The Eurovision Song Contest 2011 was the 56th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Düsseldorf, Germany, following the country's victory at the 2010 contest with the song "Satellite" by Lena. It was the third time Germany had hosted the contest (and the first following the German reunification), having previously done so in 1957 and 1983 (both in then West Germany). Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcasters Arbeitsgemeinschaft Rundfunkanstalten Deutschland (ARD) and Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), the contest was held at the Esprit Arena and consisted of two semi-finals on 10 and 12 May, and the grand final on 14 May 2011. The three live shows were presented by Anke Engelke, Judith Rakers and Stefan Raab.
Forty-three countries participated in the contest, equalling the record of the 2008 edition. Four countries returned to the contest this year; Austria returned after their last participation in 2007, Hungary returned after their last participation in 2009, San Marino returned after their very first participation in 2008. Italy also returned to the contest after their last participation fourteen years earlier, in 1997.
The winner was Azerbaijan with the song "Running Scared" performed by Ell & Nikki and written by Stefan Örn, Sandra Bjurman and Iain James Farquharson. This was Azerbaijan's first victory in the contest, after only 4 years of participation, and the first victory for one of the South Caucasus countries. It was also the first male-female duo to win the contest since 1963. Italy, Sweden, Ukraine and Denmark rounded out the top five. Apart from Italy, the only other "Big Five" country to make the top 10 were Germany, finishing tenth. However, the United Kingdom followed closely behind, finishing eleventh. This was the first time since the juries were reintroduced alongside the televoting in 2009 that the winner did not place first in the jury voting; Italy was the jury winner, while Azerbaijan was the televote winner. Georgia, finishing ninth, equalled their best result from 2010.
The broadcast of the grand final won the Rose d'Or award for Best Live Event.

Yeah, the only huge miss here is Germany. “Taken By A Stranger” is quite possibly the best “title defense” song that didn’t successfully defend the title ever produced. Top 5 for me, even if it doesn’t beat out a few of the ones up there. Aside from that, we’re pretty much on the same page. A couple songs move up and down a couple places, but that’s about it.
My winner is Sweden🎉
I love your videos! Don't always agree with you, but this time we were mostly on the same page! Loved France, just rediscovered Slovenia and can't say enough good things about it. Was really glad you appreciated Austria's comeback :-)
Slovenia 2011 was my #1 - everything about it is soooooooo good I am obsessed ❤
Me too
Germany, Georgia, Moldova that low is criminal lol
At least Ireland got the top 10 finish it deserved
You have interesting taste, Moldova was just a mess🤕
@@shrexxxx I think it’s a very similar vibe to say, Russia 2020. It’s silly in nature. I still enjoy the performance beyond the comedic factor but I think the combo is what makes it fun and unique!
Agree with Georgia and Germany, but Moldova? OK, many songs above them on the list were worse, but I don't think, they would have deserved a high place either. Georgia should have won, as their singer has the strongest voice in the entire contest, although Maya wasn't bad either. And France sent without a doubt the best male voice.
I'm sorry i hated georgia's song.
I m very happy that you put Nadine on the 4. place. She was much underrated 2011. Warmhearted regards from Austria

Omg I'm glad that you will make 2011, the year of glory. It's my second favourite year, right after 2014.
But, in 2011 my winner is Greece. Loukas and Stereo Mike had magical live performance.
And... can you please make 2014 next?
I like your 2011 song (unpopular opinion), but for me Sweden was the winner.

I have to say the quality this year wasn't the best a lot of misses but Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Azerbaijan were my faves. The UK being so low is questionable but everyone's tastes are vast
Slovenia's best result last 10 years🤩
My points:
12: 🇸🇪: amazing. Showstopper. Great vocals, memorable staging, good dancing and great studio track.
10: 🇮🇪: Jedward were amazing. Their vocals were not amazing but everything else made up for it, but you do a expect a perfect vocal from them. Their styling is on point too.
8: 🇩🇰: yes the lyrics are kinda cliche but the song is actually great. Loved the band’s chemistry and the staging was also memorable.
7: 🇬🇧: this song is so underrated In your top. Amazing vocals from all the band, great staging and great progression.
6: 🇩🇪: this is better than Satellite in my opinion. It is such a difference in sounds and I adore it. The staging was great too.
5: 🇫🇷: such a dramatic song that I dig. It was seriously underrated in 2011. He is also so handsome too. Also love that he sings opera in French and mixed together it makes the song unforgettable.
