Thanks s much for activity fix! This changed everything for me! When Zwifting, I always need to change my bike used to the one i use for indoor cycling, no more! And I often make shorter walks to close out my Apple Fitness rings and I don't want to broadcast them. Normally I just don't import them in Strava but now I can use the Mute feature! Thanks a lot!
Thanks, very useful stuff. The main feature I am still missing is the „auto create a route with that many km“ on the web version and also being able to enter the number of km my self.
I don’t know how it could be done, but some direction indication in heatmaps would be super useful. For example in the same way you mentioned no heat on a busy road, sometimes people only use a road in one direction (like taking a busy road downhill but never uphill). I ran across this recently putting together the heatmap but asking a local friend to confirm. Thanks for the great tips!
Ghosting yourself is something I have used before. But it also happens in other scenarios, for example if you take a ferry. On Wahoo and Apple Watching simply pausing the activity is enough. Strava will just draw a straight line between the last point before and the first point after the pause. So if you really want to clear out a friends home, you ride back to where you paused and resume from there, making it look like you actually paused there. I believe the only thing to see in the data could be your heart rate potentially having gone down (but that’s really hard to see and could for a many other reasons). The only other thing to see can be your total time spent on a segment that indicates you have paused, in case there is one on the path you deviate from and then rejoin while the activity is paused. But again, you could have actually paused legitimately for many other reasons (as it usually happens at different places during the ride), so nobody can tell that was because of being close to your friend’s house.
Exactly I watched a similar video on GCN and they mentioned how transport for london use the Strava commute activities as apparently that’s offered out as open source info. I was thinking of how I could automate the commute flag, this seems to be the answer! Excellent!
I’ve been using this ghosting trick for years, another way I use a lot is to just turn up late and your friends have already left their houses to come out and meet you. 😂
When I had a Microsoft band, you couldn’t ghost yourself, Strava counted all the movement until you hit save. That came in handy a few times though if I forgot to hit restart.
@@gplama big kudos for the ActivityFix. Now after my Zwift ride, I can now go straight to the shower without having to update the map type, add a description, or choose the bike that I use. Amazing 😍😍😍
Super useful tips & tricks Shane - thank you! Ah, I'm setting up ActivityFix right now so I don't have to manually edit every ride to pick the bike I rode. Automation FTW!
In regards to Ghosting Yourself, my friend used to live near the front of an estate at the foot of a descent, so it was always hard to pause the Garmin. But he moved so no longer an issue.
The other option for ghosting is to re-join exactly where you stopped. In that case, it looks like a pause on the ride and raises even less suspicions!
if you switch the GNSS to off on-the-fly (then back to the previosly used GNSS setting, or just making a "Ghost" activity profile with GNSS off and switching between profiles during the ride), your other datas will be recorded (power, distance if speed sensor used, HR, i suppose the varia also working too)
I’ve had Flyover on iOS for about 2 weeks now. Guess I am lucky to be in some sort of test group, that has the feature flag active. One thing that is annoying about not having a share feature; taking a screen video doesn’t allow to perfectly capture the start of the animation without the onscreen controls, because clicking them away is only possible while the animation already runs and the starting fly-in-animation is very quick.
Ghosting look different on Wahoo: when you pause your activity, the map will still show the route you've taken, but the part during the paused state won't be saved into the fit file.
Where is the stop button you refer to on the Garmin 1030+? Maybe I am being slow but there are 3 buttons, start/stop, lap, and on/off/sleep. If I press I press the start stop/ button on mine mid ride its goes straight to the discard/save page and not the live map page shown on the video and equally if I continue riding with the page shown on mine it still continues to show it on Strava?
Strava needs to do some automatic filtering for the “flyover” feature on virtual activities. While some may be “gps duplicates“ of their real-world sources (Zwift Richmond; Rouvy), the ones that aren’t are a mess. 😂
Manual Pause is tricky because one false tap and you lose your ride. Eg you go to buy presents and take the paused head unit in your pocket inside a store. Whops, butt dial, all lost. Thanks Wahoo 😡
What's the scenario there? You want to ride a segment.. but not ride a segment? Or ride it but not have it register? Maybe a stop/start for say 50-100m during a segment will not cause it to match?
The kudos thing is just one big cirlce jerk. Why on earth would I need likes from others or give it? You did your ride, now move on. Do you really need other peoples likes to feel good? I deleted my Strava, but you do you. I know there is more to Strava than likes, but not enough for me to keep using it. BTW, I don't use any social media except Twitter to get news first. I do not like post there either.
The heatmaps is great if you do adventuring for new routes and are still unfamiliar with the location or even meeting new friends you've met up with on a random ride that day after checking the ridden with feature. You'd also know if a road is closed due to either construction or landslides here in Japan if there's no recent activity for days in an active segment, it's never fun turning back when you get there and realize it's closed off.
how can you stand strava? i put on a half an hour ride and get 16 kudos. any meaningful interaction gets lost through the garbage features. needs a filter, it's useless as it is
I've lost count of how many videos this month for Lama but it must be a record. Kudos 👍🏻 and Merry Christmas 🎄
I can spend hours in global heatmaps. Open water swims are fascinating. Merry Christmas!
Wow this channel has been in overdrive lately! Appreciate all the content!
Thanks!
Thank you!! I’ve wanted a way to give kudos to a whole group and had no idea this already existed. That really needs to be a more visible feature.
Shane, this was VERY useful, thank you!
Great work Shane, super nice-to-have infos👌

