      Air traffic control is arguably harder than the title of the President. Air traffic controlling is such a stressful and mentally demanding job that requires the highest human level of focus that a lot of towers don't allow ATCs to work without a break any longer than 1 hour.

    I just got accepted to take my air traffic skills assessment test. I’m 27 years old so hopefully I have a long career in ATC 👍🏻

      How did you start this process? 26.

    • @tiernonstevens2389
      @tiernonstevens2389 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nomnomburrito27 so once a year they open up applications for air traffic control. Normally it’s in the spring time. Each and every position offered by the FAA can be found on their website. Further education past highschool is not required to apply for air traffic control. When they open the application process you must submit a resume in the format they are looking for (pretty standard but they have a general outline within the application submission link). Then you have to wait about 3-4 months before you hear anything back. They will send you an email on whether you’ve been accepted or denied to move on the the next step which is know as the air traffic skills assessment test with a number attached that you will call to schedule your assessment test. The assessment test is graded on a scale of 1-4, 4 being the best. Getting a 3 or 4 on the test is a good sign that you will be accepted to the next level of the process, but only getting a 1 will disqualify you. As long as your score is good enough you are then sent to a doctor for a physical, a drug test, and a psych evaluation. As long as that goes well it is my understanding that you will be enrolled into their schooling program in Oklahoma City. Schooling is paid for, and while you are there you are given a salary of $46,500/yr. Once you graduate and find placement within an airport, your salary will start at $90,000+ a year. It is important to note that if this is a career you want to get into you must apply before you are 30, they do not accept applicants past 30 years old. You will also likely only get one shot per year to take the air traffic skills assessment test. If it’s something that interest you, you are generally good at math and thinking on the fly in high pressure situations then I would say absolutely go for it! Good luck with your journey!

      @@CreamCobblerFiend I just completed the Air Traffic Skills Assessment test today. I know I did extremely well in the number differential, variables, variables within equations, and aircraft orientation sections. Really felt like I could have done better in the collision avoidance section, anything over 5 or 6 bubbles seemed to be a bit much for me as I had a hand full of collisions at that level. Then the reading comprehension I really couldn’t tell if I did great or bad, with it being timed you don’t really have a whole lot of time to double check your answers with the above text so you just kind of have to read carefully and go with your gut. I’m hoping I did well enough to get a referral (hoping for at least a 3 or 4 score). These next 3 to 4 weeks are going to be hell while I wait for an answer on my results. This is honestly my dream job I’m just hoping I did well enough to succeed to the next level.
      I wish you nothing but the best in your future career hopefully I can rub shoulders with you one day

      @@tiernonstevens2389 Great job! It seems like very few people leave the ATSA feeling confident about themselves, even when they do well. I definitely feel like the exam is trying to overwhelm you and test how you work under pressure just as much as it's about measuring your aptitude. During my exam I think I was mediocre on the aircraft orientation portion but felt good about everything else, even though I had to guess the last few answers in the reading section because of time. I still ended up placing Well Qualified so hopefully you do at least as well. 3-4 weeks is a little optimistic though from what Ive heard. Mine took 5 and even that was considered fast. Even once you have the results you still have to wait to see IF you get a TOL and then for the security clearance, and then months and months of waiting for every other little thing... My training begins roughly a year after I took the ATSA. Still totally worth it. Best of luck though! My name is Charlie if we ever bump into each other in the future.

    🤔🤔 umm this is absolutely not the reason why the FAA doesn’t hire older than 30. I’m sure the FAA would be glad to train 32 or 33yr olds however, since controllers are forced to retire at age 56 and something about being a federal employee requiring you to have 25yrs of service is why they can’t hire ppl age 31 and older. 31+25=56
