I like how Doomguy sounds like Guts. But ofc it makes sense. The dude has severe PTSD. You can hear it in his voice. You can hear he’s literally been through hell and back numerous times. Doom I, Doom II, Doom 64 (and the new episode that ties in with Doom 2016), Doom 2016, and now Eternal.
It just feels so satisfying to hear his voice and hear that he is indeed the Doomguy.
I stopped after watching the cutscene, because I want to fight the boss myself and not spoil anything. 😂😂
The only difference is in the latest berserk chapters Guts is finally starting to recover and starts opening up to people while Doomguy has been driven to the point to where there is only a fragment of a person left behind his visor, the rest being hatred, rage and an all encompassing desire to wipe out the beings that brought him so much pain and suffering

It’s the logical conclusion. He sacrificed himself in the end of 64 to save mankind from hell, but he had no intent on dying himself. Even though he’s the motherfucking Doomguy, he’s still a human being. Fighting for your life in literal hell against endless hordes of barbaric abominations for god only knows how long, either his body or mind had to give. At this point, he’s probably _more_ sane than he was when the Sentinels picked him up.

I love how this game ties in the first two Doom games along with the severely underrated Doom 64 into the Doom 2016/Eternal Lore. Earlier on in the campaign when you first meet the Marauder, he states the line, "You were never one of us. You were nothing but a usurper. A false idol," which basically confirms that the Doom Slayer was never born of Sentinel blood and was merely a mortal human before turning in the Slayer. In this flashback cut scene it confirms that Doomguy from the first two Doom games was actually the Doom Slayer all along. If you align the timeline it makes so much more sense now.
Doom 1 has you start off as an unnamed marine who, only armed with a pistol and basic space marine armor, takes on the forces of Hell after they had invaded the Phobos Waste Site. He goes through the hordes of Hellspawn before going into Hell itself and fighting off a Tyrant Cyberdemon and the Spider Mastermind. In Doom 2 it shows that this marine returns back to Earth to find that it had been overrun by the forces of Hell and once again armed with a double barreled shotgun and the BFG 9000 fights off the forces of Hell coming across new Demons and fighting multiple Tyrants before finally closing the gateway to Hell.
But all is not done in the lore and later on during the events of Doom 64 the demons mysteriously return stronger than ever back on the Phobos base and the marine being the only experience demon killer is redeployed with the help of an army of marines to stop the forces of hell from reaching Earth. Just like the first game however, any form of back up is killed by the demons and the marine is left alone once again with only the demons and himself. He fights his way through the hordes before making his way to the Motherdemon and killing her with the Unmayker. He is about to seal the gates of Hell, but decided to seal himself in the other world to stop any demon from ever stepping foot in our dimension again. The marine goes on years fighting off demons soon running out of ammunition for his guns and having to resort to killing them with his hands. This constant brutality sends the marine mad and increases his lust to kill demons.
Somehow the marine makes his way to the outer walls of the Sentinel home world and is taken in by the Night Sentinels. The Maykers review him and seeing that he still had a lot of fight left in him decide to throw him into the Arenas were he had to fight with his bare hands off other warriors with the marine being the last man standing. This impresses the Maykers and Priests who take in the marine as one of their own and form him into the Doom Slayer. Now armed with weapons and armor he is assigned the role as leader of the Night Sentinels. He marches into Hell fighting off hordes of demons, soon being recognized as the best demon killer around.
This leads to the events of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal. Like I said at the beginning I really love the amount of fan service ID Software has put into this new game and how it ties in the other games before. Doom Eternal might turn out to be the best Doom game out of them all.
I wonder what Earth (DOOM, DOOM II, DOOM 64) he was in because this Earth (DOOM 2016, DOOM Eternal) has just been invaded. Probably a different Earth.
MrDosonhai Good point and now that Eternal has confirmed there are different timelines and a multiverse the theory that it is a different Earth makes much more sense.
@@memesouls8653 It would have to be a different timeline completely i think. In 2016 they mention that your character was found in a thousands of years old casket in hell. And it also lists the year as 2100-something so thousands of years old would put the date you were sealed in the BC era. So either you are an argent slayer from prehistory, or you're not from the same timeline.
alex belke Eternal takes place during 2151 and yes it does state that the Slayer is in a very ancient casket. Probably hundreds if not thousands of years old. There are two explanations for this. 1 the Slayer had traveled from his earth to hell then to Sentinel Prime then was taken back to earth but this earth was very different from his and was probably much younger. His earth was probably already in 2100s while this earth was probably in the stone ages. Another explanation is that the Slayer only spent a few years with the Night Sentinels before being trapped in the coffin before being reawakened only a few years later. This could be possible as the casket he was trapped in was cursed casket meaning that this thing could have been many of numbers of years old. But hey I could be wrong on either one.
alex belke Also another explanation is that in the Doom universe it takes place in the same universe as the Wolfenstein universe with Doomguy being the grandson of BJ Blazkowitz which the devs have already slightly confirmed to be the case. In this universe earth has already been very advance and the 1960s already saw Mechs and super soldiers giving rise. This could explain how by the 1990s when Doom 1 probably took place people were already on mars. It also fills in the huge time gap in between the first two games and 2016 for the Slayer during his time as a Sentinel Night.
At this point, it’s safe to say that Doomguy/Doom Slayer is a sci-fi Guts

