I am delighted that Datura Noir ranks so high on your Lutens favourites list! I almost used up my 50 ml bottle and just purchased a new 100 ml - I must have been really wearing it a lot in the last year. Its just a wonderful creamy tuberose. I love to layer it with almondy or coconutty scents, too.
Fleurs d'Oranger is my favorite, but I have to be in the mood for it.
Its sooo strong!
I agree - can be harsh at first never creamy throughout - beautiful - but I don't find it to last long on my skin in particular- maybe just on my skin

Almond is very dominant in Datura Noir. It smells a lot like marzipan, coconut, tuberose, with the myrrh osmanthis cutting through it with like a menthol blast that cuts through the sweetness. It also has that sun lotion kind of scent but way way way better than that.
I love all of these too! Also love Nuit de Cellophane which I finally purchased in 2019. Santal Majuscule, Ambre Sultanand Datura Noir 👌
so far I have Chergui and I really love it, Un Bois Vanille is too sweet for me, I just ordered some new samples I can't wait to try them out before I invest in a big bottle; and Datura noir, you said almond notes ooooh I got to try it for real!!!!

Love Serge Lutens house. I own bottles of MKK, Datura Noir, A la Nuit, Un Bois Vanille, and several bottles of Daim Blond (my favourite). I'm liking Un Participe Passe and looking to get that one. I think Datura Noir will be my SOTD. Great video, Arlene.

@@tattsab It's good in small doses. Faintly licoricey. It stays fairly linear. I tend to layer it also.

It is 4am and can't sleep. I saw a review that included Gris Clair and realized that other than Un Bois Vanille, I haven't worn my Serge Lutens. So, I did a search and was excited to find this video. Yeah! My first was La Fille de Berlin. Of the five you mentioned, I only have Datura Noire. I have to give the others ones a sniff.

I put my SL perfumes aside, but I am rediscovering them. I own Ambre Sultan, Orpheline, Serge Noire, Chergui, Five O´Clock...
I am in LOVE with Jeux de Peau❣️It’s such a shame that it’s only available in the bell jar through the SL website now. The only other one I’ve tried is Fille en Aiguilles, which I love as well! Thank you for sharing your list because I MUST try more from this house 🥰
The name for this fragrance, "Jeux de peau", is a lovely pun based on the sport "jeu de paume" (or "jeu de paulme", the precursor of modern tennis as played centuries ago at the French court). The French words "peau" (skin) and "paume" (palm) sound similar. Both are illustrated by the bakery notes, in my view, as we knead bread with the naked palms of our hands. If you dig a little, you will see that many fragrances by Serge Lutens are named after popular French expressions. Examples: Fille en Aiguilles (from the French expression "de fil en aiguille" (one thing leading to another) and fille en talons aiguilles (girl in stilettos); Santal Majuscule (from the French expression "sans la majuscule" (lower case) but of course in this case the sandalwood is "avec la majuscule" (in capital letters); Dent de Lait (from the French expression "dents de lait" (baby teeth) has both milky and metallic notes; La Fille de Berlin is a reference to the popular novel "La Fille de Merlin" (Merlin's Daughter) and to Marlene Dietrich; and so on. I love your channel, and I'm also Canadian (French Canadian, as you can imagine). As a francophone and a translator, I love to see how some houses like SL come up with names that are un-translatable!

I just got in santal majascule and chergui but I'm wearing santal first and I LOVE this both are blind buys and so glad the rose on this dont stand out really strong on my skin this is a relaxing scent for me hopefully it will work in heat as well and I have 4 Now .
Omg, I know you love gourmands, have you tried Brazilian Crush by Sol de Janeiro. It’s to die for! Smells delicious, like caramel. Supposed to smell like pastachio, almond, coconut and caramel! I love it so much even though it’s a body mist. It smells amazing, love to spray it when getting out of the shower. The body cream is amazing also, it’s a must try for sure. Sephora carries it, they have a small travel size for $25 with body mist, cream and shower gel to try. You won’t be disappointed, I promise!!
A few people have suggested this one for me to try but I haven't yet. I will definitely try it when I can. It sounds sooo yummy! :)
I love Datura Noir. For me it has a soapy sheer tuberose note that I love. One the few scents that I own a bub. The other is Chergui!

