This is the first proper drive that Olly takes his Civic Type R EP3 on after having the ECU remapped by Romain at RaceCal. The car now has Skunk2 Drop In Cams with a Solid Fabrications Big Bore Exhaust Manifold and Super Silent Cat Back exhaust system. The power is up from 221bhp to 254bhp and the restrictive Spoon Sports exhaust system has gone, leading to a much smoother power delivery.

well done Olly , its not all about power , but bringing out the best of the K20 and keeping the essence of one of the most beautiful N/A engines ever made. The era of this car and cult engine will never be seen again.
Pretty much nailed it there man! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
@@lllllllllllllllllllll1lll1 and thats the best way to do it!! be safe and enjoy.
Thanks for all these EP3 videos Ollie. They’ve been incredibly helpful and inspiring.
I’m amassing a small pile of shiny things for mine and your insight has been invaluable in their choice.
Ah man! That means so much! I am so glad I have been able to help you make good decisions to save you money and get the best out of your car! Really appreciate you watching the videos!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
She just loves to rev 😍 Roll on some nice weather to really enjoy the car 🌞 Have fun, awesome job 👍
She really does! It’s so effortless now! What a fun summer to come!
Fantastic! Your reaction shows how good it is.
Yeah, it really is great! Looking forward to some fun drives in it! Plenty more driving content to come too!
Smashing video mate, car sounds awesome, enjoy👌👍
Thanks man! Yeah, really happy with it. There will be some more content coming over the next few months that has better audio on the exhaust too
great update and truthfull information on cams
Thanks man! Glad it could help out!
Great video mate always enjoy your content… looking forward to more videos on the S2K especially now that I’ve got one 🤙🏻
Much appreciated man! Congrats on getting an S2000 as well. Got big plans for mine but as I’m sure you are finding out… parts aren’t cheap! Haha
@@OllyRoss Tell me about it I just bought the K&N air intake and a new rocker cover 🤙🏻
Nice one Ollie - fit the right parts in the right order you get the right results
Absolutely! To be fair. If I had already had the exhaust the first time round, I don’t know if I would have done just the cams this time round. Wouldn’t have been worth it for the expense. With the way it has gone, definitely worth doing the cams and exhaust at the same time
Lovely mate 👌🏼 Really nice build. I've just bought a pre facelift EP3. I've had a b16a2 before which was fun but the k20 man so nice. 😅
Thanks man! Welcome to even more good times! Haha!
Great video Olly, cams will be the crown jewel in my EP3 build I think. I want to get the best bolt ons then dial in the handling
Thanks man! That’s pretty much what I have done but I did it the other way round
Lovely stuff, I’m sold
Thanks! Yeah, it’s pretty rad, can’t lie! Haha
Had drag cartels in my k20z3 and man I loved them with the top end power 💪🏻 sounded insane
Nice one! Yeah, these do feel good!
Let’s gooo that’s so sweet romain has smashed that, when I finally get my car done might have to get him to do it cos did dynodaze improve the drivability much or was it just there’s your power and done
Romain has knocked it out of the park! It’s hard to say if the Spoon exhaust was just choking the car or whether there was no real drivability mapped in with the previous map. The car definitely didn’t spend as much time on the dyno at Dynodaze before the power runs.
K2420 EP3 SI owner here with a 3’ you’ll casually get some rubbing, not big of problem as you go but it is indeed normal. Been looking at these cams and the CAT Cams as well, quite convinced by your build that I’ll go with the Skunk2 ones!
Nice one! Appreciate the input! Oh nice! Glad I could help you out!
Nice one🔥💯
Thanks! Appreciate you watching! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Awesome video Olly, the whoosh of air sound that’s a little like a boosted noise is the solid fabs manifold flexi. Mines the same. As for the exhaust catching on the underside occasionally, most 3” systems do this unfortunately. You could upgrade the exhaust hangers to poly flex stiffer ones if you havn’t already? Are you going to do any flyby videos so we can hear the engine and exhaust 🔥
Ok sweet! Glad I’m not hearing things! Haha
Yeah, I am probably going to do the manifold mount and mid mount with different hangers.
Oh, you know that content will be coming in the future!
What's is the benefit of using the v/band system over the standard 3bolt?
LETS GOOOO GREAT VIDEO
Thanks man! Appreciate you watching!
Love it
Thanks! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
You could get a switch for pops and bangs, that’s what I’ve got. Hardly use it tbh but at least it’s there if I want to show off
That is true. Not worried about paying for another dyno session for it though! Haha
Love da vids could u pls do pov drives
Thanks man! I already have 3 POV drives on the channel. There will be one coming in the future with this set up too so stay tuned
Makes me miss my old one, if you could get a dragy it would be really interesting to see what times you get for say 30-70, 50-80mph etc.