Thank you for reminding me about the time option on the analysis charts. I was wanting a method to find places where I've stopped.
Thanks Shane, added a Christmas jersey and did my first ride wearing it, today. Merry Christmas and keep up the great Zwift work. It’s great help.
Excellent stuff Shane, thanks for sharing..
Hahaha. This ghosting option is really a 'naughty boys charter' for your secret stop offs en route !!
Hi Shane, great content as always and appreciated. Flyover is up and running.
Wow a few things that are good to know. Thanks for all the great videos this year. Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏻

Arrows on the road showing most popular direction. Bigger bias towards a direction = bigger arrows

Shane you legend! Excellent video. How does Strava not promote this stuff themselves is beyond me. Keep em coming
Cheers!
@@gplamais the fly over gonna add a feature where it shows where you got you’re PR’s and KOM’s?
That'd be a neat addition to spice it up.
@@tony5269 I was thinking it should be similar to TDF stage profile where it shows you elevation, grades, distance etc. a bit more visual
@@mvp_kryptonite that would be wicked pissah cool also

This is a million times better and more useful than the GCN one...
Theirs was motivation to get this one done. It had been on my list to cover ‘ghosting’ for a while.

Interesting. So Strava will draw the straight line gap as shown if it’s not in the FIT.

Leave it on the discard/save page, then hit start again and the ride should resume.

Is there a way to sign up for the festive 500 in zwift as well, or only strava?
It's only a Strava thing. I believe there are organised group rides on Zwift though.
Does having a cadence sensor make a difference on Zwift? Is it worth buying one?
No difference in-game other than having correct cadence.
It was impressive today. Hahahaha. Thank you.
Manual Pause is tricky because one false tap and you lose your ride. Eg you go to buy presents and take the paused head unit in your pocket inside a store. Whops, butt dial, all lost. Thanks Wahoo 😡
Right, I thought the same. Specially on my Garmin watch I already lost some (runs) with auto pause and unintential clicks in the pocket
I was really hoping you had a method for hiding a mid-ride segment after the fact (not just stopping recording 😭)
What's the scenario there? You want to ride a segment.. but not ride a segment? Or ride it but not have it register? Maybe a stop/start for say 50-100m during a segment will not cause it to match?
You also have the cropping tool if needed.
I add privacy zones around all my friends houses and they reciprocate. Stopping and restarting is too easy to forget.
Thoroughly disappointed that you've given this Von lady more kudos than you've given me but anyhow... 🤣🤣🤣
Not sure that ghosting ones self would work very well in the 'old world' where our roads take a turn more often than every 50 miles

You don’t have to make your Strava public. It is a great way to keep track of your rides…
Who really cares about kudos? My life isn’t defined by who cares about my activities.
