No comparison between Chaco's or any Bedrocks. Chaco's are bricks. Bedrock got it all wrong on the new 3D Cairn Pro Adventures. I have used the Cairn Pro Adventure for two years. Never any issue at all on any terrain for hiking or backpacking. The new 3D Pro is a considerable "STIFFER" sole. Not cushion. They also added a much more "textured" foot bed surface. Not needed, and on;y causes friction. Between the thicker and stiffer sole and the more textured foot bed, it is a very bad mix. I had been wearing my previous Cairn Pro Adventures from last year frequently for three months. Very good callous build up and feet well conditioned from all day wear, hikes, and backpacking trips. Wore the new 3D Pro and had two big ass heel blisters that destroyed my callous build up deeply in just a five mile hike. Also skin abrasion between toes on one foot. I returned them for a full refund, and bought another pair of last years design, Cairn Pro Adventure. Took those straight out of the box and went on a ten mile backpack trip. Not one issue with the older design. Makes me wonder if you ever put the new 3Ds to even a moderate trail test.
Good Review, Thank you. I run everyday on my 3d's on rough Colorado mountain trails and find them very secure and comfortable. They have slightly more cushion then the Cairn Pro's. The best part of Bedrock sandals is gaining Sun tanned feet:-)
Been looking forward to some 3D reviews. I've got the original Cairns and love everything about them except for the footbed, which I find does not offer enough shock absorption for multi-day hikes (complete with camping gear). I'm used to going barefoot but find the Cairns jarring. It seems that the 3Ds solve this problem.
Hello I have a question? I'm interested in getting a pair of Bedrock sandals. Do the straps loosen up wide enough for somebody who has a wide foot to fit in. I have a very very wide foot 4 EEEE with fat wide toe. I don't know if they come in wide I looked on the website but it's not saying anything. Thank you you have a nice day.
I have the Cairn Pro. I love them. I do long hikes and backpacking adventures in them. Even muddy ADK summit hikes. I do not like the 3D versions because the stones, pebbles and other debris do not clear out of them as quickly as thef do on the flat, regular, Adventure Pros. They would certainly aid in grip on steep, wet sections but the reduced debris clearing is a show stopper for me. Glad you enjoy them too.
Great review. Will the grip on the soles wear down quickly in an urban environment? I need a pair of sandals that I can use in natural and urban environment
I ordered the 3Ds, wore them around for a few days, and then went backpacking in the Ozarks with them. I love 'em! They are far more comfortable than my hiking shoes (Merrell All Out Blaze). And that says a lot, because I've always liked my Merrells. I noticed that my feet feel very refreshed after hiking in the Bedrocks- which I never really experienced in my Merrells. As much as I like the 3Ds, a part of me wishes I had gone with the standard Cairn, for the added flexibility and flat footbed. Personally, I don't think the contoured footbed on the 3Ds provides any benefit as I walk in them. And as dense as the footbed material is, I'm sure the Standard Cairns would provide just as good of protection against rocks and such. I guess that just means I'll have to have two pairs. Oh darn!
@@Bungzy Yeah, my next pair is definitely going to have the Pro sole. The standard sole is still really good. But it would be nice to have that extra bit of grip in really wet conditions.
Love the cairn pro. Great camp and hanging out sandal which allow the feet to breathe and recover. Recently saved my bacon when I couldn't get a shoe on over a toe injury. Zero drop takes a bit of acclimating depending on what type of footwear one has been wearing. Thanks for the comparison!
You're okay with fly-fishing in them but not backpacking? I broke three toes when my foot slid between rocks fly-fishing. The most I get hiking in sandals is a stubbed toe. Thanks for the review though. I went without the 3D since I have flat feet.
I guess it depends on where you fly-fish and how you do it. I was in the Smokies where it's not uncommon to crawl over rocks and climb through rhododendron such getting to the next hole. One mile of fly-fishing is more work than ten miles of hiking in those conditions. I went up a size on my Cairn Pro so I would have a little more rubber on the front edge to reduce stubbing. As to fly-fishing, I moved to Chota wading shoes. That six mile hike back to the car with broken toes wasn't pleasant.
How are they on width? You said that your Chaco's were wides, but it doesn't look like Bedrock carries wide sizes. Do you feel that they provide enough sole for a wider foot?

You're pronouncing it wrong. Supposed to sound like air not are.
Chaco sandals suck, they come apart so easily. And their customer dept. does not help much when you reach for their help...
Chacos were a good option 20 yr ago, they did not want or see the importance of making light and comfortable sandals.... Long live the Bedrocks

Question. I’m sure you don’t remove your trail shoes when crossing water. How long does it generally take for your shoes and wool socks to dry?
