Firstly, you ‘explain’ everything so well indeed…(and)…at the correct ‘pace’ for a 71+ years young-at-heart-and-mind-and-soul ‘Senior Citizen’ (beginner, like me)...(and)…make it ‘look’ so ‘easy’…though, NOT yet for me at this stage, may I add! But, (may I add), your ‘techniques’ sound absolutely awesome…”DHANYAVAAD!”…Pianote with Lisa.

    To sound busier and fuller:
    1. do more of what you are already doing 00:38
    2. adding passing notes 2:18
    3. play notes that compliment the root note 3:38
    4. add octaves 7:00

Your videos hit different. You have a way of stepping out from the common music theory curriculum way of teaching this stuff.

    Brilliant. 🎉

Absolutely terrific. I urge anyone watching to write it down on the music staff. Lisa's background must be so far from the pedagogic classical music teacher line it is magic. I realised that when playing direct from the written arpeggios and broken chords I was happily following the notes without really getting the diatonic relationship clear. When I tried to write down the 4 basic things that is play the broken chords against the individual arpeggio notes then I was mentally dropping into the scale of the chord I had in the bass on the right hand so C E G when I went to the inversion with E in the bass my head was saying G# as in the E Major not G as in C Major. Now she is introducing a swing rhythm. Wonderful

@Soulful Notes Thank You I have been trying to see where I could fit in with you. I am afraid I have no interest in popular music. I was quite baffled by your constant use of the plagal cadence but now I understand. I know much of the theory ( I love it) Circle of Fifths, Giant Steps, 6th Diminished Scale Barry Harris no problem but several heart operations have left my fingers still at "Mary had a little lamb". Jazz syncopation, swing is my thing. Willie The Lion Smith, Art Tatum I love but slow blues a la New Orleans is more likely to be in my league. Any suggestions gratefully received. 💖

That meant learning to play a song in two weeks. Now I'm interested in playing songs on the spot without doing the same thing all over. This video is right on spot and gave me just what I needed! I hope in time I'll get better and better and dwell into the other awesome things you share on this channel! Lots of love, Otilia

Hi Lisa! I am a college professor, so I know good education when it is presented. But, I am a nascent (beginning) piano player. Your approach is just excellent! I will echo Michael Forbes, yodvworld, Luc and others' comments: you break down the lesson to a basic level, and at a speed that is appropriate for beginners, like me! Your upbeat attitude convinces me that I can get better at the piano if I keep up the exercises you display! I'll be back for more lessons at Pianote! Bernie.

Merci for this. Not even two weeks into learning piano after a 50 year failed attempt. You not only helped me to start playing music, but also talking music. I have practiced scales and chords, but have zero music theory, except what I've been getting by being a passive spectator since I like music channels. But you explained the how of those words.
BTW Merci is Canadian for Thanks, Eh?

You've got the talent to make music teaching as musical instead of mechanical! Thanks!

You are so good at these videos! I already use many of these techniques, but they way you go about teaching them is so satisfying and makes me inspired to play even more.

You love what you do and it shows. You take everything about learning and break it down into segments to practice. Amazing what this does to build confidence.