I only own a bottle of surge lutens n its l'eau froide. I really love the smell but some people said it smells weird😀
I think of all the perfume houses I have more favorites from Serge Lutens..... well, might be a tie with Guerlain :) I love all of those you mentioned in the list under the video, with the exception of MKK. I just can't get through it because on me it smells like a diaper bag and I just can't get separate it from that association, sadly. I also love Fumerie Turque, Five O'Clock Gingembre, Arabie, El Atttarine, La Myrrhe, Vitriol d'Oeillet, De Profundus, Santal de Mysore...... there are some that I haven't been able to test yet (really want to try Bapteme du Feu) and there are few that I can't wear for one reason or another like the MKK. But it's an amazing house and I feel that most of Serge Luten's fragrances lean at least a tiny bit gourmand. He really likes them.

I love your vids!! I've become a bit of a 'fragrancehead' during the quarantine and everything you say is spot on! Your rec for Remember Me by Jovoy made me order a sample and I'M IN LOVE. Also your warnings about the off putting scent in a lot of Mancera and Montale perfumes were so correct. Most of them smell like rubbing alcohol or burning rubber to me. Although the Black Vanilla by Mancera is quite lovely. I'm just now getting into Serge Lutens, and I think they are such a creative and artistic perfume house :)

I believe the name refers to Serge Lutens' memory of the familiar sensation he experienced as a child when buying bread fresh from the bakery, and holding the warm loaves to his cheeks as he walked home. I took a risk and blind bought this one, and now have 2 back up bottles because I am mental for it. Love most Lutens, me.

Im not a big fan of Ambre Sultan although I have a full bottle. Its too basic a d straightforward an amber scent for my liking. Ive never tried the discontinued Jeux de Peau but its on my radar and would probably fit in with the rest of my #2 Serg Lutens.

I know what you mean about each man has a smell - The few men I've loved in my life - part of why I loved them - was the way they smelled- may sound strange but I can't be the only one - I could stand next to them all day and it wasn't their cologne

Pheromones smell like hedione, also known jasmin and tuberose air accord. ITS REALLY TRUE. I compared to my own.
Hedione smells lovely...quite fresh clean and slightly sweet and salty to my nose. :)
The story behind Jeux de peau is about his childhood going to bakery to buy bread and how he was fascinated by the baker who touched the bread dough and the way the smell of the bread felt on his cheeks.. he is very poetic with his perfumes 😊

I don't get coconut OR tuberose from Datura Noir, to me it's a lot more abstract of a scent but I like it. Now, if you want an insanely creamy tuberose, Diptyque's Do Son is unmatched, a million times better than FM's Carnal Flower even.
Ahh yes I love Do Son! It's one of the best tuberose perfumes out there for sure :)
I own Un Bois Vanille. I've tried a couple of them but they were so bad. I mean just chemical and off putting. I really want to get my hands on some more samples because I love weird and different and unique. I feel like I really want to love them but I don't know enough yet.
Haven't tried it because I don't care for vanilla based fragrances- they are usually too basic for me - but I'm sure there's nothing basic about this seeing its Serge Lutens!

Oh your number 1 stinks so bad to me. I got the sample based on another of your videos. It smells like stale movie butter popcorn. I tried it multiple times and I hate it. Lol. It's amazing to me how different we all are as humans. However, that's what makes us fun and interesting. I do to want to smell like popcorn or b.o. no animalic scents for me. Lol

Give it time. A few months . Come back to it . If you’re just getting to Musc or AOUDS… it can be challenging. Especially patchouli and tobacco or honey .
