    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agree. That is a MAJOR obstacle to ownership. I drove one shortly after they came out and, obviously, performance sells the car. But, when looking at it objectively...everything from build quality to interior shortcomings, to awkward controls, to visibility, to bad ergonomics, to service, etc., etc., I decided not to buy. I think that the solution to both the charging and range anxiety issues might be to buy the vehicle but lease battery access and simply exchange them automatically and in minutes when depleted.

    • @SWTrailsAndWheels
      @SWTrailsAndWheels 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      10 to 20 minutes is a more common charge time with the recent updates. A recent 1200 mile road trip felt about the same as driving on gasoline.

    I think you guys are my favorite car reviewers on TH-cam. I wanted to share that the primary volume knob for the stereo is the left scroll wheel on the steering wheel. The volume icon on the bottom right of the screen is mostly for the passenger. Pushing in the left scroll wheel gives you the menu of things to display on the left side, but as you mentioned the routing map covers whatever is there when you use the navigation. You also get proximity alerts there if you are getting close to something if the car has the 12 sensors. My car is a 2015 when they were optional, but a lot of optional things become standard with Tesla after a few months or a year.
    I think Tesla makes the best electric cars so far, but I have only owned a Fiat 500e and the Model S. I got them both as lease returns when they were three years old. So far getting a off lease car seems to be the way to go with EV's because you save so much.
    If you buy a used Tesla from Tesla, they put a new 4 year/ 50,000 mile warranty if it has less than 50k miles. Over 50k, they put a 2 year warranty up to 100k miles. Also when you need service, Tesla will send a service person to your house, office, motel, where ever you are as long as the car doesn't need to go in the shop. I had them replace an airbag and some power steering bolts and then he fixed some window trim he noticed. You already know about the supercharging network and route planning which make long road trips effortless.

    Just a side note - make sure you are very careful when closing the frunk as it can bend and deform if you close it too hard or unevenly. I believe the correct procedure is to slowly close the frunk, use two hands (palms or all fingers) on either side of the Tesla "T," and slowly add pressure until the latch clicks in place.

    These guys can look at the gauge behind the steering wheel and NOT take eyes of the road.....
    Very cool indeed. The only people who complain about not having gauge cluster in model 3 are people who never driven it. It is in the same line of sight, slightly to the right of steering, which is actually easier to see and steering never obstructs anything.

    The good and bad of Tesla:
    Great electric car. If you get into a collision accident, expect for the repair to be on average 3 months in the shop. The parts are hard to come by and confusing because they often change. For example, if you need a new driver door you later find out the original parts don’t fit because they changed the design so you have to order additional parts then there is all the electronics and calibration. Bottom line, they’re great cars to drive, just don’t wreck it.

      @@joythought Watch Rich rebuilds, it's still bad. The only thing that they changed is that they accept salvaged cars where before such cars were dead to them and second, they only sell some parts. They've got long way to go.

    I have a 2016 P90D USA demonstrator model purchased in September of 2016 and I absolutely love it! It does have the new front end and a heated steering wheel, but doesn't have the range of a new one. I can only plan on about 200 miles on a full charge, by which time it's down to only about 35 miles remaining.

    I just bought the LR AWD model 3 and it’s an amazing car. Sold a 2017 BMW M2 and 2017 Audi TTS. Both drivers cars, but electric just has a special feel. It’s nice to see both of you being car enthusiasts, really praise Tesla. Tesla really is the leader in electric cars. Can’t go wrong with owning one. Good review!

    Fun review. It's amazing how advanced this 3 year old Model S is compared to 2019 EVs from other brands. Many of the things you noticed like the laggy satellite maps are way better in the current Model S, and range has improved too.
    I sure hope you guys can review a Model 3, ideally a Performance version. Now that's a car that deserves a full send around cliché corner.

    great review gents. have 2018 model s and driven loaners and model 3. please check out the latest model S it's much better ride quality and handling and addresses almost everything you mentioned. model 3 is cool too but everyone and their mom has it nowadays - i'd say better value but not as luxurious and fast.

    just one thing to note if the screen is lagging that means its on MCU 1, you can get it retrofitted with MCU2 and it fixes the lag issues and probably the browser issues too.