4: 🇬🇪: such a showstopper. Great progression and a unique genre. The costume was actually not that bad and the staging and styling of the band was on point. My fave Georgian entry since 2010 and it will probably stay that way if they cannot send something just as amazing as this.
3: 🇧🇦: love the lyrics especially in the first verse. The staging is also great. A nice little bop that can be listened to on repeat loads of times.
2: 🇨🇾: everything in this song is memorable. The staging was out of this world and the vocals were amazing. My most robbed song of 2011.
1: 🇫🇮: cute guy singing about a relevant issue with a guitar. The lyrics are also sorta funny.
My points (2 years late but who cares!)
12: Georgia
10: Slovenia
8: Hungary
7: Austria
6: Belarus
5: Albania
4: Lithuania
3: Sweden
2: Ukraine
1: Serbia
Armenia's song and also their PERFORMACE really cracked me up
Armenia was my winner in 2014, runner - up in 2016, 3rd in 2007 (RIP), 4th in 2010, 7th in 2018 and 10th in 2015. But Boom boom is so awful.
Same
I think if you say "Blue can't sing", you're liable to getting shot in the UK, but your view is your view...
7:19 this one is in my top 10. Vocals are stunning. Song just needed better staging. 😃
Love Hungary
Wow dude you are really a big fan of Eurovision 😂😂

Only because it came 22nd. It's a boring, generic, and shouty song.
Italy and Romania were my favourites this year. Nice video, as always!
2011: Most Underrated Eurovision edition
Oh, 2011 was a weak year for me, if Germany wouldn't have hosted it, it would one forgotten year. Nice to see 2 of my absolute hate entries in your Top 10 again. :D But definitely interesting opinions, a smart little throwback to the Düsseldorf year.
One of the best eurovision years for me
Same. My second favourite year after 2014.
Hands up if you completely forgot that Dana International and Lena both had more than one entry?
Glad to see Jedward in the top 10. They're completely hyper but 2 of the most genuine friendly people I've ever met (humblebrag).
My personal top 10 from Croatia:
1. Germany 🇩🇪( one of my favourite esc songs, and in my opinion this is best entry from Germany! So amazing and unique, deserved top 5 at least!)
2. Sweden 🇸🇪 ( Amazing and catchy song and also that staging is WOW!)
3. Ireland 🇮🇪( This Boys are so cute, the song is catchy and I love it!)
4. Bosnia & Herzegowina 🇧🇦 ( Cute song by amazing singer!)
5. Bulgaria 🇧🇬( Way too underrated! Deserved top 10 at least!)
6. Estonia 🇪🇪( Cute and catchy song)
7. Denmark 🇩🇰( very Nice song)
8. Slovenia 🇸🇮( Amazing song by an amazing singer!)
9. Greece 🇬🇷( Really good song)
10. Finland 🇫🇮 ( Cute song)
Thanks for putting my country (and one my favorites) 1st, less for putting Cyprus and Germany in the bottom, not to mention below Portugal
My top 10:
1) Slovenia - Everything was so PERFECT! Her voice, outfit, choreo, the song, the jazzy vibes... Absolutely the winner!
2) Italy - I really love that song, so sweet and his voice and piano skills are absolutely amazing!
3) Greece - An iconic entry, the chorus just hits sooo right!
4) Georgia - I love this kind of alter-rock entries, and the singer slayed those vocals!
5) Moldova - I mean LEGENDS!
6) Hungary - Kati was a great choice to represent us, but she should have had a very different choreo and staging, and I so wish she had sang im Hungarian! I am originally Hungarian and I think those lyrics are much better fitted with the melody of the song!
7) Finland - He is adorable! Such a cozy song!
8) Bosnia & Herczegovina - I mean, who can not love this beautiful song and that charming gentleman?
9) Ireland - They are ICONS!
10) Bulgaria - Poli truly deserved to qualify!