Now this- this is what DOOM gets right that precious few other series do. When your cast of characters is small, you need to craft some iconic monsters to “become” characters that help support the stable. The Gladiator, the Hunter, the Marauder; these guys are all demons that have their own personality to them; they’re welcome additions alongside the ol’ Revenants, Cacodemons, Lost Souls, Arch-viles and more. But not the Cyberdemon. Cyberdemon’s his own beast.
It's really similar to the first concept of First Quake game but combine it with Doom's lore

Still don't understand why anyone wants to skip the cutscenes. It's ridiculous that most people don't actually care for the lore/story of Doom but call themselves harcore fans of the series. The Doomslayer has a voice mute or not it's his story PERIOD.

I think the scene where Doomslayer gets the flashback of the arena should have been like the time he killed the first Priest or even like any flashback from 2016 , anyone agree?
No this scene is set up to be more like a plot twist than anything. Plus it would come out of left field since 2016 didn't mention the hell priests a lot.

I think it’s a way to convey how the Slayer it’s getting clearer visions of his past rather than just erratic and chaotic flashbacks.

@Arick A4 You can't remove the unbearable yapping of Khan and Priests and that stuff is beyond bad. They went straight into the worst clichés they could fing, no stops. This is not story, it's just list of clichés that somebody commited into a audio visual medium. Badly. Borderlands 3 also had story and it objectively made the game worse because of how bad it was. This is the same thing.
@Arick A4 They made the story focus and it was a mistake, because the game is worse for that. All characters are bad, DooMguy is cringe personified and the game cannot be played without having all that showed down your throat. So yeah. And it could have been ractified by simly saying "This is cringe, lets cut it out and leave the game just as a game!"
@Arick A4 Yes making long cutscenes with absolutelly horrible story clichés IS making the story focus of the game. One of multiple foci of the game. And no ignoring the BS is not the same as not having the BS in first place - it still rips you out of the game, because you can't enjoy it as a whole thing. Not to mention that a major part of the game stylization is in the same vein of cringe. Every second demon make sily face when killed by glory kill, easter eggs are so prevelent that you have to actively avoid them and fountains af neon colored stuff that pours out of enemies is not only ugly, but also integral part of the game. It feels really bad. This is not Duke, it is not Serious Sam, they should have kept the style of the game down to earth and avoid needless jokes and cringe. They nailed it in 2016, and they went straight to Borderlands style parady in Eternal.

The Doom Choir mixes perfectly in this fight and soundtrack. This is definitely one I will be rocking out to when the OST is up.

The second part of this fight, when he's without his shield is officially the HARDEST FREAKING BOSS I've ever faced in a game... I've failed at beating him 2 days in a row now. Giving up for the time being lol.
Nick Wright I don’t like boss fights especially not this one, this boss is just so random and reminds me of a JRPG.
The first stage your better off using your blood punch to counter, depending on your set up the second stage is all about the super shotty max level to recoup all that armor, it doesn't go away, then slo mo him which burns him longer and you don't have to wait for the green eye shit to stagger. but if you do catch it, you can trigger the glory hit with a shotty blast, then glory hit him, then blood punch... its over.... i was so stubborn not to use sentinel armor cause i died a few times... Rune that speeds you up after glory killing enemies is key because you can simply strafe dodge while walking if people don't have their dashes down...sometimes he leads you, sometimes he doesn't depending on where you are on the first mace throw. Minigun shield max level is good to take a hit as well so you can falter him a a lot.

@@KevBoy3D I thought about my comment after writing it, it was right after i beat that pain in the ass that i watched the vid.... i left a like, but in the back of my head i was like "did i sound critical of the video?" Any tone was coming from a "us vs the gladiator" type of mentality.... just to clear it up. I was just looking at shit i tried and kept seeing that damn sentinel armor offer popping up, smashing "checkpoint" like no way run it! lol.... just to clear up any misinterpretation brother. Just tips for the public i found worked a bit.
The gladiator should be a demon in battle mode. Maybe have him in his second phase variation

I find it annoying that they explain away the Boss's mechanics. Can't you leave it to the player to find out? Worst case they die a couple of times, that's part of gaming.

@tem leader yeah Since DooM Eternal got to Fortnite level with these, anything else is better. Well maybe except Borderlands 3, that thing is still slightly worse than DooM Eternal story wise. It won't be after they make sequel to Eternal.
