  • “Are you shouting slogans or changing lives?” That was the question Labour leader Keir Starmer threw at hecklers during his first in-person conference speech as leader. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
He made a decisive break with his predecessor Jeremy Corbyn, instead praising the achievements of Labour under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
He also promised more money for mental health services and schools.

@@proselytizingorthodoxpente8304 Wow, what a witty and intelligent comment. Taking seriously the disgusting conditions which Palestinians are subject to under Israeli rule doesn't make you a sympathiser of Hezbollah, it simply means you are 1) informed and 2) have a capacity for basic human compassion.
"About 6.8 million Jewish Israelis and 6.8 million Palestinians live today between the Mediterranean Sea and Jordan River, an area encompassing Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), the latter made up of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. Throughout most of this area, Israel is the sole governing power; in the remainder, it exercises primary authority alongside limited Palestinian self-rule. Across these areas and in most aspects of life, Israeli authorities methodically privilege Jewish Israelis and discriminate against Palestinians. Laws, policies, and statements by leading Israeli officials make plain that the objective of maintaining Jewish Israeli control over demographics, political power, and land has long guided government policy. In pursuit of this goal, authorities have dispossessed, confined, forcibly separated, and subjugated Palestinians by virtue of their identity to varying degrees of intensity. In certain areas, as described in this report, *these deprivations are so severe that they amount to the crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution* - Human Rights Watch.

That helping hand , made me a 40% tax payer for most of my working life. I’m shocked to learn that Public Schools have charitable status. The boating lake at Eton, funded by the National Lottery, can be seen from Space !!! Food Banks.....did the people of this country make the sacrifices they did , for this country to end up like this ??? My parents wouldn’t use the words of Angela Rayner , but they would agree with her. @@oliverdesvaux No it’s not. If parents want a private education for their children, with smaller class sizes and excellent facilities, they have to be prepared to pay for it......not expect to be subsidised by the general public and/or those who cannot afford private education.
Regarding Grammar Schools , pretending they were all centres of excellence, is simply not true. I went to the historic grammar school in my town, to study maths, physics and chemistry, at A level, with the best grades at O level from my Secondary Technical School, and found the standard of tuition in Maths and Physics abysmal, although the young Chemistry teacher was excellent. I didn’t need Chemistry and had to neglect it, although I passed. Only 2 out of about 14 , passed physics, but it taught me how to self study which was very valuable at University. Many friends went to the other Grammar school in town to study A level and they did very well. That is why I say Grammar Schools were very varied......perhaps if they’d received better funding instead of state recourses being creamed off for private education, the standards would have been higher. I haven’t even mentioned primary education, or Secondary Modern Schools, were so many of my friends were “abandoned “. I didn’t even mention the 1944 Education Act .
PS. Don’t start getting personal, because your slur about “the politics of envy” , I totally reject. I would also point out that in Sweden , 6.8% of their GDP is spent on education, and in the UK it is 4.1%. This finding speaks volumes.

There was nothing wrong with Corbyns menifesto, it was brexit and thé thé media and whole establishments campaign against him, Corbyns is a decent person with integrity, that towers above 99% of politicians, especially Stamner, Could have gone far if society wasn’t so currupt.