Also, I overall think that 2011 was a pretty weak year. And I have to confess I had a crush on Alexei Vorobjov, I was literally 11 though and my whole family laughed at me. Today I think the whole entry is pure cringe except the intro, and I'm ashamed I ever liked it 😂
i think this is the best 2011 ranking i've ever seen! and i absolutely agree with slovenia's entry being perfect, it's my winner too :)
1. 🇩🇪 Germany: she's amazing here
2. 🇮🇹 Italy: natural high quality music
3. 🇧🇦 Bosnia & Herzegovina: it makes me fall in love
4. 🇮🇪 Ireland: song is freaking catchy, but I dislike live vocal
5. 🇸🇪 Sweden: the same with Ireland
6. 🇬🇪 Georgia: very dark and alternative
7. 🇸🇮 Slovenia: amazing voice and cold ballad, it's great
8. 🇲🇩 Moldova: ska-punk vibes with irony, very unusual
9. 🇷🇸 Serbia: she did it, I really feel retro nostalgia, else it's good song
10. 🇨🇾 Cyprus: beautiful ethnic ballad, why no one loves it
11. 🇧🇬 Bulgaria: sounds like anime theme and I so like it
12. 🇬🇷 Greece: interesting concept, never listened something like this
13. 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan: they're cute, performance is pretty
14. 🇦🇹 Austria: powerful voice
15. 🇸🇲 San Marino: much better than Adrenalina for me, it's melancholic
16. 🇮🇸 Iceland: funny song with sad meaning
17. 🇫🇮 Finland: he's nice
18. 🇩🇰 Denmark: too cheesy, I wanted more energy from them, but this is good song
19. 🇧🇪 Belgium: not for song contest, but it's interesting
20. 🇪🇪 Estonia: looks like students' performance, it's pretty and even catchy, but not level of contest. Big luck that they were in Final
21. 🇱🇹 Lithuania: I like her voice, song is beautiful, but for ESC it's boring
22. 🇨🇭 Switzerland: light song for good mood
23. 🇳🇴 Norway: they tried to repeat Shakira's Waka Waka, mmm okay, it's not bad
24. 🇹🇷 Turkey: actually good song, but live performance without energy
25. 🇭🇺 Hungary: overhyped usual not bad pop song
26. 🇺🇦 Ukraine: good vocal, interesting performance, but song is mediocre, one of most overrated song in ESC
27. 🇷🇺 Russia: too much flex too low music, it's messy
28. 🇨🇵 France: the same with Lithuania
29. 🇬🇧 United Kingdom: it's simply not interesting, staging is empty, song is usual, overrated just for the name
30. 🇱🇻 Latvia: I loved to listen it in headphones, but it's not for live performances
31. 🇦🇱 Albania: too agressive, only loud noise
32. 🇪🇸 Spain: funny but not original
33. 🇳🇱 Netherlands: cute song, not more
34. 🇷🇴 Romania: it's like Serbia, but I don't feel nostalgia here, and there is too easy melody
35. 🇸🇰 Slovakia: simple pop, empty staging, but sisters are ok
36. 🇲🇰 North Macedonia: firstly it's strange but original (reminds me Malta'08), secondly it sounded bad
37. 🇮🇱 Israel: what for it all, everything is bad
38. 🇵🇱 Poland: awful vocal, song is good, but not for contest
39. 🇲🇹 Malta: many years I hated it, but now I see that he's really tried to make show, he has not bad vocal and tried to be like Michael Jackson
40. 🇭🇷 Croatia: 100% focuses 0% good music
41. 🇵🇹 Portugal: something that only Portugueses can understand
42. 🇦🇲 Armenia: trashy, like bad soundtrack for Indian movie
43. 🇧🇾 Belarus: no, they didn't love Belarus...
Cyprus has the most underrated Eurovision entry of all time imo I’ve never seen so much apathy and/or hate towards a masterpiece like with this one. 🥲❤️🇨🇾

I think there was a shift towards English language songs in this whole decade, and a lot of songs sung in non- English languages didn't get their deserved placements. However, thanks to the Internet, they are being discovered and loved now.

This was a year when I was there in the arena, and for me yet again (after 2001) proof that big stadiums are not for Eurovision. Overall not a particularly strong year either; I must say there are very few songs here that I really like.
My top 5:
1. Bosnia & Herzegovina: I just love the music and the vibe, and Dino is so charismatic. Fantastic entry.
2. Ireland: amazing energy, and this song would still be hip now.
3. France: I thought his singing sounded a bit forced live, but the song is just wow.
4. Norway: I know it's cheesy but it just always makes me smile so hard.
5. Serbia: this is just so charming and fun.
I find it very hard to say anything about the rest. I remember liking Austria, but tbh I don't remember anything about the song except that she sang really well.
Azerbaijan was pretty flawless except for her vocal and probably the most beige winner ever.
Italy was fine but I don't really like jazz.
Sweden was overproduced to the point of arrogance.
Why Ukraine came 4th is beyond me. And Denmark was enjoyable even though it was a rip-off of... about everything.
Regarding the Netherlands: they're not bad musicians but they had no clue about Eurovision and this performance... everyone was just walking around aimlessly on stage without connecting to the audience or the camera. I'm Dutch and I can still get mad about this entry and the way they and the broadcaster handled this.
