeah, I get it. Becuase as A teacher on youtube i have to appeal to the most amount of people. I have tutorials in different keys but I figure in C major, most people can give it a go. Those who are more advanced can take the concepts and transpose them to different keys anyway.

      Creative Piano Academy as soon as I watched the video, I was straight on it, the left hand chord progression was familiar from one of your other videos so that helped, it was great fun because after searching for nice sounding notes following your guide for the right hand notes, for the first time if felt like I was jamming and being creative, it freed me up to be expressive, so I played until my hands burned with muscle ache and loved every minute. I’m still a newbie to piano but luckily I’m aiming to practice at least once a day. Inspiration is the driving force to a good practice so thanks again.

But then I realised that I need to take a step back and go through this process first, it is like a must-do step before I write that melody. Thanks Josef! Maybe a stupid question... But what’s the difference between scales and chord progressions? What is the relation between them? If I’m correct scales are for melody and chords for harmony. But do the chords you use only contain the notes of that scale? Is it the rule that you only use notes from the scale to form a chord progression? So you need to stay in the key of c major for instance. If you know what I mean. I’m bit confused about that...

    You should really do a small series on how to compose, like the basics. I know all my major and minor chords and scales. And my major 7th, minor 7th & have watched almost every single video that you have on the Piano Patterns playlist but all I can play that sounds good is what ive learned from you. I want to be able to create out of what i know. Like all the chords i know. I Cant for some reason. On guitar i can easily solo and play like nothing but Piano i cant. PLEASE PLEASE take this into consideration. You literally are the best piano teacher on here and i want to learn from you. You have the most beautiful melodic style of playing and thats what i want. I can already play what ive learned from you but i want to be able to compose my own melodic stuff. Does that make sense? Either way thank you so much for making me a better player.

      Hey, I can explore a few things like this but EXACTLY what you are talking about is one of the core focuses of a course i'm working on. Creative piano patterns. This contains 30 melodic patterns like the ones on my channel but more. And for most of them I go into how to take them further and get creative. Basically, turn them into pieces of music and put your own spin on them.

      TheInvationCo I’m exactly the same. The guitar brings melodies easily, no real effort, but on the piano I can’t get into the same mindset - I don’t even think with the guitar - perhaps I’ve answered my own question.

    Hey josef, love your videos man. I really think you should touch into music theory a little bit, that's how I got so far so fast In the 2 years i have been playing. At first i didn't wanna know any of the theory behind it just wanted to play. But when you know theory, you can take it to new places, you know why things work the way they do and what sounds nice and what chords go together. You should start a series of music theory starting off with just the basic stuff like the note names and sharps and flats and scales and the circle of fifths and so on. I think it would be really good for your channel and your audience.

    I try to avoid using power chords because I feel it’s kind of a cliche. They sound gorgeous don’t get me wrong but I would like to use them here and there rather than all the time ya know?

      Absolutely. All things in layers but they are good door in to sound good fast.

    Joseph,you are truly amazing...I'm only in my 1st week of piano lessons (courtesy of your free TH-cam videos,lol) seriously, THANKS!! I have never played any instruments before but iv been singing for many years,so fortunately I have a decent ear to hear the right notes...however,your simple (yet highly informative instructions) make learning piano such fun and easy I must honestly say.You my friend,are a simple genius to be able to share your knowledge in simple easy to follow,progressive steps. Keep sharing your knowledge ...a warm heartfelt THANKS (all the way from India)

    Hey your channel is awsome man.I really want to thank you for the effort you put to teach us.if possible can you do a tutorial on writing motifs.
    cheers

    • @Creativepianoacademy
      @Creativepianoacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, however depending on the pattern, I would argue that 'some' of the melodic patterns I put out at the core of them are motifs. A strong musical idea which forms the centre of a piece of music. There's lots to explore with this so yeah, maybe i'll do a vid on it.
