Just got done watching Two Distant Strangers after having already seen this one and I feel comfortable saying that this one is infinitely better. The ending is what distinguishes them the most. The ending to Joey's film is somewhat cynical in the sense that "no matter what we do (even talking to them), we're still going to get killed by cops". It's just downright depressing and doesn't bring anything new to the table. Every black man in America knows this. This short film, however, brings a much more optimistic view in its ending. It's not saying that black cops have to look out for black civilians. It's saying that because of our shared lived experiences, black people can find some sort of hope for the future through unity and through uplifting one another every day. "All we can do is live, brother."
Um, dude. this is a work of fiction. You won't get shot all willy-nilly like this.. Yea you'll be at a higher risk, but come on nobodies gonna fucking shoot you for any of the reasons the character got shot for in this film
@@GregLemons You missed the ENTIRE point of this short film if you're splitting hairs like this. It's supposed to be humorous representation of the fact that many cases of officer involved shootings of unarmed black men start off as something mundane but then escalate into fatal encounters. There's multiple reasons for this, but one major one is just the fact that non-violent crimes are overpoliced and put officers in situations where they feel they have to treat everyone as dangerous offenders.
@@blackomega4061 I mean, they do have to treat everyone as dangerous offenders. It's America, anyone could have a gun. So if its a humorous representation, don't take it seriously. Nobody will get shot for these reasons. Don't be so down, it's not a white vs black thing.. Not every white cop hates you and you can only trust black cops like that's a toxic message. You know not every cop is out to get you right?
@@GregLemons 1 Yes, black men have been shot by cops for reaching for their wallets after the cop told them to show their license, insurance card, etcetera. It's well known. 2 -- No, cops treating everyone like we're violent does not make sense. If someone is not acting threatening, reacting as if they were shows an inability to read body language (among other things).
@@GregLemons I never said it was white vs black thing. I literally even said in my first comment that the message of this film ISN'T that you should only trust black cops. I said it was about unity and uplifting one another. Also, instead of promoting a culture where cops have to treat everyone as violent offenders, why not address the root causes? Make the cops focus on ONLY catching the violent criminals instead of over policing non-violent crime, like drug dealers, drug addicts, or mentally ill people having panic attacks. Cops aren't capable of dealing with all that stuff. So make it easier for both them and us regular people by relieving cops of those responsibilities so that they won't HAVE to be put into situations where they escalate force with non-violent, unarmed individuals.
Aski [Fin] That statement is false. While there are almost twice as many white people killed by cops there's almost five times as many white people in the US population. So, statistically black people are well over twice as likely to be killed by cops than white people. Or is this supposed to be some kind of joke since in your statement you compare white men to black people which indicates men and women? Even then it doesn't work.
Aski [Fin] Where did you get that information from? Best I can come up with is the UC study over the years 2011-2014. According to that it was 3.5 times more likely to be shot for unarmed black people than unarmed white people while crime rate had no significant influence.
@@flightevolution8132 What statistics determine wheter someone unarmed *deserved to be executed by police*. I thought state violence was supposed to be controlled by a justice system.
You completely and deliberately misunderstand my point. I never justified that statement, as well as disagree with it. I just confirmed the statements: "16 u unarmed blacks were shot by cops In 2016" and "This video is exaggerating". That is all.
It gets worse. The company "Now This" asked the creator of this short film to publish her video on their site and twitter a few years ago. Wich she agreed to. "Now this" is actually one of the production companys behind the ripoff "two distant strangers"
I like how you added the last scene. I feel this short film could’ve ended with him in bed in a place of frustration, but you chose to make it hopeful. I respect that
I'm a year late but I completely agree, it turned the whole video from a funny TH-cam sketch to a short film with something to say, really nice note to end off on
I think the funniest part about the first one is that the cop changes his reason every time meaning he's literally only pulling the dude over for being black

"Are you holding a fire arm?"
*Has Both hands, wide open out the window*
"ARE YOU HOLDING A FIRE ARM!?"
"...Right now??"
Had me dead 😂
And him.
Oh sweet summer child.... you still think innocents don't get shot... how quaint!
Aski [Fin] implying whether or not you get shot is determined by chance
Statistics are a lie every situation is specific
Aski [Fin] A person being from a community with crime is insufficient cause for shooting them. Annoying, I know.
He was then shot for going off-screen in an onscreen area...

You completely and deliberately misunderstand my point. I never justified that statement, as well as disagree with it. I just confirmed the statements: "16 u unarmed blacks were shot by cops In 2016" and "This video is exaggerating". That is all.