I love these ranked videos. People's tastes are so wildly different, and so they should be. The ones I listen to most from this year are Bulgaria and Bosnia.
I loved Azerbaijan, Greece and Sweden. And of course my country's own entry was very funny 😂 1273 ❤️

Your last is my winner👁👄👁
You placed the UK at 43!? Damnnnn
Interesting ranking 😊 I guess my taste is quite different:
43: I would rank blue somewhere in the middle. Yes, it’s not their best song, but it’s still pretty catchy. I just think the singing was a bit overshadowed by the music. They shouldn’t have had the backing music louder than the voices (I can)
41: I liked this entry from lena so much more than her winning song the year before. It sounded much more mature for me and gave me a bit of a Bond vibe. Would have been Top 10 or t least Top 15 for me (taken by a stranger)
40: for you it isn’t special, for me it is 😅 also she and the melody are making it pretty joyful in my opinion. (Haba haba)
37: one of the worst songs of that year in my opinion, especially the boom boom shaka shaka part. It’s just annoying. (Boom boom)
31: would have put this (I’m still alive) a bit higher too. I like he harmonies mostly, and the melody itself is very radio friendly. It’s easy to listen to it and I would never turn it off
29: I enjoyed in love for a while very much at first listening, and still like it until today. It has a nice flow, I love her voice and she gave a lovely performance
28: somewhere at the bottom of my list, In my opinion it’s boring and sounds quite meaningless. Not a banger (ding dong)
26: on of the better spanish entries in my opinion, it’s like a typical summer bop, I would rank it higher (que me quiten lo bailao)
25: yes, sometimes over the top, but still artistically great. I would have put it somewhere around 10th place I guess (madness of love)
18: very underrated indeed. I even had this in my Top 5! (Na inat). I’m glad she came back
17: gave me nothing. Sounded like a bad ripoff of Kalinka at some point 😅 (rusinka)
14: don’t like the melody as much as you, but her voice and performance are pretty good, still would have ranked it a bit lower because of the melody (feel the passion)
13: yes it’s no banger, but sooo lovely and soothing, he has such a beautiful voice. I instantly loved this and wished it had qualified for the final 🥰
11: I didn’t find this that awesome. The refrain is a bit boring in my opinion and her vocals sometimes over the Top. Would have ranked much lower for me, maybe somewhere in the twenties… (no one)
10: I don’t think you overrated it. Yes, it’s not winning material, but in my opinion it was a bit underrated. It’s lovely and meaningful. Beautiful melody, the staging suited the song, and he seems like a charming and likable guy 😉 it is a (guilty) pleasure for me until today (da da dam)
8: overrated in my opinion. Boring song. (New tomorrow)
7: I remember that I liked it that year quite a lot, but it grew out on me. I still think the song itself is very lovely. But seeing it again these days I would never think it would have been Top 5 or even won. It just gives me zero chemistry between the two singers… (running scared)
5. yes, guilty pleasure again. He just gives so much joy to the performance. And the song is catchy as hell 😅 (change)
4: didn’t give me much emotion, she sung it to technical for me… and the song itself is only ok for me too, no Top 5 material in my ranking (th secret is love)
3: yes!!! Finally someone who likes this one as much as I do. I find them adorable, the performance was very joyful and emotional too if you knew the back story, the guys are sooo charming and the song was quite unique that year. My personal winner of 2011. (coming home)
2: deeply underrated too, this song is so beautiful, it’s like a movie theme somehow. She has a great voice and uses it so well. I can feel the emotion (c‘est ma vie)
1: great song, deserved Top 5 (or at least top 10). Opera can easily sound to heavy, but his voice gives it a very warm touch, which makes it so enjoyable to listen to. It just irritates me sometimes, that he kind of looks like Matze Knop with long hair 🤣 (sognu)
The songs I didn’t mention: I more or less agree with you on those, just don’t have more to say than you already did 😅
You skipped the 6th entry
@@KHJvsAL I skipped more than number 6, but that was intended. I just didn’t have to say something to every choice in the ranking 😉🤷♀️
Edit: the numbers in my list are not my ranking, they just refer to the place in the ranking of the video 😉
Love from France 🇫🇷❤
I think I know what you're Number 1 for 2018 is, and if I am right, 100% agree.
Azerbaijan has sent masterpieces and won with this. Wtf?
Not sure about this edition being 'strong', but the final was definitely weak for me. I think Albania, Bulgaria, Norway and San Marino should have qualify. Also, I agree with you on that, there are several performances with vocals/backings problems...
One word to resume this year : underwhelming.