Interesting to know. If I can get a hold of one then I can make that into a video for sure. Not something I really want to buy to be fair. If I can find one to borrow then that would be perfect
What a lovely way to take my breakfast 😂😂
Glad I could provide some morning content for you! “Welcome to the VTECfast show” haha
Jealous man! Mine is completely stock but still love it. Could I ask where I can find those push clips that are holding your grill down in the engine bay please? Keep it up 👍
It’s been a long time in the works though! That’s how mine started 6 1/2 years ago. The mounting for the grill are these: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194721618967
If I still had mine that's exactly what setup I would have.
I have had a few people say this. Looks like some of us were on the same page! Haha
My ep3 made 272bhp with the same drop in cams. Was well worth doing
Nice man. It feels good doesn’t it!
Happy Dyno or 5.1 FD?
@@u04pww2 yeah could be happy. oem fd, bigger throttle body and short intake does help make those extra numbers.
@jmimr9i647 what intake you running dude and throttle body
Skunk2 ultra with skunk2 throttle body. ( throttle body is snappy ) stick to oem it is better. Move the battery and go short intake it is much better then tegwia scoop intake
i have a 3 inch solid fab system with does not knock at all just needs adjusting if you have v band clamps by the sounds of it
I need some poly exhaust rubbers too!
Beautiful car man, just picked up my first Honda, an Accord Euro R! Plan to do similar mods when money allows. What ECU have you got? Love the content 👍😎
Thanks man! Oh nice one! Yeah, it will be fully worth it! I have a Hondavert ECU in this car. Appreciate you watching
I have a Solid Fab and don't have any knocking. But I have solid exhaust bushings. I assume that's what stops it swinging about
Yeah, that sounds about right. Mine are the standard rubber ones so I’m probably just going to switch them out for poly ones at some point
Hey Olly! My Solid Fab 3inch catback (on a modified Tegiwa header) hits the car only when i have my cat on it. Without cat it doesn't ratle or hit the car. My problem is that it is very low and scrapes the ground. Stil 2 days til i can drive mine... Long winters :( Greetz from Holland!
Ok cool! Thanks for the info! I probably just need some poly hangers. The low exhaust life is a life we all live! Haha
More driving video mate!
Yeah, got multiple videos to film with driving content now this set up is sorted! Watch this space!
Congrats, you have built a really nice car, mate. Now, don't get me wrong, but I think your standard throttle body is still restricting another 8-10hp. I have a similar setup with stock cams and a 70mm throttle body, and it made 254hp with Romain. So, yeah, it's up to you, but it's a shame to come to this point and lose another 8-10hp.
Also, can you make some videos from outside, I'm curious how it's sounds.
Good Luck!
That sounds like a dyno difference rather than a throttle body gain. I checked with Romain and he confirmed my thoughts that it wouldn’t make any real difference but could diminish the drivability.
Don’t you worry! Plenty of content coming with how this thing sounds
@@OllyRoss from my experience you're actually only leaving about 5whp between an RSX-S and a port matched 72mm. Since you have cams maybe a little more, but it's probably not worth the money.
Have you heard good/bad things about Direnza lowering springs for the EP3? Is it better just to spend more on some Eibach’s? Had good experiences with other parts from Direnza before.
I haven’t used lowering springs before so I don’t know what they are like. My advice would be to “buy once, cry once” with buying parts so go with the Eibachs
I need a solid fab asap 😂 already got the cams but my exhaust is restricting it’s potential 😅
Got to get it done then! Haha! Sounds like your last part of the puzzle
Hi Olly, just a quick question, you said once that you're running 5mm spacers in the front. did you install extended wheel studs to fit them? Cause i kind of want those aswell but i don't know if it's safe with the standard studs. btw sorry it's kind of off topic
Hey man. I haven’t done extended studs. 5mm spacers is a far as I would go without extended studs though
@@OllyRoss thanks yeah i figured the same more than 5mm would be sketchy
When’s you Vtec kicking in with the cams mate? I’ve got a very similar setup to yours with the Skunk2 cams and mines 6200rpm
It is set at 5000rpm. Have a look at the dyno video if you want some more detail 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
If you ever sell it Olly plz let me know😊
I have a DC Sports Exhaust manifold for my solid fab and find that it hangs waaaaaaaaaay low under the car, I've smacked and scrapped the midpipe too many times to count 😂
I have found that the set up now is actually higher than the Spoon system sat under the car
@@OllyRoss I might see about getting the solid fab manifold to go with the exhaust and see how that sits because the DC Sports I have came off a JDM EP3
Launch control? Or is it as violent wheel hop as mine? Cant remember if you have all the engine and gearbox mount or bushes
Still haven’t tried the launch control! I have mount inserts so it’s less wheel hoppy.
buddy get yourself polybush inserts (specially on the trans mount). you will break something wheel hopping. powerflex make em.
