I'm loving this cartoonish gloved hand pointer. It's becoming a mascot, because every time it shows up to show a serious technical detail it makes me want to laugh, it gives a fun tone to the episode.
A Tip from a master welder who hates clunky welding gloves. buy flame retardant work gloves. I use nice ones with kevlar on the mesh. really safe and they are really tight in hands so you can have more precision and mobility. Loving the Lego like aspect of the suspension, just don't forget to put some safety wires on all those treaded parts since suspension vibrates a lot. That Fuelcell looks really nice, it ended up perfect. Congrats.
@@ferkle1980 I use gloves from a canadian brand called Superior Glove. they are kinda expensive but they last a lot, I use mostly the dexterity line with kevlar and nitrile tips. this brand makes kevlar gloves for everything, even working with power lines. but if you can find work gloves with kevlar in their mesh at amazon or anything like that, don't forget to buy welding sleeves since work gloves do not protect the arm and that is very important specially as a beginner, don't want no third degree burn in your forearm from a booger popping off into your arm.
@@lucasdamask appreciate you dude. that's great to know. I use sleeves and a smock already it's just getting some dexterity back into my hands that I'm looking for, feels like i have little control over the torch with the bulky gauntlets (great for when I have the pizza oven going though!)
@@ferkle1980 I know, was so used to the long "cowboy style" leather welding gloves. This fire resistant work gloves were a game changer, worked on a boat dock and got that tip from a dude over there. the Kevlar ones I know are resistant to 800 degrees celsius so pretty safe for welding, and the nitrate tips give a good grip.
Mike, I genuinely love the transparency about mistakes or hiccups in the build. It makes the series seem much more relatable to my personal endeavors with what I am building. Although frustrating at times the mistakes turn into great stories and wins later!
I was first on site for a crush accident last year, an overhead crane had lowered a heavy cabin on top of a mechanic and the remote was nowhere to be found. Soon located the remote, but I had to pry it out from under the poor guy, as he inadvertently had activated the lowering. Inflicting pain to a fellow man to save his life is a really weird situation to be in, I must say. Luckily it ended with some soft tissue damage, a crushed pelvic bone and a hip prostetic. Evan´s situation really struck a chord with me and of course I will donate.
Thank you for taking the time to address safety in your video. I have notice that a lot of youtube builders neglect to have common safety practices. Most common infractions I see are grinders without guards while cutting with a thin disc, and lack of safety glasses. Again thanks for addressing safety and great content!
You've come back so hard with this build since your break a few weeks back. Keep on at it and it'll be finished in no time, it's all coming together so well right now!
Maybe a cool idea- make the steel under the aluminum on the strap color matched with the car, just pop through a little bit. Could give it that OEM+ pop
Glad you mentioned about having rubber between the ali tank and the steel brackets. Bi-metal corrosion can be a bitch! Good point on protection during welding. You are generating an unbelievable amount of UV light and it can do you a lot of damage. Tropical sunshine isn't even in the same ballpark.
Mate, I was sceptical at the beginning and thought you will mess up a beautiful Ferrari. Now as I see how much knowledge you have and how well you are executing your job, I am really happy for that I can be part of this build. (Even via youtube) Thank you for this amazing show. :)
I'm finding this series absolutely fascinating. Thanks. Not sure there's such a thing as gratification for a tools fetish via TH-cam but I'm loving seeing all these fantastic tools used. I'd love to see something about your personal journey to getting all these fantastic skills but also the really deep knowledge and understanding such as we've seen in the suspension episodes. Don't be modest and share some of it please..
Be careful out there, Evan is a local to me and I support his page as well, I will give what I can. Pretty sure having this happen a second time will be rough on his mental side too. This is good shyt Mike, you’re a great member of the automotive community. Love the work on the Ferrari, your progress was muddled but looks to be rolling along now.
Sean @ Narita makes nothing but Top Shelf items, and his coverage of Time Attack and Japanese Tuning culture is fantastic… Also loving the use of a “Finger” pointer while filming… Great OG reference to the old Hot Version / Option videos. 🤙🏼😎
A reminder to everyone working under a car on jackstands... If you possibly can, slide one or two wheels under there as backup. And if you're doing work where you can leave the wheels on (like an oil change) consider ramps instead.
Hope he recovers. Last weekend my Civic fell off the axle stands as I crawled out from under the car, hurt my ribs, ankle and chest but was quick to react when I saw it slip. I was very lucky. 2 of the 4 stands I used collapsed…. A nice wake up call. Be safe guys.
The video production, along with the music just continue to get better. What is there not to love about this channel?! Content is of course king, but good Lawd how it’s presented makes such a difference.
Finally caught up! Binged the whole series, no regrets 😎 Love this build, love the way you're presenting it, and stoked to follow along in real time now.
Nic's car is pretty great. It'll be exciting when you can finally drive your Ferrari around again. Maybe do some tandem driving with Nic on a road course.
That opening shot of the tank and that killer bar going across the tank, I knew I was gonna dig this episode. Sorry to hear about your friend and his accident, it's always a situation, that as car guys, we all fear. Hope his health improves. Introducing Nick by his car is the way I normally remember people..." yeah, you know, Curtis with the turbo Miata.." at 13:00 I noticed no vertical brace, It probably doesn't need it, but it looks like it should be there.
Great episode man. Awesome work quality. Can't agree more with your decision of re doing the control arms instead of modifyng other things to make them fit. You can't fix something thats right to get away from fixing something that is wrong. keep up the good work!!!
This is a really good episode, and the answers at the end were really interesting. How different are those deburring disks from regular "clean and strip discs"?
Those Landin Williams credits gave me seeeeeerious Forza Motorsport throwback vibes! Team Blackjack used to be the bizz! Also: your excitement is contagious!! Keep up the awesome awesome work!!
Sorry to hear about your friend. I bagged twice this summer on doing the work replacing the struts on my daily pig, er, driver because of a wall of fear about knocking the car off the jack stands and crushing myself. Best wishes for your friends recovery.
13:40 Those are called ROLOC pads bro. I've been using those for a couple decades now. They are a VERY useful tool to have on hand. The auto factories here in Detroit keep these everywhere.