Lena should have won with her very very out of the world song that year tho rather than 2010. I mean her song in 2010 was ok it's good but not good enough to become the winner. Personally, i'd rather Azerbaijan to win in 2010 and Germany in 2011. That would make more sense
I agree with you, 2010 Turkey or Azerbaijan, 2011 Germany or Sweden should have won
Slovakia really did try their best in 2011. Although their song was just a meh song the melody was so boring and stop with that drumming. I think you know why the Twiins didn't qualify already. Despite that, this still their best placement in the semifinal since the returning in 2009. The other 3 years (2009 2010 and 2012) mostly they ended second last to last in the semifinal. Such a shame they had quit this
Love Spain , Estonia and Azerbaijan
Thanks
Moldova was my personal winner in 2005 and Even I hate So Lucky.
Also Denmark 2011 kinda sounds like Ireland 2006
My favourite Jedward ,Eric saade, ell and Nikki ,a friend in London .
Thank god you put Homens da luta in a low place. Even if it's not 43rd.
How tf they won Festival da Canção???
And placed above Poland IN OFFICIAL RESULTS IN THE FIRST SEMIFINAL...
@@22nd_Place_Vasil He placed Poland 33rd and he placed Portugal 35th. So Poland got a higher place than Portugal on his ranking.

@@22nd_Place_Vasil OH
Without jokes, actually they are my winners. Grew on me a lot 😍
Again, like unpopular opinions but, sadly, you overuse words "dumb", "idiotic", "cringe" and etc. I had a better opinion about you
I like his opinions because his words slowly go from "cringe, dumb, idiotic, overrated " to "awesome, great, nice, underrated"
7:47 isn't her name "Senhit" ?
9:54 my favorite. Deserved to make it to the final
Hungary and Bosnia have beautiful number
I love your taste ❤😂 We don't agree with anyhing lol. My winner is Germany 🇩🇪
О привет
Same winner as mine 😁
I’m starting to think that you’re producing these kind of videos to troll people. 😂
I'd rather be hated for my honesty than being loved for my dishonesty.
@@SchlagerLucas Great choice 😁, it's also cool to see the unpopular opinion of a person
@@SchlagerLucas 👍
@@SchlagerLucas Lucas, I don't think that your videos are trolling. I always like them even though I don't agree with some songs that are in my top 10 and they are for you in the bottom of the list. I respect your opinions because your tops by country and by placing are great and informative. Looking forward to 2009 top :)
you know if you're bottom 10 in a SL ranking then you've got a good song
0:11 Is This Joke That Is My Top 43 Too
My Top 10 of 2011 #1 Ireland, #2 Belarus, #3 Bulgaria, #4 Serbia, #5 United Kingdom, #6 Norway, #7 Slovenia, #8 Albania, #9 Poland, #10 Latvia... my bottom 2 = Azerbaijan, I have no idea how that pile of shit won, and Italy. Denmark and Ukraine shouldn't have qualified either. 2011 was the year most of my favourites failed to qualify (or finished low) and I hated the top 5.
DENMARK SHOULDN'T QUALIFIED?! WTF THAT'S NO TASTE. DENMARK DESERVED THE 5TH.
@@22nd_Place_Vasil I didn't like Denmark's song. That doesn't mean I don't have taste, I just have different taste to the majority. No need to be insulting and no need to shout in capitals.
Thank you ❤️🇧🇬
Most of my top 10 aren’t in your top 26 lol
My top 3
Germany
Ireland
Sweden
BTW, I'm 🇬🇷
Me after watching the video: Is this some kind of joke
Your country was my winner
Almost same top 3 as mine!
for me azerbaijan deserved to win in 2011
My winner of 2011: 2:58 ❤
Icons should've won Eurovision
@@metreoix3758 yes
It's so great to see what others think. For me ( from the very first song) I was love/like it then yeah that was bad ,it kept alternating lol. Top 13 👍. France ( not my favourite but probably in my top 10) would have been much more worthy a winner. My top songs in no particular order were serbia, Slovenia, Romania, uk,Ireland, Iceland, Estonia, Moldova, France, Spain, Georgia x
I'm from Croatia but I excepted us to be at the bottom of your top 🤣🤣🤣
😂
😂😂 I feel that moment when someone puts awful song high and it's your own country 😂😂
It's my 43rd😂
Georgia is my number 1😡
Georgia is my number 13, france is my number 1
The video just starts bad for me GB #3, Estonia #2. But have to admit 2011 was a really weak year. But my personal winner #bulgaria is my 7 of all time
