When I was in middle school, if I woke up and no one was home I immediately began convincing myself that I was the last person on earth and started planning on what buildings in my neighborhood to scavenge first. Then I would inevitably see someone and my hopes were dashed.

"And there's no re-doing life." Joel, I really expected a bit of philosophical monologue here, but it's just understated enough to sting without getting preachy. Like I felt time dilate around me for a second while I considered that line. You really went insaneo style on groundhog daying here. Maybe take it slower next time?
Your comment is inspiring to me, as well. I have a lot of anxiety and struggle with procrastination out of fear of failure and generally having adhd. But nothing will ever be perfect enough to get me to do things I've wanted or needed to for a long time, I have to be the one to initiate that. And it's hard. Caffeine, taking breaks, exposing myself to small bits of failure to remind myself that it isn't the end of the world, and asking for help from others makes it easier to overcome that initial hurdle. It's especially helpful, I find, to have a friend or partner give you a pep talk and maybe hang out with you while you do the thing (in person or over the phone/internet), and maybe make plans for a reward if you get things done. Like I was procrastinating research for an art project, so what my partner and I did was we watched an episode of a show together, then I spent time looking things up while they played a round in a video game (20-40min) and when they finished I got to take a break and keep watching. It worked well for me, but I'm autistic and adhd and what works for me might not be the right thing for everyone. I think the biggest thing really is finding people who will encourage, validate, and give honest but gentle feedback to you now and then when you're working o something you know is hard. And remember that you can practice the skills needed for it in a situation with less importance riding on it in order to gain confidence. Like I do a lot of rough draft ideas, practice art techniques needed, and then ask for feedback before applying those to the good copy version of the art. Taking breaks is also important. Very few things need to be done all in one go, and making a bit of progress is better than none
Legitimately great performances in this, even better than usual somehow. I feel like these talented young auteurs could maybe make something out of all this insaneo style monkeying around.
I don't usually re-watch a video immediately after it ends, just because of how good it was... but when I do, it's because it's a Joel Haver video. This is a mini masterpiece.
I feel like Ryan's hair going from slick to fluffy was an intentional creative decision to further accentuate his disbelief, anger and confusion over what Joel has done and is saying.
Followed this channel for a while, and even though I love your comedy skits, this kind of stuff, as rare as it is, is easily my favorite kind of content you make. My life was going great after a long depression in my early teens, then I hit college and stuff seems to be going back to the way it was. These next 2-ish years until I graduate are going to be really tough, but it’s very comforting to know I’m not the only one who, at one point or another, has felt this way. So frustrated with the everyday you just wanna explode and punch some random dude who totally doesn’t deserve it. (At least, that’s what I got from this video; this is one of those pieces of art I think everything takes something different from) Thank you, Joel.
I love getting a notification for a new Joel video and the feeling of trepidation that comes with not knowing whether I'm about to have a wholesome laugh or if I'm just going to be mind-fucked for the rest of the day.
Something about this Groundhog's Day effect awakens within me a dark pit of existential anxiety, so deep and so earth moving, that it feels I'm slowly being crushed by my own shoulders and collapsing into myself. Great vid! xoxoxo

@@Alex-fc8xn Hey man this write-up made me feel seen and encouraged in a way I haven't in a long time. Thanks :) and good luck out there
That's called psychosis, and is exactly what slavery looks like. It is what true hopelessness looks like, and you all clap. lmao
One of your best videos yet! Loved the script🥰
I fell down the stairs watching this thanks Joel
Lov you Obama we miss you 😢 xoxo 😘
Oh my God Mr president are you ok
Good thing you had your tan suit on
THATS FUCKING AWSOME EX-PRESIDENT OBAMA
@@natel42069 and a hamburger with FUCKING MUSTARD on it
I love how understanding of groundhog-daying he was
He always picks the perfect moment to do the full subversion. Great editing job also.
Wow this is one of your best one's yet Joel! Bravo!
Legitimately great performances in this, even better than usual somehow. I feel like these talented young auteurs could maybe make something out of all this insaneo style monkeying around.
Me, when I get notified of a new Joel Haver video: Another day in paradise.
I don't usually re-watch a video immediately after it ends, just because of how good it was... but when I do, it's because it's a Joel Haver video. This is a mini masterpiece.
i keep coming back to this one. this is probably the best writing you guys have ever done for a video
This is classic man. Deceptively simple, yet, elegant
Thanks!
Man this is so good. I'm impressed with Joels output and high average quality.
i think i´ve seen the majority of your videos by now and this one is by far my absolute favorite. awesome script, awesome acting. thanks :)
I feel like Ryan's hair going from slick to fluffy was an intentional creative decision to further accentuate his disbelief, anger and confusion over what Joel has done and is saying.
joels little hand punch at the very end is phenomenal
This was one of your best yet, thanks. Very original and not just weird random shit. I like it, more of this please.
This is the best video you’ve done Joel
One of the most polished and well performed weekly shorts I’ve ever seen 🤣
I think this is my favorite short I've seen from you!!
Love this :)
I love getting a notification for a new Joel video and the feeling of trepidation that comes with not knowing whether I'm about to have a wholesome laugh or if I'm just going to be mind-fucked for the rest of the day.
This short is so brilliant... Iaughed so hard.
Something about this Groundhog's Day effect awakens within me a dark pit of existential anxiety, so deep and so earth moving, that it feels I'm slowly being crushed by my own shoulders and collapsing into myself.
Great vid! xoxoxo
Hey! I felt the same way! Like everything is collapsing inward like an exploding star! The anxiety the existential dread the pointlessness of it all.
I give this short film two thumbs up 👍👍
@@NikkiDoesStufff Absolute bestie behavior!! Get ready for a hot existential summer!
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I watched this video like two weeks ago and I still think about the “TONIGHT?!?!?” every single day
Ryan was amazing in this one
This is one of my favorite Joel videos
The second I saw the title I had an idea what this was, but wow, what a twist. Great work Joel!
played this video on loop for a bit, great movie.
This is officially my favorite TH-cam sketch of all time
I just realized this is the Chappelle show of this era
While there is a dark premise in here I really liked the setup. Laughed hard which is nice.
I cannot, in words, describe how much I enjoyed this. Absolutely friggin awesome Joel.
These videos really do hit home with what its like just being HUMAN, every day; even if it does seem to repeat XD
Thanks, Joel & Friends
Wow! This came out absolutely phenomenal!
This is a genuine perfect video, extremely compelling and creative w the narrative. Bloody good work Joel🙌
Holy shit you guys are so great together, I was chuckling through the entire thing! We need to see more of that over the top exasperated energy from Ryan
Ngl this is the best video you've done so far Joel, love it
