I have recently been accepted to take the AT-SA and I am incredibly excited to pursue this career. I've always had an interest in how aviation works and I would love a fulfilling career that helps keep the skies safe. This channel has a ton of great videos that I have enjoyed watching. Thank you!
Being able to slow down to speed up. So many trainees think they have to talk faster and "speed up" when busy. I would always tell a trainee to take and deep breath and slow down when they started to get busy. Having a plan A along with a plan B and C as a backup.
I can do the five things plus these other two, and finish by the end of the day, but do you want them done fast, or done accurately so they won’t have to be redone? You can’t have both.
Like most careers, ATC Controllers that learn all they can about their work are the most comfortable when working and when you can achieve that, you don't just have a great income, you have a great career. It's not for everyone and there is no shame in learning that after you have begun but people who enjoy their work are good at it and vice versa.
Also… one can expect hours of boredom (when they’re a seasoned veteran) followed by their hair on fire! However, the adrenaline rush can’t be beat after working a busy session. I got to work the busiest hour LAX has ever, or will ever have. Between we two arrival controllers, we put down 135 arrivals on 4 runways; of those, I worked about 90. It was probably the most fun I had as a controller.
Attitude separates a controller from a good controller. Fortunately, there are many good controllers out there. Highly recommend this profession. On most days, you help to keep aviation safe. Once or twice in a career, you might help to save lives.
These values are also found in the ATSEP part of the ANSPs. Aviation safety (OPS and OPS support) must have the same ideologies & qualities ! Nice video!
Hang in there! I've almost washed out of everywhere I've ever worked after staring at a level 5 VFR tower and now I'm at a lvl 12 center. I broke records on Skill enhancement. My trainers got me straightened out and now I'm 13 years in, no deals or negative performance write ups, ever. Training is the worst part of the career, focus on getting good sleep, thinking about your mistakes and eating well. You will make it!
Great stuff. I am in AVOPS (ramp patrol) for an international airport in the PNW, and have great respect for our ATC controllers, (as well as our local ramp tower controllers!).
I missed my calling to be a Controller, I think I would have really liked the job. Alas, I focused on being a pilot, earned an instrument rating and got close to my commercial. I ended-up being a programmer, LOL. Not many paths to becoming a controller back then, though. Now there are university programs. I'd do it now if they'd have me.
That last statement is true for those of us in the restaurant industry as well. You can multitask the entire floor, and balance a tray full of food and drinks like a cat on a fence, but if your attitude and service mind are lacking, you won’t be a good server. Being a good server is defined by how people feel from the moment they enter to the moment they leave. Not by how well you can balance a tray. :) Also, I’m a voice actor, and want to know what company they hired this narrator from.
I am the one who wants to be an air traffic controller . It is so nice ,especially the last words makes me impressed . I 'll keep that in mind. Thank you
A big thanks from Switzerland ❤️🇨🇭😊 I am currently boosting all of what I can get from knowledge about ATC because I am planning to enroll myself to a formation in 2024 and become one of them. All of your videos really help you can't imagine !
My contribution for you for today: The terribly loud music at the very beginning makes people quickly turn their volume down. This of course causes them to miss the first part of your actual video: Potential Air Traffic Controllers, or those who advise them, such as your self, would reasonably be expected to realise this.
I've tried a bit playing ATCpro and it was so stressful, but especially when the voice recognition only got what I said like 30% of the time xD Like telling a plane to climb to a specific safe level or trying to do a hand-off but the pilots just respond with "Say again" :D edit: I saw a good example of a bad example for communicating here: th-cam.com/video/picf7sPEhi8/w-d-xo.html
Are you an ATC? Or did you just learned the air English in your free time? If yes, from where? As someone how only learned the NATO Alphabet, I can't understand all what they were saying in your example. (Bad quality and the combo of fast speaking) But I must say that I am quite young and need to wait 3 more long years to finish the school. So I can learn more stuff until I am ,,cleared for takeoff" 😊
@@obi-wlankenobi I'm not a controller, I just learned a bunch from various TH-cam videos, ATCLive and people simulating it in games like DCS, I also read up on various stuff online, I also have quite some trouble hearing half of what they say, for example if they have strong french accents or whatever I think if I wanted to get better I'd look at videos like VASAviation's since they are subtitled, or try to listen to other ones, or as I mentioned - ATCLive

Biggest thing to remember is don’t be over analytical. Make a decision, if it’s wrong just fix it.
I'll take that on board, Lance, provided it's regarded as acceptable in that profession.
An underrated channel made for an underrated yet very fulfilling job in the world!

Depending on the facility, you’ll need plans up to plan F! Been there, done that, have the bypass scar to prove it 😁
I applied for this position and currently preparing to take the ATC test. It sounds pretty hard but I don't want to let that scare me from trying.