I know you will install this cell many times before the car is driving, but those brace tubes dont appear to be fully welded, it will be much easier to weld with the cell out.
Thought about putting a plastic or rubber bushing between the fuel cell corner tabs and cell? I'd think a little cushion would be good and prevent galvanic connection.
So sorry to hear about Evan. I started my career as a motor mechanic in the UK many years ago and saw a few accidents. Thankfully in the UK, we have our National Health Service which doesn't cost us a penny. Hopefully, my donation will help. Great content and keep it up. Keith
You pay for your Healthcare in the form of taxes. Where do you think the money comes from? Luckily I pay for my own health insurance I don’t need the Government’s subpar healthcare.
I dont intend to come off as rude. But i noticed when you were sick when you said arm you sounded alot like Kermit the frog, and when you said apart in this episode. Really loving this whole build ive been binge watching it for a couple days now. Your skills are amazing and i hope to use alot of what ive learned watching so far in my own projects. Cant wait to see it finished.
Man I’m so sorry about your friend. It sucks that he even needs a gofundme. As an American no longer living there, I couldn’t imagine being that hurt and it financially ruining me. Fuck the US healthcare system, wish you all the best.
it's difficult to have a good view on video but I would try to putt more Amp. to weld. smaller filler is better to have control of the fusion bath. I will add some arc fading at the end ;-) great job from the begening BTW! cheers from Belgium!
I don't mind explaining, and I enjoy sharing my thoughts and reasoning behind things. It may help someone else learn, or it might highlight a critical flaw in my own thinking, which someone can correct. It's a win/win.
Since you are answering questions I thought I might ask one....... I found your channel when this build series started and what I don’t understand is with all the cad work you are doing why not just buy a plasma jet table? They can be found for under 2,000$ and will bring your work to the next level, and save you a shit ton on time cutting everything out by hand? Plus with everything you do I think it would be a great investment
Are you planning on having some isolation material between the tank and the brackets/strap to keep from wear on the cell from vibration? It also might cut down on pump vibration/noise into the cabin with the cell right up against the firewall.
I'm loving this cartoonish gloved hand pointer. It's becoming a mascot, because every time it shows up to show a serious technical detail it makes me want to laugh, it gives a fun tone to the episode.

Reminds me of the old Best Motoring days

That pointy finger cracks me up every time. Such a beautiful juxtaposition to the serious business of chopping up a clean Ferrari.

Fabrication mistakes suck, but if you've never made a fab mistake it's because you've never really fabricated anything from scratch. Party on, Mike!
Mounting solution for the cell looks great! Large backing plates/washers for the upper fiberglass side mounts likely a good idea.
Would love to see what these keyboard mechanics are working on to be telling YOU what to do lol. Beautiful work every time!
