  • See how I attache the top of the guitar to the sides. Then I tackle making some herringbone inlay strips with native Missouri wood that I cut right here on my farm.

    I enjoy your channel tremendously! Sometimes I'll have you on for hours. I grew up sitting beside and watching my grandfather work on everything from watches, to musical instruments. Now I'm his age then! --- Watching you're methods of commonsense repair often reminds me of my youth. You have a good personality.

    Great job...love to see you at work :) What if you did cut the reces for the armrest in the top first. Then you could easily trace it to the padouk. Also: when cutting a piece of wood with a knive ( the side joints for instance) make a carve and then cut away the waste side in between cuts so you keep more room for the kniveblade. Looks like more work but it saves time in the end and it keeps your cut more prestine.

    Jerry, I'd really like to See how you cut that inner tube. All I can find on the web is people cutting shorter strips.
    I do understand cutting in a spiral will yield a longer band but I just can't wrap my head around how to start that.
    If I was dealing with a flat square or circle, I could do that fine.
    I know it is a simple concept but I often have difficulty visualizing simple concepts. (I'm ADHD)
    I am sure I'm not the only one who would benefit, from actually Seeing how you do that.
    If you could plug in the visual aid, as a tip, to a future video, that would be fantastic.

    I've had the same issue with dust produced by the dremel or sander and my solution has been to use my small vacuum cleaner and just lay the hose close to my work. It takes nearly all the dust right out of the air near my tool and since it has a hepa filter, non of it gets into the air in the room.

    Been looking forward to this step. I loved the idea of opening up the back of the mold for access to fine tune clearances (glad to see you finally got "around to it) :Q, Brilliant! The unwrapped rigidity and resonance test (after releasing rubber hold-downs & testing the entire top all the way around for consistent tone & sustain) turned out phenomenally! Excellent work, Jerry! Herringbone turned out nice too and will look great. So no staining of the guitar, just finishing and coating "ala natural" is what you're envisioning?

If you need some ways to approach this watch rjbwoodturner who made hereingbone penblanks, and also bingewatch some cutting board videos, where they build this up from larger strips to save a lot of time. Another great looking guitar in the making! I noticed you trimmed the kerf (you said it was a hit high). Is this something you normally do to get a good fit of binding against the top? Perhaps installing the kerfing is a bit tricky. Just wondering. I have been toying with the idea of trying a build myself some day.

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The kerf was installed slightly above the edge of the sides. So cutting down the kerf to match the sides it's something you need to do.