I would similar setup in my k20 🙂
It is pretty great so far so I would recommend it
Would of thought with the cam the vtec would cut in louder don't sound like u have vtec at all jus sound like a twin cam
Romain explains it really well in my dyno video. Basically the OEM low cam drops off just before the High cam engages which give you that audible change over. The Skunk2 low cam stays flat at the Rev range just before the change over which makes it harder to hear and feel. Far more linear but you do loose that classic sound
What does the power feel like compared to your S2000?
That is a good question! It is more instant because it picks up quicker than the S2000 due to the long gearing in that car. It feels smoother too.
Anyone from the UK know how much a DC2 Type R costs over there? They go for over $30k here in Australia, it’s kind of ridiculous for a NA car, a EP3 is around $13k-$25k which is more doable, but in saying that Skylines and Evos are in the same price range so you gotta consider value for money and what your really paying for
They are around £15k-£18k with the quick search I did.
Yeah. I can see how it would be a hard choice with everything falling around the same money
@@OllyRoss 5 years ago when I was still in high school I wanted a DC2 Type R and they were only $15k, I thought that was so doable, so I saved up money and didn’t actually went car shopping until late 2022, by then with the money I had, DC2’s were so expensive and my options were Skylines, Evos, even Silvia’s, I ended up with a R32, 180sx, and an Evo 7 in last 2 years but there’s still a empty hole in my heart that I’ve never got to fill with owning a DC2, I decided to settle with a EP3 since that’s the next best thing to a DC2, ashame what all this inflation bull shit is doing to prices
Turns key: "VTEC just kicked in, what what"
Haha! You know it!
My exhaust hits the underfloor and my mechanics ep3 does the same. We have different exhausts
Thanks man! Appreciate you letting me know
@@OllyRoss This might fixed with suitable engine mounts, but not sure if the OEMs would be rigid to hold the extra power or exhaust size...
@@OllyRoss mine did but power flex engine / gearbox mounts sorted. Black. Edition . Also added a flange at join of exhaust/ manifold to Meade a. It more space under car
Why did you remove vtec?🤔
It hasn’t been removed, it is just so smooth now, you don’t feel it change to the high cam
the manufacturer put a torque hole in the power delivery to accentuate Vtec crossover to the detriment of midrange power.
The new cams still are vtec , but the low cam takes advantage delivering good power to match the high cam crossover for a linear power curve. This equates to a faster roll on and drive-able street car.
Are drop in cams different from normal cams?
Yeah man. It’s the cheapest way to upgrade from the standard cams as anything above this you have to do upgraded springs and retainers too.
@@OllyRoss so there just cams then?
@@deansmith6534 well, yeah… they are called “drop in” because you can just “drop” them in the engine without changing anything else.
👍
👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Why is Romain so highly sought after for mapping Honda's? Are there not individuals who live in the UK that are just as capable?
There certainly are others who map cars but I would put Romain in the top 3 of any list. The knowledge he has is from multiple years of mapping everything from Honda’s to GTR’s is incomparable really
There is plenty of good UK mappers but it happens that I also live in the UK 😂
Do you need a jdm arb to run the sf exhaust manifold?
I do believe so. I already had one from my Spoon system which is why I don’t know for sure. I am pretty sure you will though
@@OllyRoss thanks. Really enjoying your recent content!
I run the solid fabrication 4-2-1 manifold on my ep3 and have the OEM anti roll bar. It fits perfectly on this set up and you don’t need the jdm anti roll bar 👍
Oh really?? That is very interesting to know! I may have to test my Progress arb again!
Man all that money for a 25bhp increase, boost it bro and you wont regret it
35hp from my previous map. I reckon I would regret it. Long term I want to have good “expressions” of each engine type. The K20 is an amazing N/A engine that I want to keep N/A.
My plan is to supercharge the S2000 and I will do something else in the future that is turbo charged. I’m not chasing power numbers, just want engaging drivers cars.
@@OllyRoss we all chase that fast accelerating power, next thing you know you be buying a high comp pistons😁
Decel pops and bangs are not cool.... Clean EP3 though
So, because this car no longer has the Decel pops and bangs, it means it's cool and clean? Haha
LOL you had to make sure we know about the .5 bhp.
I’m not here to lie to you! Haha
