    G'day from West Australia Scotty😉
    When dealing with wiring over 43yrs, I have discovered that sometimes walking away for a coffee or a quiet fire truck moment. Is very therapeutic. Patience becomes tatered, and tatered patience is a total no no.
    Distractions absolute no no,
    A total juggling act yeeeeep. Feel your pain, currently trying to achieve having had a fuel fire on my right hand 22 days ago.
    1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns to whole hand.
    Just great for running ones own business. Been hard enough for over 20 something years with a disabled left hand.
    Tatered patience you better believe it.
    Just another challenge, attitude is everything when it comes to doing what you love with cars.
    Chin up buddy you be getting it done😉🙂👍👍

      The temptation to set fire to the workshop was strong

    • @ChristopherHallett
      @ChristopherHallett ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With wiring you have to break it down into little bits and do them one at a time or you'll go insane.
      On (for example) an LS you'd be like "okay I need four ignition wires, four injector leads, the throttle body connector, the water temp sensor, and the crank angle sensor for the driver's side engine loom, so I'll start with the ignition wires, that's eight wires in four pairs, get them trimmed to length, connectors fitted, heatshrunk and sleeved, and labelled."
      Get each part done on its own, double check all your work with a multimeter to be absolutely sure, then bundle them into that half of the engine loom and route and secure it.
      Then you break it down again for the passenger side of the engine loom - the other bank of ignition wires and injector leads, the knock sensors, the oil pressure and temp sender, the manifold pressure sender etc. etc.
      Then you do the "front end" loom - lights, indicators, horn, alternator, starter, a/c compressor etc. etc.
      All that runs back to the firewall connectors and boom, you've done the hardest part of any car build with absolute minimal stress and hassles because you've approached it the same way you would an engine build - looked at as one big job an engine build would be very intimidating, but because you know it's actually hundreds of little steps all done one at a time that you can double-check as you go, it doesn't worry you.
      Drawing up a "loom map" that shows which wires (colour, gauge, and connector pin #) go where that you can constantly refer to during the loom build is also very helpful. You also have an excellent troubleshooting resource in future.

    Scotty, hate to tell you how to suck eggs mate but we've all shared your frustration, and I would personally persevere with that connector (I have not used that one in particular), but just checking the following based on my own (bad) experiences :
    1. Do they required you to crimp the pin/socket AFTER the wire is inserted?
    2. Do you have the pin/socket in the correct half?
    3. Check you are using the right crimping tool - some crimp down on the 'ears' and bend them into the wire like a stapler, others put divots in to the sides of the pin (whilst ensuring it isn't distorted - flattened) - also check that your crimper hasn't bent or otherwise distorted the pin/socket
    4. Use the (supplied) extractor tool when inserting - some connectors require you to do this to avoid damaging the pin/socket
    5. A little bit of silicon/dielectric grease will help you slide it in and won't hurt when it comes to protecting against moisture

    • @STREETMACHINETV
      @STREETMACHINETV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the list and I did check all of those things and even used silicon spray (but not the grease) on the pins. I've talked to several people in the industry since and they all agree that particular type of connector needs to burn in hell.

    Watching you tackle that wiring gave me some nasty flashbacks. Just a tip on that connector... You might have had more success if you plugged all the wires into it first instead of last. When they are all bunched up under tension it becomes a nightmare, whereas when they are loose there is a "better" chance of them staying plugged in.

    • @STREETMACHINETV

You're under the car removing the battery cables and the power feed to the alternator (which, arguably are the hardest things when pulling a motor because it's underneath... something to consider - rather then one plug, do the Holley thing and have sub-looms (oftentimes the reason people go with milspec plugs is you can get a bajillion connections in on) injectors on one plug, sensors on another, coils on yet another - then get delphi or similar plugs for each loom. the biggest benefits are: easier to seal small plugs then large, and if you decide to update to a different kind of coil or different kind of injector - it's pretty easy to pull the on harness and adapt
