Still seems like nothing beats the ease of repair on the real birks… I’ve replaced uppers/footbeds/soles so many times it’s not even the same original shoe anymore…

I really wanted some Bedrock sandals. I even bought them. I had to return them because they don't come in half sizes. So, you either get a too-small sandal or a too-big sandal. Yes, I am aware that you can adjust the straps to compensate, but it's not a substitute for proper sizing. No matter what you do with the straps, you cannot make a too-big toe box magically smaller. It's still too big and your feet rattle around inside laterally, and they pinch into unattractive and uncomfortable shape because there's too much leather. If you fit a full size perfectly, the Bedrock sandals are awesome. If you're like me, you'll be left wishing they fit. I really wish they did, but they just don't. I think it was a stupid choice to only do full sizes.
I love love love my bedrock mountain clogs. I wear them everywhere for everything. And they have such a cool look too. The adjustability is great. Highly suggest!
I’ve been wearing londons as my everyday work shoe for 4 years now. Had them resoled after about a year with vibrams version of the birk sole and they are still going strong. I work in a warehouse and I’m on my feet for 8+ hours a day at work. Nothing compares to the comfort of the London. It’s that Birkenstock arch support.
@@Sturnburn772 sorry, I’m not sure. imagine the birk sole but without the birk pattern and instead a rough texture all over and vibram embossed about every 2-3 inches. The guy at my local shoe repair shop suggested it right off the bat. The foam is almost identical though. But after about 2 1/2 years they’re still in great shape.
There’s no comparison really. I have plantar fasciitis. I like Birkenstocks because of the arch support and it molds to your feet. That’s it. Nothing compares really.
I’m on my feet for about 6 hours a day, 4 days a week, managing a coffee shop. After wearing the Birkenstock A640s for about a year, I wanted to try something else out. The arch support of the Birks was great, and the polyurethane material, along with the steel toe and soles being super grippy even on a freshly mopped floor, made it a pretty good service industry shoe, while it lasted. However, despite the wide toe box, the rigid polyurethane rubbed against the inside of my right foot in a way that was worsening a little bunion I got there. After about a year, the sole started cracking pretty badly. Looking into other options, I figured all the things that supposedly make Bedrock’s clogs great for the outdoors would also make them ideal for service industry work. Plus, the more pliable leather upper wouldn’t aggravate my bunion. Turns out…I was right! 2 months in and they have been fantastic, even with my high arches. Plus, they are way more versatile than the A640s (which were good for standing for long periods, but not good for walking around a lot).

The Luca's are really nice and really cool but 168 dollars feels like a lot for something I'd just wear at home. Especially since I think a slipper should be cheap enough/rugged enough to go into dirty places. I wouldn't feel comfortable using the Lucas for all the tasks I use a house slipper for.
I bought a pair of the Birkenstock London in waxed leather about 12 years ago. I call them my Hobbit shoes even though hobbits don’t wear shoes. They have been great, resoled once so far. The leather doesn’t show any signs of wearing out. Probably last at least 20 years.
Hey, would you ever do a video on hospitality work shoes? I wear birkenstock work clogs and i'd love to see your take on alternatives as they wear out very quickly
There's a small business in Portugal the name is Goucha's handmade, they are produced with real leather and you can personalize the buckles and mix and match the parts they have. I will get some for me, but the factory is now on vacation. They are not very expensive...around 70euros or so.
Birkie makes a natural oil leather version. I have a 30yo pair that has been resoled several times as well as having a complete rebuild all new except for the leather. How can you have better leather than that.
Seems silly to use the suede birks when you're gonna count being suede against them. The oiled birks would've "scored" better at the same price, but I get that the suede ones are more popular.
I'm interested in why he chose the London birks instead of the Bostons, since the Bostons are the more popular model and they're $25 cheaper. I bought a pair of the taupe suede bostons at the mall just because I liked how they looked, and I wanted some clogs for just all around, easy sandals. I've worn Birkenstocks for 40 years, but wouldn't recommend any open or loose style for dirt trails. Stuff gets into them, and they don't provide secure footing. Even walking on sidewalks, you become master of picking up your dismounted sandal with your toes to shake out a tiny piece of grit.
