Great video as always, interesting and informative driving advice too. I'm still hoping to set off on 1st Feb 2025 having almost completed all my van mods very recently.
@@MispronouncedAdventures Norway has always been on my list of countries I want to visit at some point in my life. After watching your videos its confirmed my thoughts! Such a pretty place to be. I'm enjoying watching your videos!
Some beautiful shots there Alex,I didn’t fancy the look of that car park…..!! Been a strange week here in Devon with the weather this week,Snow and Sun but nothing like up where you are,Safe travels buddy.
Thank you very much. Yes some of the lay-by and car parks in Norway were very icy. Presumably they have been compacted snow like everywhere else and then with the recent temperature increase melted and then re-froze
Just an advice, all-terrain tyres are not made for ice, trust me. And you will also have problems with the insurance companies if they see it in an accident here in Norway during winter. So if you are going to Scandinavia during winter, get some Nokian Hakkapeliitta 👍🏻
I had no issues for thousands of miles of roads I drove up there, they do have there 3PMSF rated so legal up there and won’t be an insurance issue. I know many who have used them up there, a few Nordic friends with larger vans as well. The being said I wouldn’t be up there during the transition period between autumn and winter or winter and spring ( which i why I was leaving ) , way to much ice around then, and definitely wouldn’t be there during that time without studs, way to must of a risk of slipping But this trip was February/March and I had no issues on the compact snow and crush ice roads, as that the tread doing the work, you could emergency stop the van on those roads no issue. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta is a great tyre, I did look into them on my first trip up there in the winter, and was open to swapping over if needed, but I never had any traction or stopping issues so I didn’t in the end.
I do appreciate the comment and the offer of Advice, get a few comments on the subject of tyres but also have Nordic friends who say it’s no problem with a KO2 use in the winter as long as you’re not there during the transition between seasons
This coming winter I don’t plan to be on the Norwegian coast as much were the temperatures are more mild. An ice is more of a risk. plan to be the interior of northern Norway, Sweden and Finland
I know everyone recommends Lofoten by habit. But you should pay Senja a visit ☺️ Same landscape as Lofoten, and shorter distance in to Sweden or Finland if you want to return that way. A lot of great winter beaches to visit and peaks to hike.
Yeah I definitely feel the Lofoten and Tromsø are The classic knee-jerk reaction of places to see. I might not have time this year but definitely planning next year a lot more places to see
This in an old video from winter season 1, winter season 2 I made an arctic tips and tricks video with lots of the information I learnt. Season 3 I also show a lot of how I prepared the van. And yes I do have lots of lights
Alex, this one was absolutely stunning and beautiful. Been out of town and am now catching up on all your videos. The wife and I enjoyed this one in particular. Looking forward to watching the last few. Question; what model of drone are you using?
I hope you both enjoy the catch up on my videos! Drone wise I’ve been using a old DJI spark, I really wouldn’t recommended it. It gives me so many technical issues while flying with connections that I’m surprised sometimes I can get usable footage
@@MispronouncedAdventures thanks for the reply, and drone advice! There is a channel you should checkout, time permitting - "Adventure Van Man" - think you would like it. Cheers!
@ Norwegian coastline in March will potentially be slippy with black ice because of mild temperatures or warm enough that the ice on the roads has all melted. I generally leave the Nordic by March when I get slipper
Awesome drone footage of the 🇧🇻 fjords 😍 Alex you mentioned in your Vlog if you're not used to driving in snow conditions to get the feel and confidence take the flatter roads of Sweden/Finland have you taken the main routes E4/ E10 or E45 in Sweden? If so are they fairly flattish and toll roads to head North 😊
Thank you very much! Yeah I feel the roads in Sweden and Finland can be more forgiving to learn on. Sweden I took the E4 & E10, and Finland the E8. I’m sure given those countries terrain in those area there would be plenty other suitable roads
Yes I definitely wouldn’t be in Northern Scandinavia between autumn to winter and winter to spring without studs, to much ice. However I personally found in February I found the few thousand mile I did perfectly fine as the roads were mostly compact snow and crushed ice. Towards the end of the trip when the conditions were getting to around zero and there was a lot more thaw and refreezing ice it was time to leave as I didn’t have stud.
@@MispronouncedAdventures As I said, there are two types of winter tires without studs, those for main Europa and those for the Scandinavian market. They are much better than your tires in these conditions, but if you are depending on your car in the North, you need stud tires. There are also many who use chains, and all lorries need those to be allowed to drive in Norway winter times. On smaller vehicles, norwegians dont use chains.
Yeah I only saw chains used on larger trucks. I am aware non studded winter tyre market is different for Europe and Nordic markets, but if you are living up there all winter it would make sense to use a studded.
@@MispronouncedAdventures In many towns, there is a fee if you want to drive with studs, but there is a need of at least 30% who are driving with studs, to tear up the ice.
Yes that was my understanding places like Stockholm they weren’t allowed studs in the city? I can also fully understand what you mean by studs tearing up the ice and that being a good thing!
“Very poor” is a bit of a exaggeration, yeah it’s could be better at times for sure, normally if it’s driving scene if I forget turn down the cabin heaters fan then background noise cuts down the voice or when In wind. Season 2 I do use wireless mines for some shots.
Incredibly beautiful, no one could drive past that and not stop to take a billion photos.
It makes driving so difficult! Or it makes getting anywhere so difficult! I just want to stop every five minutes to take photographs
i could because i live there :)
@@kendexter I'm jealous!
Wow! This was like watching something on the nature channel. Incredible drone footage and music to match. Great job!
Fantastic compliment thank you! I do plan on upgrading the drone at some point. The Spark is pretty limited

That was some amazing footage of the beautiful snowy mountain landscapes.

It’s simply stunning!
The production on this is outstanding Alex. Each one better than the last. The location helps of course 👍
it’s hard not to get good footage here the place just looks incredible.
Amazed how the little spark coped in the snow..
The snow and cold hasn’t been an issue for the spark, just the general connection issues I always get
Man... that landscape looks beautiful! Can't wait until I can upgrade the car and get a van 😁
The Norwegian coast has been stunning

Alan used to do some rallying years ago and just put a row of studs on the inside edge of the tyres, good for changeable conditions 🙂
I had looked into the options and possibilities of add-on studs

Glad you liked it. My last 3 Nordic Winter trips have been early January to early March
@MispronouncedAdventures cool, I'm planning on going mid March to do the tromso - Lofoten route.
Do you think road conditions are better this time?
@ Norwegian coastline in March will potentially be slippy with black ice because of mild temperatures or warm enough that the ice on the roads has all melted.

@@MispronouncedAdventures Do you think it´s dangerous to do the Tromso - Loften road by motorhome by mid March then?
It could be done safely, consider switching to studded tyres out there. But it might of warmed enough up there it’s not icey at all
