- This review is about Bedrock Sandals 3D Adventure model, a great piece of gear for your backpack trips. Weighing in at 10 ounces per sandal (compared to 1 lb., 12 ounces for Keen Newport Sandals!!!), these are a big weight saver for backpackers, though there are a few tradeoffs (open toe vs. closed toe protection being the most notable). Definitely worth a serious look. In this video, I run through the features and what I like about this product, as well as provide some comments on breaking them in before your first use out on the trail.

That was a nice review of the Bedrock sandals. The sandals are so awesome. I bought a pair of these because I had very very extremely wide feet. My foot is 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe with very fat wide toe that are equally straight across. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots 35 years ago & flip flops is the only Footwear that will fit. But they are very difficult to put on because my toes are wider than the flip flops straps. They are also awesome to hike in. I love how they are so easy to put on then flip flops especially with someone who has extremely wide feet. Thank you for the review.
Thanks Mack! Agree - Bedrock Sandals rock!!!!!
Best sandals!
Hi! Im bout to buy the 3d version but i don't know the right size for me still... 12 maybe is too much even though the bedrock recommends adding 1.5-2 cm more, actually my feet are 27,5cm and my sandals are 28 cm long but although my heel sticks out a bit... Wich size do you recommend? Thanks a lot!
I used the template they provide on-line and it worked well for my fit. Definitely want to be sure your heel doesn't go past the back of the sandal. Best to err on the larger size than too small.
I’m looking for a thru hiking sandal, ideally as my main shoe and not just a camp shoe. I have wide sweaty feet and want max breathability of a sandal but also excellent tread for slippery rock and cushion for big miles. Don’t need super huge cushion though and don’t want to sacrifice too much groundfeel. Which sandals would you recommend, esp between Cairn 3D and other bedrock models?
Ahh - well, great question! I really like my Bedrock Cairn 3Ds and haven’t tried their other models so can’t advise on them. With that noted, my advice would be to make sure you use them for a number of shorter and longer hikes before you head out on a through -hike, not so much to break them in, but to get your feet used to the thong between your toes! And, if your hike involves big downhill gradients, I’d be sure to include some test hikes in that as well. For the only shoe on a long hike, I’d lean more toward a Keen sandal or Chaco Z1 Classic sandals.
@@fourbrothersgear thanks. Yeah, I’m testing out lots of shoes and gear before my next thru hike. Not my first rodeo. Spent about $1500 on shoes this year looking for right one. I’m transitioning from zero drop to zero drop and minimalist. I’ve seen other hikers on YT thru hike successfully with Lunas and bedrocks. And of course some people just go barefoot. Glad you still like the Cairns 3D. Yes, I’m most concerned about the toe thong. People seem to get used to it fast and some put lubricant on it. Sandals without toe thongs can lead to foot sliding forward esp when wet. Keens are robust and but too heavy and have a big heel toe drop. Chacos too thick too. I’ll get my cairns soon and give them a shot.
Are the 3D significantly stiffer and least bendy than the regular cairns?
Ah - now that I do not know! I can share however that I find the 3D to be incredibly comfortable and flexible, yet stiff enough that even when stepping on jagged rocks, my feet are protected and the soles are thick enough that there are no undue pressure points
What is the color of the sandal on the video?
It's black
@@fourbrothersgear Are you sure that isn't Charcoal?
Black
The paracord toe strap is 70% thicker than competitors, making it uncomfortable. The textured footbed is too aggressive, causing hotspots and reminiscent of the pattern used in 1980s sandals. Adding 6mm of softer material inlayed into the footbed, while keeping the stiffer foam in the midsole at 12mm would improve comfort significantly while keeping durability.
Thanks for the comments. I find these super comfortable though your point about the paracord is interesting. Seems like every summer when I get these out it takes a week perhaps for my feet to adjust to the paracord before not noticing it! Other than that, these work well for me.
Nice video but I prefer the non 3d version of either the pro or non pro… owned a few pairs for two years now colors black torquise burgundy and might get another two more coyote and charcoal … great investment
Can you clarify pros/cons of the pro and non pro for you? I’m looking for a hiking sandal. Thanks for any suggestions.
Lost me at arch support .
They have a version with no arch support. He's reviewing the 3D version, but the regular Cairns have no arch support.
Also God doesn't exist. Have a nice day!
