I missed out on making a Legend of Zelda Lost Bits video in 2020, but here we are back again with another video for the Zelda series! With it being the 35th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda, and with Skyward Sword getting an HD re-release on the Nintendo Switch, what better time than now to finally cover this game? Skyward Sword has a few cool bits of unused content from unused graphics to some unseen secrets!

I've never heard anyone pronounce Karane's name that way before. It's not japanese, it's a play on the word "crane" since most people in Skyloft are named after birds. It's pronounced "kah-RAYN."
Yeah, they really should've just spelled it "Krane" in English. Her name wasn't even spelled Ka-ra-ne in Japan, it was Ku-ra-ne, so ten years later I'm still baffled why they did that. Glad to see I'm not the only one.
damn now i feel dumb for pronouncing her name "kah-rah-NAY"
i guess i just thought it would be pronounced with japanese sounds lol

4:57 - WRONG! You CAN Z-Target bugs but you have to have your big net out first, THEN ask Fi with the down D-Pad.
I know you can z-target bugs, but I don't know if you can with deku hornets.

Unused content is interesting
There are 3 out of bounds heart pieces, we're one heart piece short
To find more unused content, use noclip to talk to NPCs behind locked doors that are impossible to talk to, and bring Timeshift Stones to places in Lanayru desert that normally cannot be converted to the past.
1:38 Now I'm just imagining the imprisoned with that texture. It would make it a bit more interesting
8:40 That chest location matches up similarly to the chest in the sealed temple itself. I wonder if that chest would be closed if the chest in the sealed grounds was never opened? The bird statue and doors also line up with the locations inside.

What the hell, this was uploaded 15 minutes after the Zero Punctuation Skyward Sword video! The Escapist had the video locked up in some kind of a basement for who knows how many years, and suddenly two big channels upload a video about the same Wii game!

The OOB bird statues and the chest and doors are probably there for map marker reasons. All of these things are always displayed by icons on the map no matter where you are in lanayru desert/ inside or outside the sealed temple. You said the oob chest in thr sealed grounds was always open, but im willing to bet if you looked at it before getting the revitalizing potion inside the temple it would be closed.
I wonder if the chest in Eldin’s room (the fire dragon) is used in some way to give the player the song they learn there, considering whenever you learn a new song it shows link getting the harp.
I'm just imagining the Imprisoned but covered by paperslips that all day "sample texture"

When you reach temple of time before Lanayru Mining Facility you can use the Beetle and see that behind the rocks blocking the entrance you can see Gate of Time in its sleeping state (giant block)

This was the first Zelda game I ever played and I love it
The story is one of my favourites in any zelda game, but unfortunately due to my disability I couldn't enjoy it fully bc of the controls. :(

1:25 I was first thinking about the Surface Birds from the same game, that give you 2 different types of feathers. But now i realise that Groose and his gang threw eggs during the Wing Ceremony minigame.
i think the chest outside karane's room is for the piece of heart in zelda's wardrobe. the chest outside the lumpy pumpkin is for the piece of heart on the chandelier. the small chest outside the sealed temple is for the small chest inside the temple (iirc, contains a heart potion?). if i had to guess, the chest in eldin's room is holding a harp because you learn the song in there(?). i've no clue why they doubled all these up, though...
I think dummy water was probably used for the waking water in the skyloft silent realm before waking water had a texture

I'd be pretty interested in hearing you discuss the beta content and cut designs from Yo-Kai Watch 1, the development and localization process of that game was pretty interesting

So basically Nintendo, disheartened by not being able to have a huge map with the Temple of Time and whatnot, came up with the idea of having one large world map that procedurally loads as you move around. Just one more thing _Breath of the Wild_ took from this game and made it better. I suppose it's more like the Great Sea from _Wind Waker,_ except it has a lot more to do as you run around.
I wonder if that unused area of Lanaury Desert is also in the Switch version

You can Z target bugs in Skyward Sword. Not sure if you can with the hornets or not. But in order for you to Z-Target them, you have to have the bug net equipped and pulled out. ;)
EDIT: Ok checked (at least with Skyward Sword HD), you can't target the hornets even with the bug net out. You can target small birds and all the other bugs though. It just requires that you have the bug net out and works at a shorter distance then normal Z-targeting)
I think a good amount of the out of bounds objects may serve some purpose for being there. Like for the chest inside the baazar probably is there so you could see it on the maps, but I can't be for sure.

Skyward sword is one of my favorite Zelda games, and one of my favorite Wii games. So this was a cool video

FYI, a lot of Skyloft’s residents are named after birds. Karane’s name is inspired by real world cranes.
I know this is almost two years late but there's a severe lack of people saying this so

You did your research about those "unused" objects around the sealed temple area, but there is some clarification I think should be done. Those objects technically aren't unused; when you're in the sealed grounds, sealed temple, or the behind the temple areas, all the objects in the other two are also loaded, which is what those are. However, the game unloads all objects when you go out of bounds on the sealed grounds/sealed temple map, which is why they disappear before you can investigate. That said, the objects aren't properly loaded or something, which is why the doors and going to the sky with the bird statues lead to weird places; speedrunners tried to use the one that leads to Hylia's Realm, since that is basically the end of the game.
Although I don't know for sure here, unlike the sealed grounds, the same could be true for the Lanayru Desert/Temple of Time bird statues; the low LOD versions of the areas were made earlier and weren't changed to reflect some changes that may have been made to the final version, like that rock wall. Also, "this thing" is another object normally present in a small cave in the Lanayru Desert area, which is loaded like the bird statues.

You can get the Deku Hornet dialogue, got it yesterday when i asked Fi for rumors (i think) just keep spamming rumors til you get it
im pretty sure you can z target deku hornets while holding the bug net, similar to how all the other bugs function

Isn’t the chest around 7:23 there to be loaded in for the heart piece obtainable in the cafe? I remember one being there, just can’t remember how to get it.
You get it by knocking down the chandelier. These chests were probably going to be used instead of how the heart pieces are now found.
The unused karane animation looks traumatized. I guess that makes sense, I’d be pretty horrified if I was blasted with an endless supply of air.

Hey tetrabit, there’s a game called absolver that may have a lot of cut content because there’s an unused weapon type and a fight style that can be used via glitch but not obtainable. For all I know there could be other secrets players including me haven’t seen either.
